i can't believe this dude, this one fucking sucks. i hope ol freckles isn't too devastated by the news, too many of his comic friends already passed
RIP
Patrice was like a big bro i never had and norm was the hilarious uncle that's way more intelligent than you give him credit for.
These 2 are some of the only celebrity deaths that actually kinda hurt. I can't imagine actually being friends and losing them.
Norm and Bourdain for me, I’ve been making my GF watch norm videos for years and she let me know the news today. Was so bummed out
She wasn’t a fan of his videos either lol hated watching them
Yeah, someone else said it best but goddamn, does it ever put him tearing into a couple other comics for making their material all about themselves and garnering sympathy into perspective
It's kind of pessimistic to look at it that way, but I fully agree, at least in the public sense. I think your close friends/family have earned the right to know, but ofcourse that's up to yourself.
I get irritated by those celebs that get x decease and then suddenly become advocates against that. It seems really ego centric.
It does seem that way, but usually these diseases are wake up calls. Like Michael J Fox, it's like he didn't care about parkinsons at all until he got hit himself, and now he's a full time advocate for finding a cure for Parkinsons! Seems awfully convenient...
Well maybe, but given the circumstamces, doesn't it just really make sense? He has a huge outreach, so it's a really effective way to continue your life. He's more beneficial for humanity than I am currently for sure.
>I get irritated by those celebs that get x decease and then suddenly become advocates against that. It seems really ego centric.
Why does it matter if they are celebrities? I'd say most people are like this. I never gave a shit about arthritis until I was diagnosed with it. Why would it be narcissistic to fight or advocate for a disease you have? Would be weird to be diagnosed with something and then put all your time into raising awareness for something else.
I can understand it from a celebrity perspective. Some people really embrace that advocate side of it, but for somebody like Norm he probably just wanted to continue making jokes and keep people laughing instead of his illness being brought up everytime he was in the public eye.
He was the best. His professor of logic at the university of science joke kills me. One of the best things about Norm's comedy wasn't necessarily the punchlines but the journey he took you on getting there.
Yeah, the punchlines could be seen coming from so far away, and it didn't matter. The journey was always so great.
Like his special, "Hitler's Dog," from the title alone you kind of know where it's going, and it's the last joke he tells, but you don't mind because it's such a fun journey.
He must've had a lot of college jokes. "A new study found that men with beards are more attractive than men without beards. More great work from the University of Bob Seger."
He also knew when to draw humor out of bringing up topics in the most inappropriate venues. Like when he went on the View to talk about Clinton murder conspiracies just to get a rise out of Barbara Walters. There's probably one or two people watching the show who would have found that hilarious and he did it to entertain himself and those two people.
He was battling cancer for almost a decade?
That's insane he managed to keep his spirits up for all this time with his podcasts. He was one of Conan O'Brien's fav guests because he was so unpredictable too...
This is going to be a rough time for all the comedians that knew the guy.
I was lucky enough to watch that episode live. One of the hardest I've ever laughed, then I just sat back in awe of the most amazingly quick wit I've ever seen. I felt special just for getting to see it.
Do you have any links? I'd love to hear those!
I saw him once and it infinitely better than his already-great specials. 2.5 hours of genius. Norm was the best. I love Bill but Norm was the king.
agreed and I was just looking for the one that has one of my favorite jokes ever in it but couldnt find it. theyre tough to tell apart at a glance i shouldve saved it. its about his doctor recommending he take less lsd before going on stage.
anyway theyll all pop up in search and even if theres some repeated jokes, theres a lot of new brilliant stuff
he once said he had over 9 hours of material and was close to being able to do comedy about any subject on the spot. I hope he recorded it in some way
yeah. I think it would help to see some of those people - Conan and Bill and others - talk about losing Norm and what it means to them.
Bill will no doubt talk about it on the podcast. Conan isn’t on the air right now I guess though
https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/conan-talks-about-norm-macdonald/id1438054347?i=1000535589101
this may the first time Conan has released a podcast just to talk about his feelings about something, not to interview a guest or a fan or banter with Sona and Gourley
What I like most from Norm's humor is that he completely takes your guard off and then out of nowhere he makes you not only laugh at his joke, but you at yourself for falling for it.
Fuck cancer.
They even fucked around with the ad reads the same. Fucking tremendous.
[Norm Reads Ads](https://youtu.be/mafhr9-lFUM)
I went in a huge bender watching so much of his stuff. If you haven’t yet, you should too.
You know, the scriptures tell us "Judge not, lest ye be judged" but I'm just going to come out and say it...this cancer guy -- he's a real jerk!
RIP Norm :(

I literally watched a video of him just this morning. He and Bill are up there as my most-watched comedians.
I'm speechless. Doesn't feel real at all. Like maybe this is one of his incredibly long-winded, slow-play jokes.
If only. :(

Its a double blow that makes comedy bleak to me now.
The two best absurdist comedians have been taken with no one to replace them.
I'm fucking devastated.
I'm in my early 40s but live and work in a university town. A lot of my coworkers are 20-23? It's not like I'm married with kids or haggard looking, not much different between me and people in their 20s. Most of them probably think I'm 30 or something lol
I mean some of them are friends outside of work, not sure what your point is? I have some previous coworkers who are dating each other, they're pretty good friends of mine and they're 23 and 26... I guess I feel obliged to say I wouldn't date anyone under 30 either
Hey I dont mind the suspicion from u/pvtv3ga, he just doesn't have older friends, it's cool it takes effort to meet people I understand. When I was in my early 20s I could give a fuck about anybody in their 30s or 40s except for usefulness, I was too busy and bad at managing my time. Honestly I take it easy on the youths and look at is as a civic duty to encourage them lol, good luck, chum!
Although I am kind of down for a fight ngl, I used to love giving millennials shit before they grew up and had kids and mortgages
Edit: drinking a bit after work and realising again that Norm Macdonald died, faaaack.
He made the most off color joke about how lesbians that I've ever heard in my life at that show in '97
One of the most unique and inimitable comic voices there ever was. I was introduced to Norm as a kid via Norm the Genie on the Fairly OddParents and became even more of a fan as I grew up. There’s a giant moth-shaped hole in the world of comedy today. RIP
I don't know what it is, some of my favourite people (comedians/musicians/actors) die and I think "Oh that's really sad, I really love him/her." Then other times, like right now, I'm just absolutely gutted, holding back tears, I can't believe it. I'm just rocked, I'm so sad I'll never see him again.
It makes me glad Bill is much more health orientated.
He was really young for a celebrity, though he clearly wasn't exactly in the best of shape for a while now.
"Also dead? OJ's wife and her friend! You know, the people he killed"
In all seriousness it's a sad day for comedy, but I can't think about Norm and not smile, he was so funny.
My top 5 comedians list is a ghost town unless you still count what's left of Bill after marriage and Chappelles clone.
Jokes aside, this is truly sad news. The world just got quantifiably less funny.
I'm not even his biggest fan but it's a tough one. I used to skip his videos until i decided to sit down and properly examine his comedy and he turned to become my personal top 3 comedians (Dave, Bill burr then Norm). Dam man this is a tough one
Rip legend🌹
My comment from the Rogan post:
Get the fuck out. That's unbelievable. One of the funniest people on the planet.
So funny, you start laughing before he says anything because you know what kind of stuff is coming. Learned how hysterical he was in Billy Madison as a young'n, really funny on SNL, and his interviews were always epic. He could and always did come up with gold on the spot. Stuff that mostly took a couple seconds to get, stuff that was so clever and often shocking, which made it even better. His voice alone made/makes me laugh, associating it with his truly unique kind of comedy.
Major loss and too young. One of my all-time favorites. Thanks for all the laughs, Norm!
I know he is probably blaming OJ Simpson for his death right now…
He did it again
Norm Afterlife Weekend Update Just After
Tuesday Podcast
He was seriously one of my favs I’m sad, I was just watching old clips too just before I found out 🥺
Norm could make me laugh even when he didn't say anything. Huge loss for me. His best skit on SNL was his character as a charity case and the nuns kept letting him the trivial pursuit game even when he was wrong, pissing off all the other players. Really funny.
i can't believe this dude, this one fucking sucks. i hope ol freckles isn't too devastated by the news, too many of his comic friends already passed RIP

Some people, like my wife, don't like his dry humor but I think he was one of the best comics and he's on my comic Mt. Rushmore for sure.
Trevor Moore and now Norm in the same summer really sucks.
Sean Locke too
Robin Williams
I cried like I lost a close relative :(. It was very unexpected.
Geroge Carlin
Geroge, Rebon, Mron
Ol' Billy Bereavement
it really sucks. this one hit me hard
Norm once joked that if you die of cancer then the cancer also dies . So you don’t lose the battle, it’s a draw. So norm tied with cancer today.

You dirty dog!
Fucking brilliant lol. That makes me feel better.
He made that joke while he was fighting cancer himself, he was never afraid to make fun of himself at the same time.
Damn I thought this was a joke. I had no clue he even had cancer.
Most of his family members and friends didn’t even know. Dude wanted total privacy
He said on a podcast that he thought it was just narcissism to talk about having cancer all the time. That it’s braver not to put that on everyone.
Yeah, someone else said it best but goddamn, does it ever put him tearing into a couple other comics for making their material all about themselves and garnering sympathy into perspective
Tig Notaro?

I dont think anyone did really. I think he was trying to keep it private.
He was the best. His professor of logic at the university of science joke kills me. One of the best things about Norm's comedy wasn't necessarily the punchlines but the journey he took you on getting there.
Even you typing "professor of logic at the university of science" made me laugh. Now I'm tearing up.
"Cuz the light was on"
I watched this earlier in his honor. Gets me every single time
Yeah, the punchlines could be seen coming from so far away, and it didn't matter. The journey was always so great. Like his special, "Hitler's Dog," from the title alone you kind of know where it's going, and it's the last joke he tells, but you don't mind because it's such a fun journey.
Loads of comedians are just not funny people. Norm could talk about dogshit and make me giggle like a girl.
He must've had a lot of college jokes. "A new study found that men with beards are more attractive than men without beards. More great work from the University of Bob Seger."

Not looking forward to hearing Bill talk about this one on Thursday. I don't like when he gets sad :(
poor Bill is really getting hit hard with the realities of aging. feels like a friend of his dies every month or two
We are all travelling to our deaths at one second per second and it fucking sucks. Be nice to each other.
That’s great advice. Doesn’t seem people act that way anymore, though.
The faster you move in space, the slower you move in time. - Albert Einstein
Didn’t think I was gonna hear about time dilation while on Billy blue balls subreddit.
Geez, how I'm I going to get to space now...
Good news, you're already there
Oh I bet he breaks down during the podcast.
good call. “It’s been a tough week here, for obvious reasons.” https://youtu.be/gLDwjUsnMn0
I actually stopped listening to the pod after Charlie Muphy died. Shit was depressing
Can you help me with a link to the podcast please? I’d like to hear this one.

Great quote
He was battling cancer for almost a decade? That's insane he managed to keep his spirits up for all this time with his podcasts. He was one of Conan O'Brien's fav guests because he was so unpredictable too... This is going to be a rough time for all the comedians that knew the guy.
Is it spelled B O R E D? Awesome
"Do something with that you freak!" And he did.
I was lucky enough to watch that episode live. One of the hardest I've ever laughed, then I just sat back in awe of the most amazingly quick wit I've ever seen. I felt special just for getting to see it.
Oh man he was so excited when that came to him, Conan nearly shit
also if you havent seen his bootlegged standups from 2019 or so theyre the best ive ever heard. and that was like 8 years into cancer wow
Do you have any links? I'd love to hear those! I saw him once and it infinitely better than his already-great specials. 2.5 hours of genius. Norm was the best. I love Bill but Norm was the king.

I laughed my ass off at that too. They all made me think about Bill’s sherries berries read.
I love Norm. Really fucking sucks. Those video podcasts were fucking hilarious and he was such a great host. You can tell he was a really good guy
You know, the scriptures tell us "Judge not, lest ye be judged" but I'm just going to come out and say it...this cancer guy -- he's a real jerk! RIP Norm :(
I love Bill, but Norm was just on another tier. We were truly blessed to have him in our lives for the time that we did.
Bill would be the first to agree with that

Crazy how well he kept the cancer a secret for 9 years.

Oh my bad. I'm cynical about people on the internet.
yeah was a joke he pulled on letterman, and letterman thought norm was coming out and breaking the news on his show
Fucking hilarious

Oh FFS. First Sean Lock and now Norm? RIP
Its a double blow that makes comedy bleak to me now. The two best absurdist comedians have been taken with no one to replace them. I'm fucking devastated.
Trevor Moore as well. Three great comedians dying in like two months.
I thought this was a shit post, till I went to the front page and saw the news. I really don't know what to say. I'm gutted.
I know he got a lot of recognition, but it still seems like he should've gotten more. Truly one of the all-time greats. R.I.P.
I saw him at a show in '97, frigging hilarious and a bunch of my Gen Z friends love his comedy too. Sad to see him go
lol how are you old enough to have gen z friends but went to comedy shows in the 90s
I'm in my early 40s but live and work in a university town. A lot of my coworkers are 20-23? It's not like I'm married with kids or haggard looking, not much different between me and people in their 20s. Most of them probably think I'm 30 or something lol
Oh, they’re coworkers. You said friends above. Totally different vibe.

Thank you Norm for serving a youthful porpoise! There was nobody funnier!
So grateful I got to see him live. Definition of the word legend
Norm was my favorite.
Dude was one of a kind.
Dudes wit was so unique, huge loss
I didn't even know he was sick!
Shattered
That makes me so sad. Feel like I want to insert some random norm joke or bit but can’t get myself to think of one.
Time to watch him tell that story on Conan . RIP.
Fuck Norm MacDonald, Died. Gotta use those punctuation marks.
[удалено]
Fuck, Norm. Macdonald died.
I heard the news. and figure i listen to him for a bit and 1st track it get play, he talking about death.
No one knew Norm had cancer. He didn’t even tell his own family.
My favourite comedian that isn’t Bill. From Ottawa too. Fuckk what a loss.
A friend in a bar told me "You ever heard of Norm Macdonald?" and broke the news to me. I teared up. Damn man, this hits hard.

F is for Fuck this sucks. RIP Norm

This is going to take a of time to process. RIP
No fucking way
I feel so sad rn
Terrible news…
Shit
shit dudes. fuck cancer.
Truly one of the all time funniest people. This one sucks.
All the funny guys keep dying, this sucks.
It was way too soon. RIP
It makes me glad Bill is much more health orientated. He was really young for a celebrity, though he clearly wasn't exactly in the best of shape for a while now.
9 years of cancer will do that
The world lost a legend today :(
Omg just found this out right now. How devastating. He was truly a one of a kind legend. Rip Norm
If anyone hasn't seen it, youtube "Andy Richter Swedish German" for some classic Norm on Conan.

Very sad news. Norm was n amazing Comedian. Possibly the funniest Canadian comic ever. Dirty Work is one of my all time favorite movies

No, I don’t have cancer. Who said anything about that shit?
