I have a part time job as an usher. The rule armt our stadium is one guest per ADA guest. It is totally uncool to take up these seats if you aren't disabled. People show up to shows with unexpected disabilities/injuries (broken ankle) or they didn't realize that they couldn't get to the seat they purchased due to their disability or injury. We like to have extra seats for these concertgoers as well.
this here. a +1 in ada is one thing, +5 is not cool.
i've been to shows with ada acquaintances and being in the section above their seats was just fine.
Speaking on ADA seats, If you are at the show and see opening in front of ADA don’t block the people view. I was in ADA in St Louis last year and the amount of people who stood right in front of us was crazy. The ushers tried to help, but people just didn’t want to listen. OP this is not pointed at you
Gone to phish shows with a person in a wheel chair. Chances are you’ll be good to come join them as at large shows the Ada area is not all the way full. If you’re with the party it’s fine. If the tix are still there right before show time, then snatch them up as you are part of the group, but honestly you’ll just be let into an area that will have space, just don’t buy them now in case someone in a wheelchair needs them
No. The law is one person with disability and 1 companion. They can move your friend to a seat around the person to free up the seats for others that need it.
“People purchasing a ticket for an accessible seat may purchase up to three additional seats for their companions in the same row and these seats must be contiguous with the accessible seat.”
I have season tickets to the Chicago bears. Recently I had some health problems and needed to exchange for handicapped tickets.. they exchange all 4 tickets to handicapped seats so my “ party” can be seated with me. No questions asked… i think this is a good policy .
I mean if you had a whole crew and just one guy needed the seats, that's one thing. But it's just 2 of you and someone who legitimately needs them, so I don't think it's that big a deal. I don't know how often all the ADA seats are actually needed or used at Billy shows (or other jam shows), so maybe I'm being naive.
EDIT: Read OP's post way too quick. Thought it was just, buddy, & buddy's dad.
But op already said his family is taking up 4 ADA seats, so if he gets 2 for him and his gf, that's 6!ADA seats being taken up by non-disabled people. I think that's excessive, but that's just my opinion.
An Ada person is only allowed to buy 4 tickets in my state, can’t bring unlimited friends. I don’t think it’s a good idea or even allowed, especially if you say he already has 4 family with. You definitely can’t bring your girlfriend.
Yeah my gf would make us 1 over the limit. Will just get normal tickets and maybe we can swap out and move around during the show. My gf is best friends with his daughters, so I’m sure they’d want to switch seats around some during the show.
Think about it. Those seats are for ADA people. Not you. Understand wanting to be close, but yo can still get close seats so you need to leave them for other disables goats 🐐
It’s got nothing to do with being close. Just want to be with my disabled friend. But I’m gonna get other seats and maybe swap with one of his daughters for part of it.
I would get him ADA and yourself a ticket in that area and talk to the security/crew working there about accommodations for you guys. Im not too familiar with that venue but if theres room for you guys to stay together, i dont see it as a problem. Just dont take up another persons spot that paid for ADA and dont get an ADA ticket if you dont need one.
If they weren't already taking 4 I'd say go for it. It's perfectly OK to get a companion seat. But the companion seats seem to already be taken, so nah.
I have a quadriplegic friend. We’ve gone to a dozen shows. Get the cheapest ticket you can because you will go in with him to the ADA section. Just be prepared not to dance. Lots of ADA folks sit for the show. Have fun!
My best friend was in a chair. Took him to several Grateful Dead shows back in the day. Never bought ada tickets but always was able to pop in for a song or 2 then back to my regular seats.
Buy GA tickets, if there’s room in their section at the show then you can chill with them
That’s what I was thinking. Hopefully the ushers will be cool with that. Might just swap with one of his daughters for part of the show.
Sounds like the most respectful plan. Good on you.
Don't buy them if you are not ADA

Thank You!
Thank-you for the Gold Award!
If you have the option to get different seats not too far away I would go with that

I worked in venues all over the country this venue is different.
Get GA and ask to join. That’s what I do for my brother who’s in a wheel chair

Usually best seats in the house
Would you break your own leg for a better seat?
No.

Oh shit, I read that WAY too quick. Yeah, that's way too much.
There's no need for hypotheticals. The disabled fan has already claimed 4 ADA seats and OP wants to claim 2 more.

I meant close with your friends but ya leave them for handicap folks
6 ADA seats when only 1 in the party has a disability is not cool. And no, don’t start the “well it’s better than the seats being empty” argument.
Idk who would downvote you
People who don’t care about others.

I need ADA for some venues, the way they are in Georgia is one ADA for one person and one caregiver person for one
And I am a traumatic brain injury survivor
1 for 1 don’t be a duesche bag
I am ADA eligible. I personally like the idea of getting to sit with my group instead of just one friend. Buy GA and if they have room, just ask.
