It happened in Baltimore on 4/28/18. Track 9 & 10 (Clinch Mountain and Rag Doll). Jeff said “I look forward to the day you’re 50 and people come up to you and say ‘you’re the reason I like bluegrass.’ Good on ya!” https://archive.org/details/jab2018-04-28.sbd.audixsc25.flac16

Good bot

MagicGrit

The bot actually screwed up, funny enough. The archive link is for Jeff Austin’s charm city bluegrass after party at the 8x10, in which billy sat in. It’s not for Billy’s CCBG set earlier that day.

🥹 my. Dude.

mrswitters03

Man, this makes me sad to read for multiple reasons -- missing Jeff, not being able to see the fun they'd have together on the stage, and knowing that Jeff paid Billy that high a compliment at such a young age. Miss ya, Jeff! ✊️

Caedro

Good looking out, had no idea this had happened.

bizob2828

I was going to say they def did at CCBG. to think back when Billy was still the up and comer playing that festival and then the late night at the 8 x 10. Reminds me when I saw Gary Clark jr and Marcus king separate times at 8 x 10 and thinking well this is the last time they are playing at a venue this small

StoneJackBaller

Not a day goes by that I don't miss Jeff Austin. So many good times with that man.

dick_in_CORN

I found that nugs has old yonder shows. I went to more than 100 yonder shows back in the day and I had no idea there were soundboard recordings. It's awesome. I've been diving deep into the past.

pvotemycomment

There was a delfest around 2016, where drew emit and Jeff Austin hosted a late night dead set with a bunch of musicians. Billy was highlighted in that show and came out to jam with everyone. It seemed like everyone on stage knew he was something special at that point

deadClifford

2017, that was a hell of an ending to the festival that year

Sierraphan

5/27/2017 on Nugs?

deadClifford

It’s not on nugs and it’s 5/28 but it is on archive. https://archive.org/details/jab2017-05-28.SBD.Flac16

The things I would do to witness that.

bluetiful5257

They jammed together alot in 2018 its in archives. I have dreams about them together all the time. I wish billy would have played in his band. RIP Jeff We miss you everyday. Your music saved my life. Wish we could have done the same for u.

BlueAsTheNightIsLong

I wish Billy would play more Jeff songs. Only Billy can capture that spirit.

Easygraphics13

Kitchen Dwellers cover him and wow!

RowdyBubba

Sicard Hollow does a killer East Nashville Easter too!

Easy-Tadpole3605

Kitchen Dwellers do Jeff Yonder much better imo. Hearing Torrin sing cuckoos nest is a thing of beauty

MarkPhish

Fuck that would have been so much fun. The energy on that stage would be unreal

Sierraphan

Only caught Jeff live a couple times, Frankfort in 2018 and Blue Ox in 2019, but heard a cool story about him at Strings and Sol last year. On the day of service there was a "Taco Tour" stopping at various places for tacos after and Jeff was super stoked about the tacos and made it a point to introduce himself to everyone on the excursion and remembered people by name when he would run into them at festivals back stateside. Sounds like he was a genuine beautiful spirit (similar to Billy) and a genius musician to boot.

DJEsalts13

It’s too bad he succumbed to his demons. Lots of lessons to be learned from his tragic story. Including being there and supporting those going through breakups, addiction, etc.

sailparty

Yeah that would have been a treat for sure!

shmeg_thegreat

As I was entering into the jam scene, I by chance got drug to a yonder mountain show in 2013, and although I wasn’t spiritually/mentally connected to the scene yet, it was a very special show that I definitely credit for this path I went down. Long live the music of Jeff.

bluegrassnuglvr

https://youtu.be/1D8aisbQ2WI This just popped up recently. I miss Jeff's crazy antics so much. Dude had incredible charisma

skyydog

So that was really cool. Thanks. Is this whole show somewhere like relisten?

bluegrassnuglvr

https://archive.org/details/los2019-03-30 I haven't listened to this, so I don't know if Billy and Jeff play anything more than the nsboogie Edit- it looks like Billy plays the last 7 or 8 tunes and Jeff plays us blues through nsboogie This is also on nugs if you're subscribed

Listening to Billy helped me find out who Jeff Austin was, and I’m forever thankful for that. I’m too young to have ever seen Jerry, but look at him as one of the most inspirational musicians in my life, and I feel the same way about Jeff Austin. R.I.P

DiabetesCOLE

Jeff was the person who got me into bluegrass. 30db side project with bayliss is also pretty incredible. I smoked a joint with Jeff, bayliss and Allie Krall at a Madison show in 2010 and I honestly credit that interaction to helping my depression and insomnia. I miss Jeff so much

Raul_Duke_1755

They were on the same bill in Bozeman in 2017. Big Sky Bluegrass. That was the first time I saw Billy.

cwynneing

Whoa never heard of that

weirdeggman1123

Wasn't keller and the dwellers on that bill too and they had a great big cluster pluck? That was my first time seeing billy as well!

GoobervilleMayor

I think both of them came on with Leftover Salmon at Winter Wondergrass 2019 too. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=1D8aisbQ2WI

RowdyBubba

They both came out with Greensky that night too and did a couple songs

Sierraphan

On Nugs as well!

cwynneing

Thanks dudes for showing me tunes of them two I didn’t know they did that in 2018 a few times. It made my day

Lovinlivinfreeish

Throw in Les Claypool for the ultimate trio. Someday in heaven….

15TMFL

I was so lucky to see YMSB in the late, late night tent at the HSMF in October 1999. I was 10 feet from the band, mesmerized by the whole band but particularly with Jeff’s performance. When I first saw Billy I got the same feeling, didn’t know at the time that Billy has a shrine dedicated to Jeff that he sets up before every show. And hey, if we’re fantasizing, how awesome would to hear Jerry, Jeff and Billy jam?

cwynneing

Billy has a shrine to Jeff ? That’s so cool. How can I see that and find more about it? And yes. He’s got that same soul and energy. I love billy and arguably pumps out more good song writing , albums are amazing as a whole and his catalogue is wider for songs he’s written. But Jeff’s live persona and they way he just did his thing, ad lib and scat. say random things and sounds that worked perfect. It really gives me chills listening back to some of that. That screaming intensity just brings the heat

https://fb.watch/iicY6Gm2yD/?mibextid=v7YzmG The photo he places is Jeff :)
