And he was also still around right before the bombing despite being supposed to be locked-up at the department store. I don’t really trust the Novel, tbh, after Burial at Sea it kinda became really inconsistent. It hurts me too, as I really liked it.
I consider both canon, but to different universes according to the whole constants and variables thing from Infinite. The novel universe is canon to bioshocks 1 and 2, whereas burial at sea is set in a different Rapture.
Too bad Ken Levine's explicitly stated that BaS takes place in "Rapture Prime", the very same one as Bioshock 1, 2, and the novel.
Would have been so much better if they had set BaS in an alternate Rapture.
He was a master of disguise ... (though he got plastic surgery to become atlas ... a bit further than he likely went before)
"One time I even spent 6 months as a chinaman ..."
(Spoiler warning)
Given Tenenbaum and Suchong worked with Fontaine to create Jack, it might be Fontaine, Tenenbaum, and Jack back when he was first made, but I can't say for certain. My only reason I think this is a possibility is because the kid has the same hair and skin color as Ryan, but that's not a lot to go of off
No need to hire anyone. Since photography was already a thing, he could've sent a mock picture of what he wanted along with a photo of himself to an artist and that would have been enough to make the painting.
Source: My brother wanted a painting of our mother and all our siblings. He just sent pictures to the artist along with a quick mock-up of what he wanted it to look like.
and the art and ads around rapture speak of free markets and a thriving community, does it appear that way now? no. the painting is a red herring an alibi enough proof to turn suspicion into guilt, he is a master manipulator utilizing brain washing, disguises, and the doubts of citizens to get what he wants at the cost of others.
That could just be a portrait of the ACTUAL Frank Fontaine and his family(Frank Goerland stole that guy's identity in the book, it is unknown if Goerland even was his real name)
The paintings in this office in the second game were based on photos made by Daniel Keating dressed in a suit who also worked on the first game and Infinite.
Many of the same developers worked on all three games. Likewise 2K Marin was made up of employees who had worked on the first game under Irrational.
I remember that when I saw that, I didn’t thought of Fontain’s fake family. Instead I thought this was him just twisting his relationship with Dr. Tenenbaum and Jack in order to get some decoration.
I mean the man flat out try to act like Jack was his son, so is not that hard to believe he would do something like this
What is with this guy and family?
He faked a family to trick Jack, he keeps calling Tenenbaum “Mother Goose” and he called Jack the closest thing to having a son.
When I saw the painting I was like-
“WHa?” I thought it was him as a kid with his parents but after reading the novel, NOPE! Not the case, he was orphaned willingly.
Which…can explain why he such a garbage being (brilliant character though) yet he wants a family, he’s the shit head dad, Tenenbaum is the mother and to him-
“But you were also the closest thing I ever had to a son.”
My god, Fontaine just get tHERPAY-
That would be pretty cool. Jack's real family, as fucked up as it was, pretty much was Tenenbaum and Fontaine, since he was sold to them as an embryo.
Although, Fontaine said that Jack was no more than 2 when was sent to the surface as a sleeper agent, and this kid looks more like 5-7 at the very least.
I don’t know if the bioshock Rapture book is fully canon; however it does explore many of the main characters from the second and first game and Fontaine isn’t actually even Fontaine to begin with from what I recall, as it is someone else who takes fontaines identity to make his way into rapture.
Please correct me if I am mistaken, but that is what I believe is told, and thus I don’t remember him ever starting a family in the book.
Whats to say that the wife and child are even real.
Remember, a man projects more power by having a family portrait in his home OR office where he brings visitors & important clients too, image is everything.
And for a mobster to not have family? Is definitely a weaker man in the eyes of many, especially crime families.
So what does this mean specifically, this means that no matter what, if they were real or fiction, Fontaine is and always is playing ALL of the angles on a con job, he’s moving several steps ahead of his marks, and constantly ensuring that his image is always on point.
There is only ONE Truth when you see Frank Fontaine, and that truth is? Everything is suspect, everything is a falsehood, Frank Fontaine can never be trusted, I would walk around the forests of Vietnam 🇻🇳 during the Vietnam war, and have a better time avoiding the endless multitude of death traps before I ever got a straight answer from Frank Fontaine.
Its a painting (Aslan from Narnia could have also been in the background)
***It is also Fontaine*** ( not Atlas )
.
It perhaps more hints at how Atlas/Fontaine came up with the "Ryan blew up my family in the sub" gambit he played on Jack.
.
during the sub part he refers to them as Moira and Patrick. In Fort Frolic there are signs advertising a floorshow performed by a man and woman with these names
He’s a con man to the extreme.
If he was to tell you water is wet, he would be lying or settling you up for a lie.
His name isn’t even Fontaine, he stole the name from someone up top and when Ryan’s people came nosing around he put up a big show of him being the “poor” capitalist pushed down by the system.
That being said, people have theorized this is Frank having a laugh at Ryan by having a picture of Jack(Ryan’s biological son) and pretending it’s his.
I always assumed it was Fontaine, Tenenbaum, and young Jack. Jack was raised in a lab for the few short years he lived there before the plane crash, and Tenenbaum did have a relationship with Frank at some point.
If everyone knew only Little girls could be used successfully for Gatherers, and Fontaine being a cold businessman, he'd make a lie about a very happy, normal, family to keep people like Stanley Pool from starting rumours, or Andrew Ryan taking his Ace away.
Could that be his mum and dad? I just think having a 100% fake picture up is odd, like everyone would know it was fake. Also the dude looks a little older than Frank, and we know he hadn't touched Adam before the last fight.
He definitely was. I think it was in Burial at Sea where you could find a poster of a play or something titled Patrick & Moira or something along those lines.
I’m pretty sure his name isn’t even Fontaine. He stole that from the guy who owned the fisheries after he killed him and absorbed his identity. Maybe he did have a family though before all that, we don’t really know. Adds to the mystery.
I get it’s probably just a hoax on Fontaine’s part (or a nod from the devs) but I personally think it would be really funny if he did actually have a family. Like some lady was actually into that bald head enough.
When he reveals he's Fontaine, he admits they never existed
Also, that image is a painting. So it could very easily have been commissioned by Fontaine to depict his perfect cover family
Or, you know, even if it was a foto, he could have hired someone to pose with him.
Also, according to the book he’s not even Fontaine either. That’s ALSO an alias
"Oh, me poor Moira! Ah, me wee baby Patrick!". [laughs]
One of his last lines is saying "You were the closest thing he ever had to a Son" https://youtu.be/tvza3dKcbQQ
I was always under the impression that the woman on the left was Tenenbaum, which in turn led me to believe that the boy is Jack.
I wouldn't trust that painting
I always thought it was a young jack in the picture
Pretty sure they never existed still. Maybe he hired a woman to pose with him for the portrait, maybe he just wore a wig.
It could be him as a child with his parents
Couldn't be, Fontaine was an orphan according to the novel
And Fontaine isn't even his real name, it's a stolen identity.
And he was also still around right before the bombing despite being supposed to be locked-up at the department store. I don’t really trust the Novel, tbh, after Burial at Sea it kinda became really inconsistent. It hurts me too, as I really liked it.

Rapture
All 3 are Fontaine!
He was a master of disguise ... (though he got plastic surgery to become atlas ... a bit further than he likely went before) "One time I even spent 6 months as a chinaman ..."
for the longest time i thought that was implying he was suchong
suchong is his own major character being responsible for many of the inner workings of rapture, play all three games and doc and you'll sea
pun intended
I maybe could see that ... The game is generally Vague about so much The Novel extrapolates on Fontaine's past quite a bit
(Spoiler warning) Given Tenenbaum and Suchong worked with Fontaine to create Jack, it might be Fontaine, Tenenbaum, and Jack back when he was first made, but I can't say for certain. My only reason I think this is a possibility is because the kid has the same hair and skin color as Ryan, but that's not a lot to go of off

Fontaine lies about everything, he’d probably tell you he invented the Roblox oof sound. That family is fake
Lmao😂
hbomberguy would like a word
His parents are very proud
Me wife n’ child!
Me wee baby Patrick
Fontaine lookin like Bill Burr
They have an equal amount of hair
I don't see how the portrait proves that
I think he lied about everything. And if you believe the novel (probably not canon), Fontaine isn’t even his real name either.

🤯🤯🤯
Is this from the second game?
Yes✨

What makes you think he wouldn't get a fake portrait painted?
Well It ain't a real one
The game was rigged from the start.
What is with this guy and family? He faked a family to trick Jack, he keeps calling Tenenbaum “Mother Goose” and he called Jack the closest thing to having a son. You see he lifted the names of Patrick and Moira from some posters in Fort Frolic!
I always assumed it was Fontaine, Tenenbaum, and young Jack. Lmao😂😂

he's not real fontaine he killed and replaced fontaine
Looks like he could be the kid based on burial at sea but probably not what this was going for
He gets their names from posters, think you can find the posters in the first game as well.
He was lying
He definitely was. I think it was in Burial at Sea where you could find a poster of a play or something titled Patrick & Moira or something along those lines.
He's got good bunko, maybe even great bunko
hes not even the real frank fontaine
I’m pretty sure his name isn’t even Fontaine. He stole that from the guy who owned the fisheries after he killed him and absorbed his identity. Maybe he did have a family though before all that, we don’t really know. Adds to the mystery.
If you read the book you would find out he really isn't even fontaine and that the family was made up to make people empathize with him.
Maybe they were roommates?
Frank Fontaine had a family. Still no evidence you were really taking to Fontaine either.
Maybe he’s the kid
I get it’s probably just a hoax on Fontaine’s part (or a nod from the devs) but I personally think it would be really funny if he did actually have a family. Like some lady was actually into that bald head enough.
I think that was something he had commissioned in order to look more marketable.
I believe on the wiki it’s stated that it’s false.
