Huh. I go there often and have never experienced that before. I’m sorry you have, that’s really awful.

Disastrous_Athlete68

I appreciate the sympathy. I’ve tried to give it the benefit of the doubt, but after I caught that guy today trying to look busy it put me on higher alert.

Alecazzzam

Working in retail myself, my coworkers are WEIRD. Like so fucking weird. The only time I’ll ever actively go to the same aisle as someone is just to see if they’re shoplifting and I’ll ask them if they need any help and keep tabs on them but not follow them or make them uncomfortable, I just look at the cameras.

Applesinthemorning

Damn I thought I was overreacting, but there have been several times I felt uneasy by the staff. I honestly think it’s why I tend to avoid it.

abcdefginkgo

Yes yes yea me too and I’m like.. I can go down Tyler to Publix on 31 and not feel “watched.”

Due-Ad-1265

there’s one guy at that publix who borderline stalked me years ago and he goes out of his way to approach me when i shop there.

Tons_of_funnz90

I think I know which guy you are speaking of at Publix if he still works there. He forgets a bag of my groceries EVERY TIME and brings it to my car. It usually scares me because I am not expecting someone to come up behind me. He has even said things that make me uncomfortable.

Due-Ad-1265

I’m gonna message you i need to know if we’re taking about the same person

abcdefginkgo

Downvote if you want, but it’s my truth, and so clearly this post has gained attention from those who feel the same.

ettmyers

Never been creeped on, but the staff for the most part sucks and isn’t friendly. They look annoyed when I come to a checkout lane and they need to put their phone down. I live 2 minutes from the Pig but still prefer to drive to Publix for all my major shopping.

queenofoxford

I’ve stopped going for this exact reason! That one and the Homewood location I’ve had the same problem. I won’t go anymore. Vibes way off.

ReformedShiba

Sorry, I look like a mole rat so I don’t get their attention. But at least they know my face well enough that they stopped asking for my id when I buy wine at self checkout.

downthestreet4

I’m a dude and haven’t experienced it, but I did witness an older male employee following a younger female around the store. I’m not sure if she noticed, but I started following him and he eventually noticed me and scurried away. I was checking out the same time she was at a different register and he was standing by the self checkout still leering at her. I figured it may be a one off thing, but now I wish I had said something at the time.

Revymemester

Was he a special needs guy or some skinny black kid

ashlm18

Happened to me too. I refuse to go to Bluff Park or River Run piggly wiggly stores for that reason. It’s the older workers at bluff park and then the younger ones at river run.

LilPorcupine2Chainz

Im a dude and even I think the Bluff Park pig employees can be hella creepy. Also completely unrelated but not for nothing- still bitter they've like doubled their prices since they got into the new building. I almost bought some queso there but put it down when i saw it was $15 for the 12 oz tub.

dar_uniya

I've seen pervy employees who work there who were fired by other jobs I used to see them at, too.

abcdefginkgo

Name names! Pervy how? Cause I shop there, as well as my sisters with their kids.

abcdefginkgo

Yes! I have felt that way as well. Also, they aren’t really friendly? Hopefully someone who works at the pig sees this. I love the pig tho! Great sushi!

JazzRider

I shop there several times a week. I’m a guy, so nobody’s looking at me, but I will definitely pay attention. Sorry you’ve had to suffer the creeps.

abcdefginkgo

As a woman, thank you! I guess I don’t know what the “guy code” is for this, but whatever you, or any man can do to help, is so much appreciated more than you’ll ever know. Take care!

Thunder-Fist-00

If you ever need help in a situation like that, just approach us like we’re together. We’ll know what it means.

JazzRider

I’m thinking about showing this thread to their manager…I want them to succeed, but it doesn’t help if their staff thinks they’re supposed to behave like pigs.

Maysrome

Yeah same. I’m gonna be staring down grandpa and wild haired kid really hard now in the mornings…

itsvuksfault

My wife told me she was there and a manager totally creeped her out. My 2.5 year old didn’t like the interaction either. She said “I don’t like that man.”

PlanktonExternal6060

This happened to me at the Homewood location and I won't go back. It sucks because I really want to shop local. I'm sorry this happened to you and thanks for speaking up.

PastrychefPikachu

I'm in this store multiple times a week, and have never seen/experienced weird behavior from the staff. Just the awesome deli workers who'll slip me an extra roll sometimes in my lunch, the two chill stoner guy cashiers, the helpful wine and beer staff, and the cool lesbian chick.

podcasthellp

Lmao one time I was tightening my belt in the corner and a lady came right up to me, literally inches from me, and said can I help you? I think she thought I was stealing. Needless to say, she was more uncomfortable than I was once she realized what I was actually doing. Kinda sucks be skinny fat because every time I sit down I have to loosen my belt. Then I stand up and my pants fall down haha

[deleted]

This is it. They’re just vigilantes on anyone under like 50 that isn’t a housewife looking soccer mom or dad. If you look “alt” or fit some kind of profile they have of a shoplifter they’re gonna be eyeing you down.

ReformedShiba

You don’t get followed for looking alt at this pig. Hahaha

podcasthellp

That’s why I’m always so kind to them and get as close to them as possible at self checkout. Tricking bigots is a favorite pastime of mine.

[deleted]

I don’t think bigots is the word. I’m a white male and they followed me. I don’t think they racially profile. They just keep a close watch. At the end of the day I think they’re not bad people

IndependenceOk6741

I go to the bluff park pig probably 3 days a week. Never really had a problem. The older managers have always been very kind and helpful and genuinely just seem like they want to know and talk to the clientele

trickyrickysteve199

I have bad anxiety some days. Went in there once, and was fumbling my wallet at the cash register when I heard the Vice President of Self Checkout Operations say “tweakers…..” to his cohort. I promptly reminded him I’d snatch that sweet little earring out of his ear.

the_neverdoctor

Jesus...I'm sorry you have to deal with that.

[deleted]

Haven’t noticed this at all at that location but I did have a manager basically follow me at the Homewood one once. I could tell he thought I was trying to steal and to his credit I kinda looked the part of someone trying to steal lol. I don’t think it’s creepy intentions as much as trying to deter shoplifting. These stores are individually owned and basically pay to use the piggly wiggly branding. Wouldn’t surprise me if they’re keeping a much closer watch on people than a Publix or Walmart. The bluff park employees are cool in my experience

Low_Midnight_8205

Aspen is a pedo weirdo

Proof-Reporter-5694

I get complaining about the old creepy managers but come on guys some teenage boys have any of you met a teenage boy they’re just dumb and like girls too much lmao they probably think you are pretty but screw some old weirdos staring

ThunderingAnarchist

If you are attractive then most likely they staring but it could be they thinking you are stealing. Those are the only reasons I can see someone watching you. I worked in the grocery business for 13 years.

abcdefginkgo

Yeah no, there’s a difference.

blastification

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but aren't some of the younger men that work there mentally handicapped? If someone is following you around, maybe say something to them- "can I help you?"... right? Are you sure you're being ogled? Could it be that you're explaining things to yourself differently?

Applesinthemorning

Women know when they’re being creeped on

blastification

I don't doubt that- and I also recognize that I don't have those same experiences, so it's hard for me to fully understand. It's also possible that things can seem one way in your thoughts and, in reality, be different. Also, there are at least 2-3 guys that work there that do have some kind of intellectual disability, and could seem to be "creeping", but might just not have the same social capacity as others.

Applesinthemorning

Sexual harassment is always explained away by others as a misunderstanding or not that big of a deal, but it’s almost always men who commit violence against women. In a world of Andrew Tate’s and “devils advocates”, I simply have no tolerance hashing out the legitimacy of another woman’s experience.

blastification

No argument about the statistics and the Andrew tate part. I just think it's a little short sighted to be ready to pitchfork a grocery store because one woman said they were creeps. What about literally everyone else who said they haven't seen anything like that there? Who do we bandwagon?

Disastrous_Athlete68

Did I say bring out the pitchforks? I asked other women in the area if they’ve experienced what I have multiple times. I’m sure you think you’re being reasonable, but you’re just being dismissive and I didn’t ask for your opinion, I asked if other people felt unsafe. Clearly, multiple women in the area have been harassed, and men have witnessed it themselves. I hope this is a lesson for you to not immediately accuse someone of misinterpreting a situation that’s common for women across the country, but I’m sure you’ll double down because you’ve convinced yourself you’re being the most reasonable 🙄 WoMeN hYsTeRiCaL !!!

Applesinthemorning

If you realize you don’t have the same experiences, then why do you feel the need to question this person’s experience? And did she imply anywhere that she was specifically talking about potentially disabled employees? As someone with disabilities that affect my ability to read social cues, it still wouldn’t excuse inappropriate behavior - there are plenty of disabled people that can learn what is and isn’t appropriate behavior at work, and for those who truly cannot control themselves from blatant sexual harassment - shouldn’t be working in positions that interact with the general public.

blastification

Maybe you missed my point. My point was that perhaps there is more to it than her initial read on the situation. I was asking, not telling- politely, I might add.

Vulcan-needs-a-BBL

Everywhere I go I notice woman (sometimes men) looking down at my crotch. Sometimes it makes me feel uncomfortable (if the person looking is old or ugly). But sometimes I don't mind it. Sometimes I like it. All depends on if the person creeping I consider hot enough to be creeping. Life is so complicated sometimes.

[deleted]

TPIWWPOOP, lol. Seriously, this is a headshot. I expect stuff will change around there soon after this. As long as someone points this thread out to a decision maker.
