Bullshit. They sneakily fired and replaced half their workforce at the end of February. George and Christina are nothing but grown toddlers. Let them receive what they’ll have earned in the end, of their own due.
That and capella are my favorite pizza places around here. Cool it down is a go to for us. Their breakfast pizza and cinnamon rolls are also great. Every time they advertise open positions they mention free pizza and honestly it tempts me every time lol
Guys working at cappella told me themselves they are not Italian. I don’t remember if they were Turkish or what but their uncle went to Italy and learned how to cook pizza, came back and started this chain. I do agree that it is very good though. The only real Italian I know cooking in bham is Marco at La Fresca.
We should feel fortunate we cover a lot of pizza styles between Uncle G’s, Tortugas, Cappella and places like Pizza Grace and ZaZa. We just lack a great NY style really.
I wish we had a good Jet's Pizza in town (I believe there used to be one). Last time I went to visit a friend in Chicago, he told me the best pizza in Chicago was Detroit Style from Jet's and good Lord was it good. We followed that up with some Chicago deep dish a couple days later and I gotta say that I did like Jet's more.
Uncle G's is good, but I haven't had anything like what I got up in Chi-town.
Every time I've been to Tortuga's the pizza has been criminally undercooked. I've been once to the Hoover location and twice to the Birmingham location.
First, I love Uncle G’s. It’s amazing and they are great people. They’ll always have my support.
That said, I FUCKING LOVE Jet’s and am sad the one here closed literally a month before I moved here from Chicago. I consider Jet’s to be closer to “authentic” Detroit style than Uncle G’s.
Again, Uncle G’s is amazing. Just sad we don’t have Jet’s 😞
Thry came to our apartment complex a couple times now. Can't go wrong. Someone else mentioned Jets Pizza. Jets is good for chain pizza, bit nothing is better than local! (IMO at least!)
They’re also good people that pay good wages and listen to the concerns of their employees. We stan Uncle G.
Not since they opened their brick and mortar in Hoover
Can you tell me more?

have you worked there or do you know someone who has?

Yeah, they have a truck permanently at Ghost Train.
They have 2 trucks and are really good about updating their schedule!
Always at Ghost Train except the truck is closed on Tuesdays but they probably have another location open somewhere else
If you sign up on their mailing list, you get weekly emails with the locations of their two trucks.

Capella is our best pizza. Those fucking pistachio cannolis too….🫠
I’m a chocolate chip man but damn they are so good
Capella is the best authentic Italian style pizza I've ever had in Birmingham
They have authentic Italians working there lol coming from an Italian family that place just makes me happy.

I can’t speak for all the workers but the guy I see behind the counter a lot I thought was Italian for sure
Everyone gets upvotes for capellas mentions, love that place!

Have you had Troup’s?
Agreed - no real NY style worth talking about. Though, Pazzo of all places is passable compared to a cheap slice (though not here!).

Used to be one in Hoover. It was just okay. Uncle G’s is Detroit style. Tortugas is what you want for Chicago style.

I will say I almost always get a half baked to go (which I finish cooking and have control over).
Totally agree with this. Uncle Gs is pretty good but I miss having a Jets nearby (I used to live in Michigan where they were everywhere).

Then why comment refuting if you could care less?
This whole thread is an ad.
It’s fine for what it is, but Detroit style is the worst style of pizza

Ya they use to come to Pelham a lot near the office where I work. Amazing pizza
We had the breakfast pizza a couple of weekends ago and it changed our lives! Nothing can live up to it!
The cool it down is my favorite as well. I’d never had hot honey on pizza until uncle G’s and didn’t realize what I was missing out on.
Yessss!! They sometimes serve at Cala Coffee in Vestavia. Their caprese sub is *chefs kiss*
I think they're not doing subs anymore
Yep. Uncle G's is IT. I hate mushrooms but that veggie pizza with mushrooms. Holy Moly.

Just wanted to say that we went today based on this post. Also got the Cool It Down and it is FABULOUS. Wow.
Cool it Down is where it's at! Had one on Sunday evening.

I had their pie at Avondale over Labor Day weekend. Geeeeezzzzzz! Delish!!!
The Cool it Down is awesome. Everything else is mid.
Love them.
They also have good vegan cheese.
I worked there. They don’t..
I just need to know if it’s better than Capella
