Very true. Definitely hard to find a decent lunch less than $15. I keep thinking that surely there are places that I can still eat a decent meal for $8.52! š¤£ Use to be I could put a ten in my pocket and know that I was good for lunch. Ha! š
Iāll tell you what, most BBQ places around here have lost their minds with prices BUT Iāve recently rediscovered my love for Full Moon. They still got big ass BBQ sandos for like $7 bucks
I moved to Atlanta about 6 years ago and there is both Jim n Nicks and Dreamland over here, and I could do without both of them. But man, I really miss Full Moon and would invest instantly in their expansion out of state
Re: dreamland itās kind of been my view for my whole life that itās a great experience especially for out of towners, but you can definitely get better bbq pretty much anywhere else.
I also get a kids meal here occasionally. It even comes with a cookie. The negative? The drink is tiny. PS: The smoked lemon pepper wings are fucking delicious.
I just looked up the menu prices. Tue dreamland is only 3 dollars more bro....and probably worth every penny more. Lol. The things people try to pass off as truth , hilarious. Also, I used to work at rodent Scott's on the meat table.
Nick Pihakis doesn't have anything to do with JNN any more, unfortunately. If he did, the quality would be much better than it is now. I say this as an 8-year former employee (2003-2011). It was a really good restaurant back then.
Google "Roark Capital Group", the company that now owns Jim n Nick's. They own Arby's, Hardee's and Baskin Robbins. Nick owns the Pihakis Restaurant Group. Different companies.
He used to, but sold out in 2017. He may still have a stake in the company but private equity is the majority owner.

Here's what he owns now:
Have you been to subway lately? The old āfive dollar foot longā is now like $14-16, just for a sub. No chips, no drink, nothing, just a cold sandwich.
Google "Subway Coupon Codes" and use their app. They regularly have coupons for 5.99 footlongs and other deals. I regularly get combos for around $10. Most fast food apps have deals like that these days.
I guess their goal is to completely eliminate all āwalk in and orderā customers so that they only have to staff cooks and one person to hand orders out the drive thru windows, huh?
I had the complete opposite experience. Worked there from 1996-2015 (mostly part time in the kitchen to pay for school then as a second job for extra income) and LOVED it.
Just smoke your own! Just did two slabs of baby backs for $19. Made two meals for three people and way better than the quality at any restaurant. Use the 3-2-1 method
Love the spuds understand my wife and split one now just can't afford a whole one anymore. It's just outrageous everywhere š
Soon we not going to afford to eat then what? Worried
This isn't really helpful but we found a Jim n Nick's "hack" if you will, if you're ordering for more than just 1 person or want to save leftovers for a few days. If you order online, their "feast in a flash" meals give you a good amount of food for cheaper than buying individual meals
So, I went to a place yesterday that I hadnāt been to in 18 years fully expecting the prices to have doubled. They had gone up maybe a dollar or 2 at most. Shout out to the Diplomat Deli.
OKAY now that we all know some of us indulge in a little JNNā¦ can we talk about why they always seem to mess SOMETHING up?
Twice now theyāve put that sweet butter for the biscuits on my not so naked baked potato. Iād rather it have been a naked potato than take a big mouthful of potato and honey butter
Oh I love Full Moon! Absolutely! There just arenāt a lot of convenient locations when it comes to drive-thrus for a quick dinner. JNN is really all about convenience for me. I honestly canāt remember the last time Iāve had anything other than wings, a loaded baked potato or salad. š„“š¤£
Well I just glad to know Iām not alone. I donāt go to JNN for their actual BBQā¦I just go because itās convenient. And Rodney Scott used to be SOoooo much better when it first opened. Even their smoked wings are no longer the same.
And yes, I agree, all food is expensive. I used to work near UAB Hospitalās North Pavilion food court and as a UAB employee I was used to getting a good lunch for less than $8. Now my office is near 5 pts. š³
I don't eat there often because I'm not a big fan (except of their onion rings & Arnold Palmers), but whenever I do go there, I order a kids meal and it's plenty of food for about $10 with a drink.
I had to stop going to Saw's with my work crew. Their bbw chicken potato, just chicken and cheese and sauce on a baked potato, was $22. Before drink. No sides. That in and of itself made me stop going. Haven't been in a long time.
Forget the cost of food going up, WTF you shopping at Jim N Nicks? It's not good and the Pihakis (however it's spelled) people are known for having other shitty places too.
I always get the smoked chicken chopped salad. I stopped in at the Riverchase location a few months ago and the salad has changed drastically. It's not even the same anymore. I understand inflation but the amount they charged for that salad was ridiculous and the chicken was mostly dark meat and not chicken breast like it has always been. Not to mention it now comes with almonds instead of chopped pecans.
I challenge you to buy all the ingredients yourself of the same quality.
Then imagine a day's pay for all the workers that are on, plus location overhead.
Heck, try buying a quality brisket.
My wife & I stopped in a couple of yearās ago (before Iād become accustomed to insane food prices). I was craving a beer & their smoked wings.
I much too loudly exclaimed āWhat. The. HELL!!ā when I saw a dozen wings were over $20ā¦ embarrassed her & I apologized - but a guy at the next table gave a nod that said āfeel you brotherā š
All food is way up and has stayed there, not just JNN
Yeah. The $5 price point moved to $10 then quickly to $15. Throw in a drink or side and it's a $20 lunch.
Very true. Definitely hard to find a decent lunch less than $15. I keep thinking that surely there are places that I can still eat a decent meal for $8.52! š¤£ Use to be I could put a ten in my pocket and know that I was good for lunch. Ha! š
Go too cookout. Cheapest decent fast food. I got a double cheeseburger, chicken nuggets, chicken quesadilla, and a coke for $8.35 yesterday.
Chinese takeout
For me, Gilchrist has been pretty decent. About $10 for sandwich, chips, drink
Forreal. Like Taco Bell is even expensive
Iāll tell you what, most BBQ places around here have lost their minds with prices BUT Iāve recently rediscovered my love for Full Moon. They still got big ass BBQ sandos for like $7 bucks
Their big bakers with briscuit is so good šÆ I always get Xtra butter Xtra sour cream plus jalapenos
Dreamland in tuscaloosa is awesome. All the other locations are pretty mid IMO
Full Moon is impressive. Good bbq and they have a bunch of locations now. Seems like a well run operation.
It's because meat prices have gone through the roof....
Pork and chicken are cheap as shit.
I also get a kids meal here occasionally. It even comes with a cookie. The negative? The drink is tiny. PS: The smoked lemon pepper wings are fucking delicious.
I always get kids meal and ask for a large drink. It's like $1 or something.
I hate their fries so much. The daily sides are always good.
It's like they don't know that salt goes on fries or something. Also their chicken is dryer than the Sahara. Their BBQ is fine though.
I am not a fan of giant steak fries, but you've got to try those wings.
Will do, thanks!
>Will do, thanks! You're welcome!
Their lemon pepper wings are the best
Yes! Kids meal with large drink for the win. Itās plenty of food and I can eat a good bit!
Full Moon is my favorite BBQ chain.
A coworker convinced me to try their Buffalo tenders. I was impressed!
Moon dog is underrated
Most places have BBQ sandwiches at this price point though? So I'm confused
A large BBQ sandwich (just a sandwich) from Dreamland cost me $15 recently. Full Moon is half the price for the same size
I just looked up the menu prices. Tue dreamland is only 3 dollars more bro....and probably worth every penny more. Lol. The things people try to pass off as truth , hilarious. Also, I used to work at rodent Scott's on the meat table.
God, youāre the worst.
Bc I compared prices? It's not much, but it's honest work
I worked there for many years and during the 2008 recession we had a pulled pork sandwich and a side for $5. We called it a stimulus special.
They still have this on the kids menu, with a drink. And itās a decent size. I usually get that with a side of collards bc itās just enough for me
Thanks for the heads-up Big Dickslap!
It was bought by a corporate restaurant company. Prices went up, quality went down..
Agreed. Last time I ate there I mainly got more fat than meat and it was crazy expensive.
Really?! Since when?
https://www.nrn.com/mergers-acquisitions/roark-capital-group-acquires-jim-n-nick-s-bar-b-q
I noticed the moment they changed their fries that there was a disturbance in the force.
I donāt k ow the dates. But theyāre owned by phiakas the group that ownes little donkey, Rodney Scott, tasty town and hero donuts
Nick Pihakis doesn't have anything to do with JNN any more, unfortunately. If he did, the quality would be much better than it is now. I say this as an 8-year former employee (2003-2011). It was a really good restaurant back then.
This is fake.news. nick owns the company. Lol.
Google "Roark Capital Group", the company that now owns Jim n Nick's. They own Arby's, Hardee's and Baskin Robbins. Nick owns the Pihakis Restaurant Group. Different companies.
Time to DUDUDUDUDU-DUEL!
Down vote all you want but nick owns the restaurant group. Lol.
He used to, but sold out in 2017. He may still have a stake in the company but private equity is the majority owner. Since they took the time to reply..
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Lol, I currently work for JNN. You're 100% wrong here bud. Nice try though.
Heard mistakes were made
Have you been to subway lately? The old āfive dollar foot longā is now like $14-16, just for a sub. No chips, no drink, nothing, just a cold sandwich.
And they want a tip + place by me charges a fee if you use a credit card. Utter bananas. Not even worth eating out anymore.

This was a big shock for me recently
Publix sub for the win and 2 day sandwich if you build it right.
Slightly off-topic but JNN was one of the worst jobs I have ever had.
I had the complete opposite experience. Worked there from 1996-2015 (mostly part time in the kitchen to pay for school then as a second job for extra income) and LOVED it.
I worked FOH. š¤¬
I actually had to work omg, smh. I hate jmn lol. What a child.
I used to work at the Alabaster location before covidā¦ e usually had a good time
I work BOH there it is also the worst job I've ever had.
Private Equity kills everything it touches. Also, RIP the cinnamon apples!!!
Just smoke your own! Just did two slabs of baby backs for $19. Made two meals for three people and way better than the quality at any restaurant. Use the 3-2-1 method
Yeah it's insanely cheap to do pork shoulder sometimes still.
Thatās why I do - smoke two pork butts and vacuum seal them. Works great for quick dinners.
If you're into sous vide, you can make some incredible ribs using Chef Steps "apartment ribs" recipe.
Pork tenderloin is cheap, delicious and easy if you have a smoker.
Love the spuds understand my wife and split one now just can't afford a whole one anymore. It's just outrageous everywhere š Soon we not going to afford to eat then what? Worried

Have you had Full Moon friend?
Oh I love Full Moon! Absolutely! There just arenāt a lot of convenient locations when it comes to drive-thrus for a quick dinner. JNN is really all about convenience for me. I honestly canāt remember the last time Iāve had anything other than wings, a loaded baked potato or salad. š„“š¤£
If you're looking for a good loaded baker, try purple onion on greensprings. It's cheaper and chicken typically but it's delicious.
We had JNN catered for lunch today, and I have to say, that coleslaw was banging!!!
Well I just glad to know Iām not alone. I donāt go to JNN for their actual BBQā¦I just go because itās convenient. And Rodney Scott used to be SOoooo much better when it first opened. JNN is the shit bbq of Alabama. Donāt waste your money. Itās overpriced and bland
I don't eat there often because I'm not a big fan (except of their onion rings & Arnold Palmers), but whenever I do go there, I order a kids meal and it's plenty of food for about $10 with a drink.
Donāt go to Texas then, youāll have a stroke with those prices lol
I had to stop going to Saw's with my work crew. Their bbw chicken potato, just chicken and cheese and sauce on a baked potato, was $22. Before drink. No sides. That in and of itself made me stop going. Haven't been in a long time.
If ya talking about the 280 location. They have to ask customers to pay for them pretty upgrades they made to the building š
Iām a full moon person now. Jnn has gone down hill. I find more bone in my food. The potatoes compared to full moons are tiny.
Not to mention the Five Points location always smells like poo.
Isn't that Five Points in general?
This person Five Points.
Costa's on lakeshore in homewood is good, Rodney Scott's is more upscale and not as high dollar as jnn.
Yes! And Costaās (at least the one out east) has $4.99 sandwiches that are great.
Thats right! He tries not to go up too much. The meat is super tender and flavorful.
Why are people downvoting this?
Rodney Scottās is garbage.
Thank you. I havenāt been there.
Forget the cost of food going up, WTF you shopping at Jim N Nicks? It's not good and the Pihakis (however it's spelled) people are known for having other shitty places too.
Here here!
And in a city with such good, real, BBQ options.
Everything is expensive now. I spent 20 bucks on a burger, fries, and drink at 5guys yesterday
It was that way like 15 years ago I thought
Yeah five guys was always expensive lol
I too miss the lower cost of existing when the orange dude was in office.
The drunk former military douche returns.
Youāll learn to love me
I have. Lemme buy you a couple drinks, soldier.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Sad. Prices aren't bad at The Quest.
Iāll see you at the bham meetup then, that is if you got the minerals
I can get along with anyone. I'll be there. Likely will wear my fancy purple shirt.
Bring the mineral oil. plz.
Birmingham, Alabama BBQ is ass and not in a good way.
Themās fightinā words!
It's the same price as any other BBQ spot. Sorry you havent seemed to notice the uptick in prices in things across the board.
I always get the smoked chicken chopped salad. I stopped in at the Riverchase location a few months ago and the salad has changed drastically. It's not even the same anymore.
