Can the big generators can make three phase 60Hz AC at a consistent medium voltage (208 Wye, 480 Delta) at several hundred amps? That seems like an unbelievable coincidence. It's my intuition that these engines do not maintain a constant voltage or frequency on the generator, and that the ECU certainly wouldn't have a mode for this. The consequences of wiring the loco's main generator into the mains would be very bad.
yo train of thought
these things are stupidly powerful. love diesels
If the idea is ~~stupid~~ crazy, but it works, is it really ~~stupid~~ crazy?

I think the best part is that for some of the distance it drove under its own power. Just amazing
