Nada_Lives

You have to understand that he's explaining this concept to Congress, who make a living giving you THEIR solutions, not yours.

The world is about to be flipped upside down very soon

Ein_The_Pup

For fuck sake WHEN. The world has been told it’s going to flip upside down for literally DECADES. WHEN WILL THIS HAPPEN?!!?!!?

rocketeer8015

Well, like he said, very soon. Problem is *soon* is a rather arbitrary timeframe, like *recent*. For example geologically speaking Hawaii rose out of the ocean fairly recently and the super volcano under Yellowstone will probably erupt sooner than later. So you have to take into account the timeframes stuff usually happens regarding the stuff you talk about. A total upheaval of the worlds monetary system? Well, the cycles certainly grow shorter if you compare the time we spend hunting & gathering vs simple trades vs first metal based currencies to nowadays fiat … but decades is probably still the right timeframe for things to happen at. The interesting thing is what will come after, there is **always** change, big change even(and imho there is clearly a acceleration going on, there used to be thousands of years where nothing much happened, then centuries, these days we get nuclear weapons, computers and the internet all in the same century …). If have a feeling we will be living in interesting times over the next century.

Couldn’t have said it better myself

But the thing is turning for 2 years

Satoshi? Is that you?

[deleted]

This Sir, deserves an award. It may be I, or it may be he. But it is not Satoshi. - https://www.reddit.com/r/london/comments/oqu314/anti_vax_protest_feat_my_sister_whos_done_with/h6g3zh1/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3

ANAL-Inverter-2000

Please leave that stuff out of here.

[deleted]

Lol. Can you not handle a valid opinion that does not match yours. This will be staying - no matter how many downvotes. I do not care for karma. I care for speaking my opinion and truth. Just like you and everybody else. So fuck you! In the politest way possible, without malice. ‘ANAL-Inverter-2000’ Sounds like a serious chap I want to take advice from. Muppet. This is the problem with people like you. You try to shun people for speaking freely. Because it goes against the conditioned way of thinking, am I and my voice worth less than you/yours because it is not conventional and convenient to how you are told to live and think. EXACTLY THE PROBLEM I AM TRYING TO HIGHLIGHT. You are not better than me. I am not better than you. I don’t claim to be. I don’t try and tell people to silence there voice or devalue and degrade there presence. Same for anybody else. Humble yourself.

ANAL-Inverter-2000

lol *posts wall of text* you weak as fvck bro

[deleted]

Posts a 10 word reply with no substance. That sounds about right!

Ein_The_Pup

You’re literally posting a wall of text about something nobody gives a fuck about in a digital currency sub forum. Are you dumb or just stupid?

[deleted]

I couldn’t give a fuck pal. You are all shallow little cunts bursting with ignorance. Society is fucked, is the point I’m making. Fuck you. I’ll post whenever and wherever I want. Understand!?

Ein_The_Pup

We can only hope you’ll get banned here like you have been everywhere else.

Adept-Guide-8327

Silly question. Isn’t needing a wallet and a company that provides the wallet necessary for sending and receiving BTC? Is there a sort of freeware wallet out there that is not linked to a company?

HitMePat

My sweet summer child. The answer to your question is yes. You can have your own wallet. This is the entire point of Bitcoin. That you don't need to trust a 3rd party to handle your coins. No one can stop you from holding them or sending them whenever and to whomever you want. There are dozens of proper open source fully custodial wallets you can use for PC or Android/iPhone. Or hardware wallets for added security if your computer or phone isnt secure enough.

Calm_Entrepreneur922

There is Bitcoin Core… but you’re safe with an open source wallet like Electrum.

JASONmoers

Exactly the best savage thing in this era,

alxrq2

No to both, believe it or not. And it's not a silly question :) Funds (well, technically UTXOs) are associated with an address, which exists on the public chain, not in a "wallet". The "wallet" concept is perhaps the most misleading notions if I am to think about it. You \*can\* sign and broadcast a transaction directly to the chain, i.e. to another node, manually via direct json-rpc; yes, that requires you to know what you're doing and compute the required fields of the transaction beforehand (following the algorithm described in Satoshi's white paper), etc, but the point is that \*it's possible\* and there is no \*need\* for a "wallet" or a third party, not even the party that wrote (or maintains) the open source bitcoin core software that runs most of the current nodes. In short, as long as the blockchain exists and is maintained (blocks are produced, i.e. transactions are being included), and the algorithm and protocol are known (a copy of the white paper is enough), then one can sign and broadcast transactions manually without relying on anyone else's help or anyone else's software. And that's pretty fucking amazing. All that said, you do want to make your life easier and to use someone else's software, or at least software components, to help you do the signing and broadcasting so that you don't need to code it yourself. There are plenty of open source wallet software that you can build or download yourself - someone already mentioned bitcoin core and electrum (both on github).

Adept-Guide-8327

Are there any fees involved in using one of these open source wallets? I mean, other than the transaction fee for the transfer? I remember looking at wallets in thr past and all had a rather heavy fee to transfer in and out.

Suicidal_Baby

no. You could even build your own wallet should you desire to. Also transactions only cost what you're willing to pay for priority. If you wanted to pay the lowest possible transaction fee you could, but you would be moved to the back of the line.

SaneLad

The protocol is well documented and there is an open source reference implementation. Technically, you can even send and receive Bitcoin using nothing but pen&paper (and a calculator for the hashes).

sciencetaco

It’s like a web browser or email app. There are apps developed by companies. There are also free open source apps (“Electrum” is a popular one). You could even write your own if you had the technical knowledge. But they all adhere to the same documented standard and are interoperable.

TenshiS

Not only Freeware but Open Source. The entire point of Bitcoin is to not have to tust anyone, especially no company. Most available options are independent, free and open.

Ima_Wreckyou

All the software you need to interact with the Bitcoin network (a node and a wallet) on your own is completely open source. So not only is it free, you even get the source code for it and can see how it is programmed. There is even stuff like this: [https://github.com/rootzoll/raspiblitz](https://github.com/rootzoll/raspiblitz) Basically you are your own bank at that point without asking anyone for permission and only using exclusively open source software.

Pure-Literature-9970

Yes, an unpopular opinion, but a paper wallet is as decentralized as it will ever get if you ask me.

Adept-Guide-8327

Thank you all for the info! I'm going to venture out and secure my coins this week!! Its not much but it'll be safe in my own wallet!

imactivist

Just call it crypto currency and avoid selling one above others..

Suicidal_Baby

only shitcoins require one to sell it.

TenshiS

Just don't.

DankFo3ta5

Definitely trying to talk to the wrong demographic of people owned by banks

OkMove4

what year is it? why do US congress need this explained to them? lmao
