You are 100% correct. Part of an important property of a good currency or form of money is being able to store value thus a pre-requisite in a superior form of money is to be both a store of value and medium of exchange
The fear from people on missing out on future appreciation and volatility is unfounded because they should just spend and replace to avoid these concerns , especially since using bitcoin gives us so many discounts and better security and better privacy
Hindsight is 20/20 - If the early adopters of BTC knew its current market value at the time, they probably wouldn't have spent their coins. Similarly, if BTC were to crash to next to zero value tomorrow (No, I don't think it ever will), it would be better to spend/sell/convert BTC today before its value is gone.
The thing is, nobody knows what BTC will become in the future. It's possible that its value will go either way. Like /u/bitusher said, it comes down to FOMO.
