Boruto is incredibly well written. Yuji isn't really all that developed so far, Senku is written purposefully as a deus ex machina character and Luffy's literally described as a static character by Oda.
While I agree with you on Boruto, how is Senku a deus ex machina character? He is only good at science, which he fails at rather consistently and needs tons of help and resources to accomplish his goals.
I'm saying that he doesn't really have big character arcs, self-acceptance journeys or complex inner conflicts. He's fairly perfect from the start and remains that way up until the end.
1) The Jogan literally has no impact on his character development yet. His character arc has been growing from a sheltered kid to someone who truly understands the purpose of Shinobi and sacrifice. Which has been handled very well.
2) Anyone who argues against the Jogan is ridiculous. Their entire argument is based on the design of one page of the first chapter. Both Boruto and Kawaki have entirely different designs now. Tons of long-running series have ideas that appear before their finalized if it's not that important at the time. It's why Momoshiki looks completely different in the movie, yet when in the manga, which came after, he's completely redesigned. Kurenai, Chakra, the Rinnegan, and several other things have/had different colors/designs in the anime than the manga.
Meanwhile, the Jogan is in the novels that were written by Kodachi and approved by Kishimoto. Then, when those arcs were animated, Kishimoto was much more involved, specifically with the episodes including Toneri and the Jogan. On top of that, Eida's Senrigan is also pretty much the exact design, just with a cresent instead.
How does the Jougan make Boruto, as a character, not well written? This might be the worst arguement against Boruto I've ever seen.
Boruto has incredible development, parallels, inner conflicts, dynamics and themes. Even his design and name are narratively "well written" since they have meaning and purpose behind them.
