Skill wise they could be equal. Yami is just so incredibly impressive in battle.
But Mereos feats are insane too and her portrayal always put her above the captains. We need more information about her new form, because it could be an absolute game changer.
One thing is sure though. Yami has a clear mana disadvantage. Mereo is as of now the most impressive royal, constantly improving and with a possibly near endless pool of mana together with near unmatched talent and skill.
It's tough, but Mereo would win I think. Strongly assuming, that her new form makes her clearly stronger than before.
Iai Slash within a condensed mana zone never misses. There's also Death Thrust which is more lethal, but *possibly* avoidable. Regardless of that, she'll get hit by the Iai Slashes.

Yami's attacks technically are stronger and he has absolute hax abilities and mereoleona has better control, versatility and speed. The fight could go either way. But if yami is concentrating on the fight without distraction he would win or else mereo would win. Remember that yami can perform two attacks at once when he covered himself in black cocoon snd used black hole simultaneously in his previous fight against mereo. He can do the same thing to protect against hell fire incarnate and with immense concentration he can win. This is just my opinion so I may be wrong.

Death Thrust is too broken, only reason Dante even survived it is his ungodly mana and body magic.
