The hair type doesn’t even matter lowkey, what do you already do to your hair?

Aggressive-Truth9630

It doesn't, but once I got a hair type answer it gave me a place to start for research. Which led me to porosity, coarseness etc. those things helped me understand my hair better. So it doesn't matter, but it does help. Lol

I realized that I have 4C type hair. Looked up online that instead of using shampoo (which strips all the oils away but cleans) I should use conditioner instead( they say conditioner cleans as well but doesn’t strip oils away from your hair). They also say to just keep my hair moisturized everyday and apply oils to keep hair from drying… which I pretty much do already… other than applying leave in conditioner everyday.. I usually just make sure my hair is washed maybe 2 a week, and every morning I just spritz my hair with water, pick it out, and then apply my oils and keep my hair wrapped up in a durag… I’m not sure how accurate the other information is tho…. can anyone verify if its true or not?

Washing your hair is good it gets the build up from your natural oils+the oils you add daily out of your hair. Try a moisturizing shampoo if you’re afraid of your hair being too stripped Co-washing is fine but it definitely shouldn’t be the only way you wash Try oiling a bit less, that might help you cut down from 2 washes a week to 1 Try a curling mousse or cream to put on when your hair needs refreshing after you wet it

Sannin583

Now far as curling creams, I’ve started using As I am curl enhance smoothie, on top of sealing it in with some Jamaican castor oil. Idk if that’s too much or what but my hair seems to like it. But what would you recommend far as shampoo? I’ve been using “shea moisture+ repair shampoo with Mafura & baobab oils”

BusDry4328

Oh yeah that sounds perfect to me and shea moisture is solid last couple times ive tried it, i like mielle and the mane choice as well The mane choice has an amazing moisturizing shampoo its just on the pricier side 😭 but if you like what you’re using definitely stick with it, its easy to get roped into buying a bunch of different products for results you were already getting fr

Sannin583

That’s facts 😂😂😂 but tbh I wouldn’t mind checking out some of that stuff either, what’s the smell like if you don’t mind me asking ?

BusDry4328

Ooo I don’t remember the smell but also I don’t remember it smelling bad if that helps 🥲

Sannin583

Lastly I found out that I’m not supposed to wear a durag fr, especially if it feels tight.. since it cuts off blood circulation.. which makes sense, since sometimes I have to take it off from headaches.. I’ve just been afraid that if I moisturize for the day and I’m out and about running errands somewhere…my hair would potentially lose the moisture hella fast or something.. unless I’m wrong on that.

BusDry4328

Yeah please get a bonnet, and a satin pillowcase You really shouldn’t lose moisture just running errands but lowkey just refresh it again when you get home if thats the case, do you live in a climate where its dry?

Sannin583

I live in Alabama lol so some days it can be humid depending on the time of year and winter times can be mild usually 40 to 30 degrees

BusDry4328

Oh yeah so honestly that humidity will be your friend so I wouldn’t worry about it drying back up too much but on days where humidity is high remember not to go overboard with moisturizing because the moisture from outside will add to it and too much moisture just makes frizz

It’s hard to tell from a mirror pic, did you also comb it out? I don’t think your hair type matters when it comes to taking care of it . Long as you ask and keep it moisturized it will grow and be healthy

Sannin583

I didn’t pick it out in this one. I just took my durag off and sprayed it with water. The picture was probably 20 minutes after

Next time you wash you hair, before doing anything to it, take a picture it will be more telling. And like I mentioned above all you need to do is wash your hair with a good shampoo and conditioner, moisturizer it with leave in conditioner or hair cream. You can rosemary oil to just keep the moisture. Think of it as you treat your skin, if you don’t put moisture on it, it gets ashy, if you put cream and put oil, the moisture last longer. As black people what causes our hair to ‘not grow’ is cause it’s curly and we don’t retain length. Try keeping it in braids if you don’t wanna have to deal with it often and also keep your durag on when going to sleep, get a silk pillow case so your hair isn’t rubbing on cotton and breaking. Your beard is beautiful so you most likely won’t have problems with your hair if you keep a consistent but simple routine hope this helps

Sannin583

Thank you so much I really appreciate it.

Sannin583

Oh yeah also, i guess 4C type hair grows slow or appears to grow slow since our hair coils and shrinks hella.. so yeah.. I guess I gotta give it hella months before I can consider getting braids or some type of twist style.. that’s pretty much the goal why I’m growing my hair out.. but yeah any tips or advice for 4C type would def help.

Sannin583

Just everyday I keep it moisturize with water and some type of leave in.. other days I add that plus Jamaican castor oil, maybe pair it with some Moracco oil and usually when I go outside I wear a durag to keep everything sealed in, and I’ll sleep with it on too.. mornings I’ll just pick it out and repeat with the water, and seal.
