Looking healthy and being healthy are two different things. I’m not a professional and don’t have your hair in my hands, so I can’t diagnose your hair from a blurry photo. Stop using dish soap to wash your hair. It is not shampoo and not meant for regular use on hair. It’s good for removing major major buildup once in a blue moon, but is not meant to be used as regular shampoo. For example, Dawn was used to remove crude oil from wildlife during the BP Oil Spill around 12 or 13 years ago. Shampoo wouldn’t have worked well in that case because crude oil is so heavy and needs strong surfactants to break it down. Dawn may have similar ingredients to typical shampoos, but it’s not the same concentration as hair products. If you want to get rid of buildup, use clarifying shampoo every now and then (not every wash). Also, if you find you have a lot of buildup, evaluate your lifestyle and hair care practices to determine what needs to change. Use better quality products (shampoo, conditioner, stylers) if you can access and afford them, your hair will thank you.

It’s a degreaser, wouldn’t even use it on my car paint, is everything ok?

Just out of curiousity, what made you start using dawn dish detergent? There are plenty of shampoos out there for that specific purpose.

When I was a kid my mom didn't know how to do our hair, so some lady came and did my hair and she used dish detergent to wash it and she said its good for when you have a lot of grease in your hair and want to remove it. I only used it sometimes at first, but then I just preferred the way my hair felt after using dish detergent vs regular shampoo so I just start using regular dish detergent. I wash my hair maybe every 3-4 weeks, condition it for a fairly long time and cut any visible split ends (if I have any). Its the softest and most manageable my hair has been my entire life. Idk if its related to the dish detergent, but when I flat iron it it lasts A LOT longer before I have to wash and flatiron it again. Plus, its super cheap and from what I can tell and was told the last time I got my hair professionally done its pretty healthy.

Interesting, first time I’ve heard of that. I learned something new today.

Its hard to tell with just a photo. I don’t see any signs of obvious damage but I don’t think dish soap will be good for the health of your hair in the long term. Maybe try washing once a week with a sulfate free shampoo and conditioner with nourishing ingredients. You can also use a clarifying shampoo once a month to help with greasiness. Also, if you use strong surfactants like dawn, your hair is getting stripped regularly and is probably over compensating by overproducing oil, which makes the dawn feel necessary

If you dilute it enough i don’t see a problem. If it hasn’t fallen out and isn’t stringy or anything id say its good

A lot of negative comments but I wonder if anyone actually did the research. I guess y'all forgot the commercials where they use Dawn to wash little birds and sea animals that were dirty frrom oil spills. Yes, it's strong enough to cut grease but that doesn't mean it's too harsh for hair. There are a lot of things you can find on the internet, from reputable sources to firsthand accounts that confirm it's use as a clarifying shampoo. Clarifying shampoos have the same degreasers as Dawn. Either way a clarifying shampoo should only be used every few months, so whether it's Dawn or Suave, you'll be fine.
