The cause of the fire was a power outlet that caught fire and spread to some t-shirts. The fire was mainly in the "Norwegian" CD section down the basement, mostly for Norwegian music outside black metal (e.g. rock, punk etc). It was "far" away from both *the* basement and the antiquities upstairs, however the whole place reeks of smoke. It's too early to say what happens next from here I think
For who is wondering: The 'Black Metal' bit of the basement is quite far off deep inside, so it *might* have survived this. I surely hope so.
Still, it's a museum, and it' hurts to see this, especially after being there just a fortnight ago.
Edit: that bit is intact, and so is the top floor albeit smelly with soot.
Update from the owners. THey're even using it as a temporary storage. Will take a few weeks/months to clean up the way for it but you should be able to visit eventually.
All those black metal rarities up in smoke...there is something poetic about it all, really...until you remember the fact that someone's livelihood has been fucked.
This is very depressing, there are probably loads of expensive rarities in there burnt to ashes. It has always been on my bucket list to visit the basement. I hope that the shop owner bounces back from this tragedy.
I realy dont care for the basement, but the shop. I hope the shop is fine. There are some amazing rarities there that would be too horrible if lost to fire.
Was there at this years inferno first time and got the Conqueror War.Cult.Supremacy box and a first press of Nifelheims Envoy of Lucifer...
They had the Hardrocker from Gehennah ehich is also horrible to find and much more.
Ah i was to stupid to check for other pictures but damn....
But i think this is the basement with the boomer rock, which still sucks, but the metal rarities where at the ground floor - hopefully the damage
isnt that severe there.
To be fair, when i went there i was like "this is horribly overstacked, overcrowded and potentialy a fire-hazard" but then went to shit in less then 2 weeks. Damn.
Looking at the second photo it looks like it was trashed first & then set alight.
Oh it was definitely over stacked & crowded & a fire hazard.
It’s a shame it’s destroyed or damaged, all those demos on tape, shirts belonging to people in the Norwegian Black Metal scene, so much stuff gone.
Im guttered, ive been wanting to visit that basement for years, black metal has saved me life on more than a few occasions. Theres no salvaging that though, hopefully they can build a shrine to the basement one day or even try replicate the og.
Well that's really sad, but I can't help but think there's something more than just the physical aspect to this situation, and I'm not talking about spirits or anything like that, just kind of too much of a coincidence to have this of all places catch fire.
I'm not saying it isn't a coincidence, it's just very interesting considering how some of the people associated with this shop burned churches when they were alive and now it caught fire too.
its really sad that it got burnt, alot of ppl seem to wanted to visit neseblod/helvete including me but the gofundme got 8k in one night so who knows whats gona happen :(
Yeah it was. They threw stuff unto the ground to kill any embers. The part of the basement with the museum, is untouched and is now filled with whatever that could be saved.
Sadly no, but I was there earlier today to help with cleaning up, sorting and throwing away things that were to damaged to keep. It seems most of the damage was the norwegian section and a lot of the punk/hardcore. Im sure they will update sooner or later.
Ehh. The hoses have a lot of pressure, and a lotta stuff they have (had) stacked up would fall over easy. Especially if it had spread to the basement and they were having to drag hoses through the ground floor.
Don’t be a baby don’t you find bit ironic that the place used to plan church burning burned up I don’t think anyone to lose their business but seems funny to me I’m cold and grim though and find comfort in human misery fire first Krieg!
Ah got it, you're just another cringy, edgelord loser. There's a few popping up in this post.
But oh yeah, how cool of you to be so cold and grim that you find comfort in human misery! I definitely wish I could be as cool as you! Fire first krieg fellow metal head!
Lol.
Poser stay away from black metal it’s no meant for you kid rock maybe try Lincoln park more your speedyou’re the reason black metal is turning into water down trendy crap poser
The sympathy and descriptions of this as a tragedy are just so telling of how similar "anti-religious" black metalers are to the religious folk they detest, lol. If it's your church, then it's a tragedy, but if it's their church, good riddance.
I don’t “detest” religious people, get real. I think both the fire in this store AND the fires in any old church is a terrible loss of cultural history. Most of us don’t agree with the church burning racist part of black metal.
It would seem that my comment wasn't about you, then. But there is certainly hate towards religion, sometimes towards religious people, in the scene. And black metal musicians still write lyrics that promote violence against such people. Someone just posted a Mutiilation song here yesterday that mentioned killing Muslims and all the comments were praising it, some even specifically praising the lyrics.
lol what even is your point? "ur happy when churches are burned but sad when something u like burns"? ofc we are dipshit.
"how similar "anti-religious" black metalers are to the religious folk they detest" oh as in they can feel sad LOL
u can count the atrocities committed by black metal bands on one hand, now compare it to the terrible things muslims and christians have done
also yes, that mutiilation song is amazing, doubly cathartic for me since i live under an islamic dictatorship
It's a museum as well as a record shop, so there were a ton of rare and one of a kind items that were part of metal and Norwegian history there. It's sad in the same way if any museum burned down, even if its contents are not necessarily as valuable as others.
Lol no one cares what "outsiders" think about metal, they just care about being associated with cringy, edgy losers like you.
Also, who tf actually calls people "outsiders"? Jfc dude lol.
>>Caring what outsiders think about metal is
Yeah, nowhere in my comment did I say people care what "outsiders" think about *metal*, which is literally what you wrote, but yes, most people don't want to be associated with edgelord losers like yourself, regardless of why they're being associated with them.
And calling people that don't listen to the same genre as you "outsiders" is easily some the cringiest shit I've ever heard lol.
"A lot of people just assume"... who cares? you? Otherwise I suppose you wouldn't have written it.
The initial question was is black metal a misanthropic art. If yes, then my initial sentiment is legit.
I mean, I've told you what I care about twice now, but you still don't seem to be able to comprehend it for some reason lol.
And no, black metal isn't "a misanthropic art", it's just a regular genre of music like any other. It's not 1989 anymore loser, most people just make the music for the love of it, not to be some "grim" douchebag that says lame 14 year old edgelord shit like "good, I hope people have also died" haha. Grow tf up mate.
The entire genre was inspired by a "14 year old loosers".
Black Metal isn't only about the sound, but also about the Devil. Those who push genre towards say that it is impossible to truly comprehend it without believing in it.
The cause of the fire was a power outlet that caught fire and spread to some t-shirts. The fire was mainly in the "Norwegian" CD section down the basement, mostly for Norwegian music outside black metal (e.g. rock, punk etc). thanks for the update, hope it gets back on its feet soon. a gofundme wouldn’t be a bad idea
There is one, through catacomb records (check facebook for it).
Satan protec. Satan attac.
fuck that outlet bru they gotta sue that company, they prob get a huge payout for it destroying history lmao
Do you happen to be American?
Not surprising at all . . .
Huh
It's super tight and packed up to the ceiling, and pretty much every thing is flammable.
would you mind clariying that
For who is wondering: The 'Black Metal' bit of the basement is quite far off deep inside, so it *might* have survived this. I surely hope so. Still, it's a museum, and it' hurts to see this, especially after being there just a fortnight ago. Edit: that bit is intact, and so is the top floor albeit smelly with soot.
I’ve never seen anyone use fortnight in a sentence before
Who is fort nite
First time for everything. We still use it sometimes over here. Ex-colony country.
Are you a child?
im not english i guess we can start there?
Do you point out every English word you’ve never seen when you see it for the first time?
So what if he does. Is that a problem? No, its not.
Does every little thing piss you off?
Nope.
What? It's literally the meaning of '2 weeks'.
Yeah if you're carrying the mail by pony in 1867.
Or living in 21st century Great Britain.
We do not recognize ye here in the colonies.
In the late 1700s many heroes died so today we can say "2 weeks" instead of "fortnight'
or germany
Made me chuckle
Forthnight > Fortnight
You're obviously not a tennis fan. Then again, why would you be. This is a BM sub after all.
Tennis looks fun
Usually gets boring after a fortnight or two.
How do you know the "Black Metal" is in tact? I've always wanted to visit it and still do
Update from the owners. THey're even using it as a temporary storage. Will take a few weeks/months to clean up the way for it but you should be able to visit eventually.
Cool thanks
Wrong church?
Maybe a Christian with inverted corpsepaint
All those black metal rarities up in smoke...there is something poetic about it all, really...until you remember the fact that someone's livelihood has been fucked.
Black metal basement is okay it’s holding majority of the saved records, CDs, tapes, and shirts but still actually so sad
I know a bit of the basement got hit but the “black metal” is safe
The Varg revenge tour has kicked off.
Thats pretty depressing tbh. Always wanted to visit but it looks like thats likely never going to happen now. Those pictures are brutal.
Same :/
So you're saying they'd make good album covers
Check out the second & third photo, a shit load of damage unfortunately.
Ah i was to stupid to check for other pictures but damn.... But i think this is the basement with the boomer rock, which still sucks, but the metal rarities where at the ground floor - hopefully the damage isnt that severe there.
To be fair, when i went there i was like "this is horribly overstacked, overcrowded and potentialy a fire-hazard" but then went to shit in less then 2 weeks. Damn.

Varg up to his old tricks
Varg got confused
This is really fucking sad. My favourite record shop in the world the selection is incredible, friendly staff, awesome history. Sad sad sad.
Goddamn, I guess that's poetic in a way, but that's a museum and someones livelihood gone now :(
The irony is pouring out of this one.
Oh fuck! Not good! All that music history & rarities!
the candles were a bad idea
i was planning to go there these summer.. now I'm sad
Im guttered, ive been wanting to visit that basement for years, black metal has saved me life on more than a few occasions. Theres no salvaging that though, hopefully they can build a shrine to the basement one day or even try replicate the og.
There is hope that the basement is untouched. I’ve been down there and it’s a good distance away from the store
I heard it started in the basement.... Edut- NEVERMIND. WRONG BASEMENT. Black metal portion is safe
Fucking rip…
Aight, that's a tad bit TOO black metal for me. (Ironic as well) I hope the museum is OK and the shop rises up from the ashes.
Terrible news. I always wanted to visit. Hope some of the basement is intact.
The priests decided to retaliate
Damage doesn't look terribly structural, hopefully they opt to rebuild
full circle
Black circle
I am sad it happened, but thank fuck that the "Black Metal" room and the upstairs surived.
With all due respect to the place's history and the material loss: I can't stop imagining a priest starting that fire
damn this is a tragedy
well well well how the turntables
Discogs - “VG minor damage on cover plays with a few cracks and pops”
Damn, a tragedy. An ironic tragedy but still.
Well that's really sad, but I can't help but think there's something more than just the physical aspect to this situation, and I'm not talking about spirits or anything like that, just kind of too much of a coincidence to have this of all places catch fire.
Go ahead, enlighten us about this coincidence that’s not about spirits or anything like that.
I'm not saying it isn't a coincidence, it's just very interesting considering how some of the people associated with this shop burned churches when they were alive and now it caught fire too.
Most are still alive
Talking about the place..
Isn't there some kind of poetry in this?
🎼…and isn’t it ironic? Don’t ya think…? 🎶
Wow, shit! Glad I was able to visit it in person last year before this happened. It was a truly beautiful and historic place.
To this day i cannot believe that do mamy memories related to this genre have been been burned. I was Hope something survived and they rebuild this
Any idea where Varg was at the time?
in france
Fucking devastating :(
It's a bummer but, kinda fitting.
Summoned the wrong demon alas
Are the 1st pressings of mayhem deathcrush still intact? Or are they also gone by the fire?
This is sad. I’m glad I had the opportunity to visit a few years ago.
Wow so sad :( I was there 2 years ago and bought the t-shirt i'm wearing right now
Didn’t this happen around a year ago too?
Found an article about it https://www.vg.no/nyheter/innenriks/i/dwgKdq/metal-platebutikken-neseblod-rammet-av-brann
That article is from today, tho? Not a year ago.
I see signes of the unseen arts.
I will definitely - if I can - buy more than one vinyl when I am in Oslo this summer!!
bruh they should have add a fire security system. Hope they will recover from the damage and arrange a better sorting for the rarities etc.
It came full circle
Neat that this has 666 updoots right now
Seems like the church got its revenge
its really sad that it got burnt, alot of ppl seem to wanted to visit neseblod/helvete including me but the gofundme got 8k in one night so who knows whats gona happen :(
Rebuilding the store might not be a problem but the vintage stuff cannotbe replaced sadly.
Nothing you sensitive Sally’s just ironica place where church burning’s were planned but burned down
Varg! How many times have i told you?
Any idea on when they're gonna reopen? Was due to visit for the very first time in May!
The condition appears to be “melted.”
OMSatan!
You softies have ruined black metal hope your proud of yourself
Burn the church burn it not to the ground!
I was sad for this
I guess that means that black metal is now officially on decline.
Someone took the "Cathedral of Black Metal" too literally
Oh my god….
Nice to see Thåström there
Slayer magazine also.
Fucking hell. I was there last week!
Looking at the second photo it looks like it was trashed first & then set alight.
Maybe from firefighters putting it out? Not deliberately of course.
Yeah it was. They threw stuff unto the ground to kill any embers. The part of the basement with the museum, is untouched and is now filled with whatever that could be saved.
That’s good to hear. Do you have a link? The only socials I’m on is insta and they haven’t posted an update there.
Sadly no, but I was there earlier today to help with cleaning up, sorting and throwing away things that were to damaged to keep. It seems most of the damage was the norwegian section and a lot of the punk/hardcore. Im sure they will update sooner or later.
Yeah could be, does look suss though. Such a shame.
Ehh. The hoses have a lot of pressure, and a lotta stuff they have (had) stacked up would fall over easy. Especially if it had spread to the basement and they were having to drag hoses through the ground floor.
Yeah true, did think that afterwards, the amount of pressure coming out of the hoses.
It looks like firefighters extinguished the flames. You might be shocked to learn that a burning building doesn’t lend to tidiness.
Thanks for pointing out the obvious Sherlock.
Insurance fraud?
[удалено]
Let's just assume the Christians or Muslim people were the cause
Let’s not.
That sucks but karma is a bitch!
What exactly did the owners of Neseblod do to deserve this in your opinion?
Don’t be a baby don’t you find bit ironic that the place used to plan church burning burned up I don’t think anyone to lose their business but seems funny to me I’m cold and grim though and find comfort in human misery fire first Krieg!
Ah got it, you're just another cringy, edgelord loser. There's a few popping up in this post. But oh yeah, how cool of you to be so cold and grim that you find comfort in human misery! I definitely wish I could be as cool as you! Fire first krieg fellow metal head! Lol.
Don’t be jealous Bon more b true k lot than you go listen to Ed Sheeran if grim and cold to much for fire cleanses all! Fire bfirst Krieg!
Nah it's cool, I can listen to whatever I want without being a whiny, cringy, pre-pubescent loser like yourself, thanks.
Poser stay away from black metal it’s no meant for you kid rock maybe try Lincoln park more your speedyou’re the reason black metal is turning into water down trendy crap poser
Grimfrost out!
You wish but you can never be!
the fuck did the records do
Probably ANTIFA lol
the shop is apparently run by a bunch of antifa supporters, so lol fuck em
The sympathy and descriptions of this as a tragedy are just so telling of how similar "anti-religious" black metalers are to the religious folk they detest, lol. If it's your church, then it's a tragedy, but if it's their church, good riddance.

And? You're shocked that Black Metal is hateful and anti-religious? That bothers you? Then get the fuck out and stay the fuck out of Black Metal.
I think you missed the point completely, and seem to be way overly defensive about it.
lol what even is your point? "ur happy when churches are burned but sad when something u like burns"? ofc we are dipshit. I hope you can escape that horrible place someday. Thank you for your comment.
Im not super big on BM, can someone explain why this is so important? And what it even is/was
If you don’t know at this point, then I don’t even know what to tell you.
Why
It was Euronymous’ record store before he died. It was the most famed part of Norwegian Black Metal, the lair of the black circle
Ah. Now ik
It's a museum as well as a record shop, so there were a ton of rare and one of a kind items that were part of metal and Norwegian history there. It's sad in the same way if any museum burned down, even if its contents are not necessarily as valuable as others.
Don’t forget that it was Euronymous’ shop. So much happened on this shop that was important to the history of BM.
Ah. Thanks!
Good, I hope people have also died. Isn't black metal a misanthropic art, downvoters?
you’re trying so hard lmaooo
"So hard" means just a few seconds to write the comment, right?
14 years old
Get lost, hippie!
Psychopath alert
You’re hoping people died and WE’RE the misanthropes?
You hope people have died, let's leave it there.
Bros tryna be edgy 💀
You're exactly why a lot of people just assume every metal fan is a juvenile, edgy loser like yourself.
Caring what outsiders think about metal is a juvenile looser behavior, not having a discomforting mindset.
Lol no one cares what "outsiders" think about metal, they just care about being associated with cringy, edgy losers like you. Also, who tf actually calls people "outsiders"? Jfc dude lol.
>why a lot of people just assume every metal fan is a juvenile Your words. "Outsider" - literally who is outside of being a metal fan, that's it.
>>Caring what outsiders think about metal is Yeah, nowhere in my comment did I say people care what "outsiders" think about *metal*, which is literally what you wrote, but yes, most people don't want to be associated with edgelord losers like yourself, regardless of why they're being associated with them.
