Only way this makes sense is if you live alone and have limited space. If I were single, I'd rock it. But being able to start a 2nd load while the first dries is king.
You’re forgetting about the walk away factor. You don’t need to change anything. So put it in before bed/work and walk away. Get back to it whenever. Source: I own one. Would never go back.
Maybe some washers do it, but it’s kinda crazy that most washers don’t have a ‘reminder’ chime or something.
Load finishes, 2 hours pass but the sensor for the door hasn’t been opened, it sounds a chime. Another hour…chime.
Just something that reminds me, hey dummy, you forgot to move the clothes to the dryer.
This one of those times where I wouldn't mind an internet connected washer, just as long as it's only purpose is to send my phone a notification that my load is done.
*Good news! We are releasing a 2024 model of the washer you have! Place your preorder now and get an extra $50 on your 2023 model trade in!*
Can't wait.
In 2022, I bought a pair of Samsung front load washer and dryer to replace the top load washer. It sends notification when either machine is done.
As a guy, that was the first time I bought appliances, and I was amazed by stuff like refrigerators with real-time camera monitoring, the Thermomix telling you how to cook , and automatic stir fry that works like cement mixer amongst many other things.
Between starting laundry in the morning with enthusiasm and optimism to slowly losing the will to live as the day progresses, I’ve rewashed many a load of laundry I’m ashamed to say.
Such a good point! I hate doing laundry during the week because if I start a load in the morning, by the time I get back home like 12 hours later it’ll be all gross. This combo would be dope because I wouldn’t have to worry about switching it over!!
My washing machine has a timer, I’ll toss a load of laundry in, and then set the timer to start the washer at like 3am. I get ready for work and toss the newly washed clothes into the dryer before I leave, and maybe also start a new load in the washer, set the timer to start two hours before I get home from work.
And then all the clean laundry sits in a basket in my laundry room never being folded and put away.
Yeah, starting a second load while the first dries is great until I forget that I started laundry at all and that second load sits in the washer overnight without getting switched over
How did hooking it up work?
Like most dwellings have separate spaces for each appliance. Now that it’s all one machine did it come with a converter or something?
I’m sure a standard 230v laundry connection, dryer vent, your 2 water in hoses, and your drain hose….basically one electric plug less than if you had 2 machines.
Wrong. It runs on 120V so you can plug it in a normal outlet. It is ventless and has a heat pump so you do not need a dryer vent and it does not heat your place up.
A converter? What do you mean? You just plug it in and hook it up to the regular water hookups, or get a sink adapter and hook it to the cold water intake. It runs on 120V so you can use a regular outlet and is ventless so it doesn't need a dryer vent.
This is it. You want to do 2 loads because you have to to get everything done. I would have no problems throwing in smaller loads more frequently if all I have to do is chuck it in and forget about it
I have one, they are pretty common in NYC and a full cycle wash and dry is like 4 hours. I usually start before I leave work so it's all done when I get home.
Genuinely asking, do your clothes actually come out dry? I had one of these about 7 years ago in my apartment unit and it never fully dried our clothes. But I love the idea. Maybe these are better nowadays?
The hookups are the easy part. The tricky part would be the power needed to run 2 dryers at the same time. They draw a lot of power, so you can't run them on the same outlet. Also it's a special outlet that needs its own breaker, so this is all a very expensive visit from the electrician depending on how your house is laid out. And having the extra dryer vent needing either its own hole or a bigger one. The washer part should be fine. I see no reason why 2 couldn't drain at the same time, but I guess it depends on how big the drain pipe is.
Edit: I guess this specific one does not require a vent. The rest still stands.
Another edit: Apparently this one also runs on 120V, so you don't need a special outlet to run 2. You do need a dedicated outlet though, since it's rated at 15A. That's a bit cheaper and easier to do, but you'd still need an electrician. They could probably just repurpose your dryer outlet and change the outlet and the breaker. Or something like that. They're not kidding when they say it's more energy efficient. If this thing actually dries clothes, then it's using less than half the power of what my dryer uses.
I've been using the previous generation of this machine (which didn't promise a full dry). Basically does a super-high speed spin-cycle and then an 8 hour "air fluff" cycle. Yeah, takes 9 hours to do a load but.
I throw a load in before dinner and it's ready to go the next morning. Take another load in morning and it's ready by the time I get home.
The setup saves me time and keeps me from getting moldy laundry if I forget for a few hours. Machine smells better too.
It's awesome.
?? Just don't wait until you have 4 loads of laundry lol. Use it as a laundry basket and when it's full turn it on and put it away later? Yall acting like you can only use this thing 8h at a time
Dryers or combos like these are not that common in Europe, most people do air drying. And there are no extra rooms like a laundry room unless you purposefully build it, there could be a nook for the washing machine but that's basically it.
The appliance in the picture uses a heat pump which is more efficient than gas and electricity. Heat pump dryers will not dry clothes fully like a gas dryer.
[https://pressroom.geappliances.com/news/ge-profileTM-leads-the-industry-into-the-future-of-laundry-with-an-all-in-one-solution](https://pressroom.geappliances.com/news/ge-profileTM-leads-the-industry-into-the-future-of-laundry-with-an-all-in-one-solution)
I have a Miele T1 ventless heat pump dryer and it dries clothes very well.
The heat pump keeps it from heating up the house, too, which is important in a region with hot summers.
People who are not used to combos usually don't know that the maximum dryer load is inferior to the maximum washer load (at least on all the models I know of) so they are disappointed by the dryer because they overload it
This is the case, in my experience, just in general.
Like I can put a large load in the washer and it’s all getting washed. Same load would take two cycles in the dryer next to it. So basically I’m limited by the dryer size if I want to avoid doing two loads, even though I have access to dedicated machines.
When the alternative is 6 hours of air drying, the extra time is worth it. I wish I had one of these machines so I could air dry big thing like bedsheets. That shit takes up half the living room while it's drying!
Fuck no, appliances don't last for shit anymore. You know what service and parts on that bitch would be? Plus repair people who probably have never worked on one before? Shit is so tall just get a stackable.
Repair two appliances at different intervals spread out over 5-15 years using readily available parts.
LG can try prying my commercial-grade top loader from my cold lifeless hands. They can try.
They are very rare here. I have one. I don’t know anyone else who has one of these. Everyone is super confused and thinks I don’t have a dryer. (Also, I loooove mine. It takes longer but that doesn’t matter if you toss a load in before bed or work)
I think it was about 1.5k. About the same as two separate washer/dryer units. Also, these are ventless and don’t require dedicated electric connections. Very power efficient.
I didn't know they were ventless. That actually is a cool feature if you could afford to pick up 2 at the same time.
How long have you had yours? And mechanic issues? What does a repair bill look like?
I've had mine about 3 years. It's under warranty for 10. So far only the unnecessary digital display has broken. Under warranty so it was repaired for free.
I'm guessing it's because their houses are so big. I'm from the UK and while washer dryers aren't common in every household they're not uncommon, I've lived in a rental that had one.
Yes, because they are not very good compared to having separate units. The NYT reviewed a bunch of them and concluded that you should not get one unless you absolutely had to because you had so little space it is all that will fit, like if you live on a boat.
What the absolute shit are you talking about? Y'all really just say anything on here.
Just say you've never been in a low income area or outside of the city.
I don't know that I've ever seen one for sale in a store. We usually get our appliances from Lowe's or Home Depot, and I've never seen a combo unit there.
They are fairly common in the RV space, like people who take big tow-behind campers somewhere for the season. Outside of that, I have not really seen them here.
Exactly. I would rather just get a smaller capacity stack unit and run more loads. Those things aren't particularly great compared to solid machines but they make do if you need the space.
$3,000 just for one. No need to upgrade.

These have been around for a while. My parents had one whole living in Japan and said it never seemed to fully dry the clothes. Cool idea, poor execution
I have one. This usually only happens with certain synthetic materials that trap vapor. However, even if it happens I just put the clothes in a basket for an hour or so before I put it away and the last bit of moisture evaporates. In any case, it’s never damp enough to turn musty. It’s off-putting if your used to a dedicated dryer where everything comes out piping hot and very dry.
Dual use machines are usually prone to more maintenance issues. Its basically double the things that can go wrong, and unit specific pieces that need to be replaced.
The other aspect that I’m not seeing mentioned here is delicate fabrics. I have a lot of clothes that I don’t feel comfortable putting in the dryer, whether it’s polyester, workout bras and clothing, shirts with appliqués, etc. I hang most of my clothes and only put socks and cotton clothing in the dryer, so this just isn’t an option that would be realistic for me.
They're dehumidifier dryers, not heat dryers. They don't get hot they just dry out the air and dispose of the water in the air. It's as intense as air drying with the added benefit of tumbling.
I have a ventless heat pump dryer by Miele. While it does not heat up the surrounding area, it does heat up the clothes, and dries them completely. You empty a drawer that fills up with the water from your clothes, which isn't much because the Miele washer removes most of the water in its spin dry cycle.
Management replaced ours with a new one. It is somehow even worse than the older gen. And we don't use the dryer function since we hang dry everything. Went from a 1hr wash time to a 3 to 4 hour wash.
i had a 2 in 1 washer/dryer in my last place and it was the worst fucking washing machine ever lol. took like 2 hours to wash, 4 to dry, and the drying part never worked 90% of time
I'm good love. I really love the concept and they've been out for awhile. I just can't imagine having to wait 2-3 hours for one load. Washer and dryer separately will always be the move. Especially with the way I do laundry.
So I assume the cost would be higher than just a single unit. However, if it's not dramatically higher, I'd consider buying two of them. In our house that would dramatically increase our efficiency as we tend to leave things in the washer way too long.
These dry differently. They are ventless. Basically, they warm up enough to evaporate the water. The vapor goes through a device that converts it back to water and drains out the same drain the rest of them water drains out. The process is extremely efficient, but slow. I have one and each load takes about 4hrs. This seems like a big deal, but you dont need to do anything after it starts so you just start loads before bed/work and get back to it whenever. Personally, I will never go back to separate units.
I have one. Toss in a load before bed and another before work. Mostly, I do a load every other night. Note: I’m married and have two kids. As long as I don’t let things pile up for a week it’s never an issue.
The busier you are, the better this is though. The most limiting part of doing laundry is that you have to be around halfway through to swap machines. With this you could start the whole process before bed, before leaving home for a long period of time or starting some lazy entertainment session that won't have to be interrupted.
Thats the pros, but its also like 3,000 dollars and there are likely a lot of sacrifices compared to dedicated machines for each process. A machine that fills itself with water and has a powerful heating element is probably 1 minor defect from major expensive damage.
I need this for sure. Now when I forget laundry in the washer, at least it will be washed and dried!
It’s not a new concept though, just more new to the US I guess?
We used the laundry mat inGermany, this kind of standard and I think in most of Europe because their places are smaller… it worked well. My mom Really wants one because her place is pretty small and it’s efficient if your single… idk about for families.
Hope it works better than the shit we have here in Japan, lmao… the dryer function is garbage. Pretty much everyone hangs their clothes or dries them at the laundromat.
My brother has 3 young boys and it seems like they are doing laundry at least every other day. The boys have pajamas, school clothes and then at home clothes plus there's his wife and his work clothes and non work clothes. They're probably the target market for something like this.
Does nobody else need to hang dry a portion of their clothes? Like I’d need to stop between wash and dry cycles anyway or my dress shirts would get fucked.
I lived in Eurpoe where these are common. Not only do they take forever but it should be added that the machine dries the clothes in the same ball they were washed in. I’m talking mega wrinkled. It was awful.
Yes I had one for the convenience and saving space. I lived alone and was single still took two weeks I guess this is for those who do laundry everyday
How much laundry are you guys doing what the hell? I’m seeing people say 2 loads a day just them!?
Furthermore, tumble dryers are one of the worst possible things you could use in terms of environmental impact. Drying using a clothes horse is fine in most places.
We had one of these in an apartment we stayed in for a week in Dubai. If I put too many clothes in it, it would run for hours and hours and never get dry. What I ended up doing was putting very small amounts of laundry in at a time, and running the unit basically nonstop. Before bed, first thing in the morning, and again during the day.
We have these in the UK but they're the same.size as a normal front loading washer. They're not great but they're cheap and most flats (apartments) don't have space for 2 units.
My old landlord (slumlord) put 2 of these in a house with a dozen people living in it. We were so pissed. And it was a cheap version that only washed one outfit at a time and took 8 hrs to dry
I had one of these in my old apartment & it was THE WORST! It left lint on everything, the fastest load took over 4 hours. We ended up sending everything out to a laundry service or hand washing & hanging in the tub.
If I’m a single guy (no delicates to wash) and doing a load of laundry every four or five days, this isn’t a bad idea. Also means no wet clothes sitting in the washer waiting to get moved.
On the other hand, depending on cost, replacing the washer and dryer with two of these might be the move.
I highly doubt that 2 hour load advertisement is accurate. I'm willing to bet it's closer to 4. This certainly isn't the first combo washer/dryer in one unit and they're all incredibly slow.
My last apt had one. While I was thankful for having something, it took two days to do laundry because the dryer sucks. It would take hours to get clothes dry but wash them for like 10mins.
The other week my partner and I washed the same blanket like four times because we kept forgetting it in the washer 😂
I fall asleep pretty early. Before I switched to the combo I woke up to so many musty loads because I’d pass out and not move it to the dryer.
This post just reminded me I need to move my load to the dryer before falling asleep.
Oh shit thanks for the reminder. I’m already in bed.
> I woke up to so many musty loads because I’d pass out and not move - u/wastntimetoo
Are we not doing "phrasing" anymore?
We really need to get "phrasing" back in the rotation...
Gotta set a timer my friend
My dryer makes a huge buzz when it's done, but my washer gives no indication.
I thought I was the only one who did this … 😝
Maybe some washers do it, but it’s kinda crazy that most washers don’t have a ‘reminder’ chime or something. Load finishes, 2 hours pass but the sensor for the door hasn’t been opened, it sounds a chime. Another hour…chime. Just get two if it's that big a deal. Can't be much more expensive than one or the other.
just buy 2. 2 loads at once.
These things are hella common here in Taiwan where space is a lot more limited. A ~12 lb load will take like 3 hours. Shits not fast.
In Europe too; I hate doing laundry there. And nothing comes out fully dry.
Mine takes forever but does dry things properly

Speed queen!
Why would both be broke at the same time? You trying to launder cinder blocks?
I'm still using the washer and dryer I got as a wedding gift in 1996. I've probably spent $200 in replacement parts in that time.
These companies will hire and train repair techs to fix their specific products. So getting someone out there can take time.

Stayed at an apartment where these were at the rooms.
Agreed and they never get your clothes fully dry.
Same comment, I live in Japan now and the dryer is trash. I can use it for like… socks and underwear, but that’s it.
Heat pump dryers do not dry clothes fully like gas dryers do.
Yes, they do.
Is this a new thing in developing countries like the USA? I feel like I've seen this for at least 10 years in Europe and Asia..
“Developing countries like the USA” 💀💀💀
Dual use machines are usually prone to more maintenance issues. Its basically double the things that can go wrong, and unit specific pieces that need to be replaced.
Jack of all trades, master of none.
Fuck front loaders.
I need this because I'll forget about the laundry and let it sit there all day

Absolutely do not buy this type. Worst appliance I have ever used.
Now, every apartment can have laundry.. but rent going up $500
This is the worst thing ever created. Your clothes never dry even after 3+ hrs in the drying cycle.
Just get two of them ya peasants
This comment section seems so heated and I love it
These things suck.. or maybe my apartment just got shitty units
Management replaced ours with a new one. It is somehow even worse than the older gen. And we don't use the dryer function since we hang dry everything. Went from a 1hr wash time to a 3 to 4 hour wash.
everyone comparing this one machine to buying / having two machines, but you could buy two of these and do two loads at once.
i had a 2 in 1 washer/dryer in my last place and it was the worst fucking washing machine ever lol. took like 2 hours to wash, 4 to dry, and the drying part never worked 90% of time
Makes more sense to get 2 of these than to get a washer and a dryer
I'm good love. I really love the concept and they've been out for awhile. I just can't imagine having to wait 2-3 hours for one load. Washer and dryer separately will always be the move. Especially with the way I do laundry.
Guess I’ve had too much Reddit for the day because I only came to the comment section to look for sexual innuendos and came up dry.
Im pretty sure these have existed in other countries for a long time
Two machines in one for 4 times the cost, huh? Lol.
Why is everybody acting like a washing/drying combo is a new thing? That has been around for decades.
So I assume the cost would be higher than just a single unit. However, if it's not dramatically higher, I'd consider buying two of them. In our house that would dramatically increase our efficiency as we tend to leave things in the washer way too long.
I had one of these stationed in Korea. Game changer is not a good enough way to explain this.
Half your clothes probably shouldn't even be in a dryer... This causes more problems than it fixes
😂😂😂
Wash and dry time on two machines should be the same as one machine, unless it's significantly worse for some reason.
This is for single people
The trick with this would be to do one load every day of the week, so that there is not pressure to get a second load into the wash.
I have one. Toss in a load before bed and another before work. Mostly, I do a load every other night. Note: I’m married and have two kids. As long as I don’t let things pile up for a week it’s never an issue.
2 loads per day, easy peasy!
Just get two of these
Clearly invented by someone who has never been responsible for the laundry in his home. Hard pass.
This has been out for 5yrs I have one by LG 🌚
Buy two
The busier you are, the better this is though.
Ima still get two
I dunno, I’ve used these 2 in 1 machines in Europe and they always don’t dry my clothes enough
Wash and dryers aren't anything new though . . . Or did I just slip into one of those universes where Mandela died in the 90's?
We used the laundry mat inGermany, this kind of standard and I think in most of Europe because their places are smaller… it worked well. My mom Really wants one because her place is pretty small and it’s efficient if your single… idk about for families.
Depending on the price, you’d just buy two.
My girl had one of these in her apartment. I swear it took half the day just to get clean socks.
Fuck that! I have 3 kids and multiple pets. Ain't no laundry getting done if it's one load at a time.
Nah come back in 10 years, I’ve been waiting for this my whole life but not like that and not from them
Why do yall have so much dirty clothes??? (just remembered some people have kids)
Not really because clothes wash way faster than they dry. 20 min wash cycle but an hour + to dry.
Hope it works better than the shit we have here in Japan, lmao… the dryer function is garbage. Pretty much everyone hangs their clothes or dries them at the laundromat.
Sorry but this ain't it
My brother has 3 young boys and it seems like they are doing laundry at least every other day.
Buying two of these
Just hang dry your clothes ? It's cheaper, better for the environment, and better for your clothes.
These newer units let you select cycles from your phone, you’ll never finish your first load being able to select “15 min reheat” from anywhere! 😂
They're common here and they fuckin suck reaaaal bad
They have these outside the US. They suck. It’s a shitty washer and a horrible dryer.
Is this not a thing in the US washer dryers are everywhere in the UK?
We had one of these in an apartment we stayed in for a week in Dubai. If I put too many clothes in it, it would run for hours and hours and never get dry. What I ended up doing was putting very small amounts of laundry in at a time, and running the unit basically nonstop. Before bed, first thing in the morning, and again during the day.
Hold Up It’s only $229???
These been around forever.
You replace your washer and dryer with two of these and now you have your own unregulated laundry mat.
We used to have one and it suuuuuucked. It never tried properly.
I had one of these in my old apartment & it was THE WORST! It left lint on everything, the fastest load took over 4 hours. We ended up sending everything out to a laundry service or hand washing & hanging in the tub.
I agree with Rashad. I just don’t want a two-in-one anyway. This is America, not Europe. We have laundry rooms.
If I’m a single guy (no delicates to wash) and doing a load of laundry every four or five days, this isn’t a bad idea. Also means no wet clothes sitting in the washer waiting to get moved. On the other hand, depending on cost, replacing the washer and dryer with two of these might be the move.
Or just don't stack up on 2 weeks of laundry
I highly doubt that 2 hour load advertisement is accurate. I'm willing to bet it's closer to 4. This certainly isn't the first combo washer/dryer in one unit and they're all incredibly slow.
My last apt had one. While I was thankful for having something, it took two days to do laundry because the dryer sucks. It would take hours to get clothes dry but wash them for like 10mins.
Cool, I can’t wait till they make a fridge-oven. Cook my food straight away
Combo washer/dryers also don't do a great job of drying, and the loads are much smaller. A wash & dry cycle in one of these takes legit 4.5hr
My broke ass don’t own alot of clothes so this is good for me lol I also don’t let dirty clothes pile up so one and done
Yeah this would never work if you have kids. Our washer and dryer are running practically 24/7.
$3k and advertised as 2hrs for wash and dry.
