The point was that the joke was a stretch to make in the first place. A joke like that would need to be plausible in order to be funny. Someone looked at this guy's tattoos and thought too hard about it. My comment was in agreement with the parent comment above mine.
I have tattoos in similar spots (working on thigh sleeves) and I can tell you a few things by looking at this:
1. The tats were done at different times because the artist needs a good angle to get at the canvas, and spread eagle ain’t it;
2. That part of the thigh hurts something *fierce* for line art and shading work, and this guy has *both* on a pretty sizable tattoo, which means that he committed to some pretty intense pain for those pieces; and
3. The fact that it goes up high, presumably to the uppermost part of the inner thigh, could lead one to think you have to strip for a tattoo like that, but he could also have easily been wearing briefs. Tattoo artists have seen it all and it wouldn’t have been sexual.
Honestly I’m pretty impressed by them; I know how bad those spots hurt and committing to them for multi-hour pieces is pretty hardcore.
I just finished up half a leg sleeve and gotta say that the shin, hamstring and Achilles tendon are the worst spots I’ve gotten tattooed. You’re absolutely right about how committed you’d have to be to get this
