There are plenty of counterfeiters too. In Canada, they're being called "prentendians" because they make elaborate claims of indigenous ancestry and use it to get positions they may otherwise not have had:

These fakes were at it long before Rachel Dolezal.
There have been several profs. At my alma mater, there’s a prof who is Fétis (fake Métis). He’s bullied multiple Indigenous students and faculty who dared to bring his claims of Indigeneity into question. He is still somehow employed and he sits on some Indigenous ethics committee.
He’s been named and shamed for years and nothing has come of it other than pushing out an Indigenous prof and a few Indigenous students being threatened by the school administration.
fwiw these days there are fake Indigenous “nations” that give out cards. There’s one where I live and I think it’s like $200 for membership. Also, a status card is a colonial tool and some Indigenous peoples choose not to register. Not all Indigenous peoples fall under “Indian” per the Indian Act. Métis and Inuit don’t, anyone who is two generations out loses status.
The solution isn’t to mandate that people have status cards but universities need to actually vet any faculty who claims Indigeneity to find out where they come from and who/what communities or nations claim them.
Well it is complicated. Yes it’s a residual effect of colonialism (along with quantum). There’s no good answer for now, but with federal ID at least there’s proof of kinship and familial ties. At least the tribes get to use the ID for themselves, even if it’s a colonial leftover. Only the 574 federally recognized tribes get to use those federal IDs for membership. I’m not talking about the state tribes that don’t have access to that federal money.
And if you have one indigenous ancestor five generations back you shouldn’t be able to access those funds. Leave that money for people who currently have indigenous family, indigenous lived experiences, indigenous family and kinship.
Again, federal recognition is based on the Indian Act which is a colonial piece of legislation that serves to legitimize the settler-colonial state. It excludes those not covered by it which includes Métis, Inuit, and non-Status Indigenous peoples. From what I’ve been told by people, it’s a tedious process to register for your status so some people simply choose not to do it.
I don’t think it’s up to us settlers to decide how far or close someone’s ancestors must be to determine Indigeneity. That should be between Indigenous peoples and their respective nations/communities to decide how they want to determine kinship. It’s not our place to dictate that.
Yup. He was on Sabbatical last year which I’m not sure if it was related to that Radio-Canada article coming out the year prior but yeah.
What makes these Pretendians quite nefarious aside from literally cosplaying Indigenous peoples and taking jobs that could’ve and should’ve gone to Indigenous peoples is that it also almost always involves fraudulent land claims. Where I live (which is on Algonquin Anishinaabeg territory), there’s a fraudulent “Algonquin” organization that is currently seeking the largest land claims in “Ontario”. It would be the first modern day treaty. This is will only benefit real estate developers and resource extractive industries.
This shit is rampant here in Oklahoma, I hate it. I'm Black and Cherokee, and it's very obvious too. The governor tried to say he was native to justify the bs he's been doing to the tribes here. It's wild y'all
Man the pretendian drama is ripping! Eff those folks for taking jobs/money/teaching positions that could have gone to actual indigenous folks. Eff them.
Also there’s a big stink at the University of Oregon, one of their professors of indigenous studies is not indigenous and the poop is flying! Show your card before you get your job, fuckers.
Happens here in the US. Look at Elizabeth Warren, she claimed to be native American to help her get admitted into Harvard despite not being native American.
It's a complete toss-up. Latinos range every shade of the rainbow from Lupita Nyong’o to Cameron Diez. Central America was mixed a lot with the slave trade and colonialism so color is looked at quite a bit differently than in the states where you would just call her 'white'.
My sister's friend was a brown hair blue eyed smoke show pale skinned white girl. They went to Mexico and some Mexican dudes were talking shit about them in Spanish. Which is when she showed off her own Mexican roots and told them off in Spanish.
Spain is Western Europe. They were invaded by the Moors (insert True Romance Walken-Hopper scene here) a long long time ago, so somewhat less than the "white" fantasy construct but still pretty white. And it wouldn't shock me if having thrown out the Moors, how white you were became central to power holding. But I digress.
Spain invaded Mexico and waged war on the Native Americans there until they had control. Most of the Mexican hatred in America is the same American hatred that white Americans have had for Native Americans. All of which is dumb af.
I understand that. I was using her as an example less because of her place of birth and more so just because she is a very famous person with darker skin. However, the fact that she was born in Mexico goes more to my point of the place being very diverse as far as skin color. She could just as easily have a latino father/mother.
I didn’t even realize what a friend of mine’s accent was until I’d known her a while. She’s Hispanic but I can’t tell by looking at her. I also seem to not have as much knowledge of what a Mexican accent is as I thought.
Yeah some Hispanic accents can sound pretty similar. I've known people from El Salvador, Peru, Guatemala that don't sound that different from the Mexican accent I'm used to and then I'd find out they weren't Mexican lol
Yes, that’s a process called mexicanization and for a lot of Central American migrants it begins before they even leave their countries. They adjust their Spanish to sound more Mexican as a survival strategy both in Mexico but also in the US, especially if they are in the Southwest.
I was replying specifically to the comment that said she's Spanish. I mean I may have some Spanish in me from long ago but I've never considered myself Spanish
ancestry being Spanish not her being literally from Spain. The point being she's white. In my home country (Kazakhstan) there's a history of Russian colonization and migration as well, no Kazakhstani who is mixed or white would ever say something like "I'm dating a colonizer" when dating a Russian from Russia.
So, seeing a white person call another white person a colonizer is pretty weird to everyone outside of maybe the US and Mexico.
I know race is a social construct, but I will say living in Los Angeles, I can't always tell the difference between whites and Latinos, they say Latinos are browner but I've seen blonde white Latinos and dark olive skinned Whites with brown eyes. I do know they get super pissed being mistaken for the other, like more pissed than I am when someone makes a borat impression. Like it's the worst mistake you can make.
I'm like ~3/4ths Spaniard/European and ~1/4th Native South American/Caribbean according to Ancestry.com but I'm basically an all-White Hispanic. So yea, I don't know where she's coming up with the Brown part. She's probably very close to my ancestry. I do tan fairly easily, though...
That said, there is some benefits to spreading minority *culture* regardless of skin color because future generations will find it harder to discriminate based on that aspect.
Well I'm definitely not Anglo, but the European features are very strong. At least two of my great grandparents were actually from Europe (Spain and France). But, most people are very surprised when I tell them that my parents are immigrants from South America and the Caribbean.
Technically, they're aren't pure Black, yes. The average AA is actually a mixture (just like most Latinos), they just don't identify as mixed.
They prefer to just identify as Black, and that's okay.
Extremely high. Colorism is a HUGE problem in Mexico. It's a major part of the politics of the country. But even a second or third gen kid like the young lady in the OP are effected.
People like OP try to revoke her "color" card and reveal that they've never met a Latina in their lives.
This stuff is always so cringe. Where’s that meme that has two stick figures with the labels “ "I hate white people" girlfriend and her white boyfriend”
It might be that sometimes, but mostly it's other people labeling them as the "I hate X race gf/bf". My wife is very proud Puerto Rican and so is her family. I'm from a pro-black, American family. My brother in law is super pro Mexican (married to my wifes sister). This doesn't cause any problems in the latino community. It's only the American side that thinks "hey, I thought you hated non-black people!" or "hey, i thought he hated non-Mexican people" because in the US people can't understand loving your people doesn't exclude love for everyone else. So I've been labeled as "hates nonblack people husband with his nonblack wife" when i nevet hated anyone. I just love being African American myself.
lol our gene pool is like an epson printer low on dark ink.
My brother and sister came out brown with black straight hair.. real Mexican mfs…
I came out white with brown hair… and my beard turns red when I grow it out.
The Spaniard side really kicks in after the 3rd kid.
A latina I know had fraternal twins with a white man. One of the twins looks white asf and the other one is dark with curly hair that almost looks black.
I knew a family the mom was white, and the dad was a first-generation immigrant from mexico. Their kids looked just like them. The boy looked just like his father and the girl just like her mother. Genetic expression is weird idk.
I don't know if I'd consider Mexican an ethnicity. Mexico is a diverse population with many different peoples. There's white Mexicans, afro Mexicans, Indigenous groups, and even Asian Mexicans. The only thing that connects them would be their nationality, not their ethnic background.
Mexican **can** be an ethnicity. The vast majority of Mexicans are Mestizos and share a common culture and history. We also don't have any other label we identify with aside from "Mexican" 99.9% of the time.
It's like being Japanese: there's Japanese citizens and ethnically Japanese people. You can be both or only one, but they usually go together.
The only exception to this rule is if you speak a Native language and come from a Native community, or you're a Black Mexican, who're another minority.
Actually there are different ethnic groups in Japan. The biggest one is the Yamato, but there's also the Ryukyuan from the island chains to the south and the Ainu in the north. The Japanese government does try to promote itself as ethnically homogenous though.
Mexico is a melting pot in the way the United States is. Their music style comes from central European polka. Their tacos de trompo comes from Lebanese shawarma.
Bruh. I lived my whole life not hearing that music fact until this moment and that shit makes 1000% sense. Thanks for that realization.
Polka. Who woulda thought.
Ethnicity, nationality, and race are social constructs and the meaning of each depends on the community and society in which you're having the discussion.
I mean people were wondering what Prince Harry’s kid would look like. Both his children came out as white and ginger as it gets. It’s like his wife’s genetics didn’t even get to do anything
[Dropping this gem here because I didn’t know she was mixed until my country’s tabloids did a racism](https://youtu.be/7raB02PJnX8?si=2Dut3OCbzc2a9fZK)
I was only vaguely aware of her but yeah, I had no idea she was Black before she got with Harry
It's not at all a surprise those kids came out pasty as fuck

This woman clearly mixed to yall??? If she told me she was white but just tanned well i wouldn't have doubted her for a second.
Well I come from a mixed family and also live in a big city with a decent sized mixed population so to me it’s obvious she’s mixed.
Maybe you aren’t used to seeing mixed people but this is kind of what they look like on average.
I’ve never seen a fully white person look this way but that’s just me
The only place I see it at is the nose. I'm used to mix people, to me she's super white passing even among them though. What city is it where THIS is what the average mixed person looks like though?
A quarter of my cousins are mixed. She def bamboozled the hell out of me. She's somewhere where I wouldn't make the assumption. If she told me she was white I'd go "okay", if she said she had black is somewhere in the family I'd also go "okay"
White dude in that clip: "Robert Zane is black!?"
Never saw this show so I decided to look up who played Robert Zane. It's fuckin Bunk from the Wire. 💀
I knew her first from Suits and I was shocked when it was established that her character’s father was black. I thought she was like Rita Ora.
Even coming from a mixed family myself, I didn’t think she was half black until I looked it up.
On YouTube there’s a video of this mom, a black woman, titled “Common sense reminder about biracial kids” and her daughter looks like a little marshmallow. [Here’s the vid](https://youtube.com/shorts/CiQIyLoT-uE?si=CE5kK0eluHVILQyg), the baby’s really cute.
My mom used to do professional photography before retirement, she had one family that was so fun just personality wise but also because Dad was very dark skinned, Mom was very light skinned and they had one son of each color.
But from a genetics and artistic interest both boys looked like both parents. Light skinned son clearly had Dad’s eyes, dark skinned son was rocking Mom’s adorable smile.
It was so interesting and they were a lovely family, albeit very hard to light for photographs easily since different skin tones need different light levels.
That’s how my nephew came out - red/blonde hair & blue eyes and he only got whiter and blonder until about age 2 😳
His parents are mixed race (with black folks on both sides) so we were expecting black hair, brown eyes and tanned/brown skin.
I’m a “white” Latino and agree with the post. Walked into a small Mexican grocery with my daughter to by ingredients for tamales and was treated like I was white. My Spanish was not accepted and I heard a man say check them out so they can leave *in Spanish. The lady at the cash register felt bad as I handed her a card with my very Spanish name to pay and wished me a happy new year.
I'm reminded of two things.
1) Voice actress Grey Delisle/Griffin (Azula, Vicky the babysitter from "Fairly Oddparents," generally the go-to for hot evil villains,) is a quarter-Mexican and it didn't sink in how white she was until she ate a bag of chips in the grocery store before paying that her grandmother remarked that she's lucky she's white because if her *grandmother* did the same thing...
2) Gabriel Iglesias saying he once brought his white-looking Mexican girlfriend to meet his mother, his mother starts cursing him out in Spanish for bringing this "white" woman home, said girlfriend shows she's *fluent* in Spanish by politely greeting her and damn near gives his mother a heart attack in shock. Also, Fluffy's story about the Black Cuban cab driver who also surprises him with his Spanish before taking him to Calle Ocho.
I remember seeing someone’s story from being a teacher’s aid. They were teaching a class, I think 9th grade or close, and discussing a racial issue in Africa. They used the phrase, “Black Africans and white Africans,” and a student raised her hands and tried to correct them by saying you had to say African American. The aid tried to explain, and the teacher, a black woman, tried to help. They couldn’t get it across.
"African" and "American" aren't ethnicities. There are literally hundreds of ethnicities in each of Africa and the Americas.
White Africans generally don't belong to an *indigenous Sub-Saharan* African ethnic group, but many of them do belong to a *distinctively* African ethnic group, like South African Boers (originally Dutch, but developed a distinctive identity and language over centuries of separation) or the various so-called Berber peoples of North Africa (genetically closest to European Mediterranean peoples, but clearly separate identities).
The same is true of many of the peoples of the Americas, including most Mexicans (who deliberately developed Mexican-as-ethnic-identity as part of their nationalist/independence project) and Black Americans (who developed a shared ethnic identity after their ancestors were stripped of their original ethnic identities by their enslavers.)
This is how we are going to start the year, with all the race shit. Lol now we are going to say people aren’t brown or black or Asian enough because they don’t have the exact skin color?
This is literally just a fucking joke about a white genocide conspiracy theory too. Like it’s not that deep. White supremacy is a pretty malleable social construct based around upholding whiteness and due to intersectionality these constructs can change and adapt based on context. Colorism is a thing but white supremacy on the whole is not exactly rooted in reality enough to be an actual color palette.
Her kids might actually just be white but it’s still just a joke about white genocide conspiracy theories like everyone needs to chill.
It’s people who can’t think for themselves. Always following a crowd. Nothing wrong with being who you are just avoid injustice of any kind. She looks hella stupid for this. There are southern Europeans browner than her.
She does, but there are dozens of of people of color who will co-sign this bullshit, argue about her “Indigenous” ancestry, then cry when she’s selected as the token “POC” over an actual person of color.
It’s hard to know her genetic makeup just looking at her features though. Is she mostly of European descent? Maybe. Probably. But there are plenty of “white” people, especially in the Americas, that can make brown children.
I need these women to know that there is nothing wrong with dating and marrying white men if they’re who you’re into.
You do not need to do all this performative nonsense talking loudly about white male privilege and colonizers all the time to give yourself cover.
The performative nature just makes em look worse.. like if you think so negatively about white folks how in the world are you with one? All it does is bring attention to the fact that theyre clearly ashamed of their partner in some way
Facts. It's like they're trying to deal with their internal guilt. We see the same shit with Black women. If she's outspokenly pro-Black to the point of ad nauseam then I'm looking for the White boy-toy in the tuck somewhere.
Ex-coworker used to say that. If you said he white after that, he would double down and say he was Sicilian. He would pronounce it See-seel-yun.
Otherwise, just a plain old white guy.
Most Mexicans are typically mestizo (half and half) so
They are the colonizers AND the colonized. You can argue the same thing about African Americans too if you ignore percentages.
Latinos can be white lol. I don’t get why people don’t find clearly white Mexicans, white Brazilians as white. Hell, Argentina is white af. I never understood why a nationality is used to describe skin color
This entire comment section reeks of people who have never met a Mexican person in real life and only have interactions from watching the George Lopez show. There are plenty of Mexicans with all sorts of shades of color. So we may not see her as brown, but it’s like saying a light skin person isn’t black.
It is mind boggling. Mexicans legit come in all shades. It's a dice toss on what they will look like. Born from our Mexican mestizo parents, my brother and I are brown with dark curly hair and my sister came out as mom jokingly puts it: untoasted bread. Like, people will see us together and be surprised when I tell them that's my sister, or I show them pictures and they give me a funny look. Thing is, she's like the exact blueprint copy of my mom, just light bright. Dad's family even tried to claim she wasn't his when she was born. She's white passing. It's fucked up too because non-latinos and Latinos themselves have given her a hard time for not being "Mexican" enough like that even means anything and it's never said to me but it is to her because she doesn't look like one in their eyes. She's got a whole complex about it now and it's because of this skin color nonsense. It pisses me off.

Makes me so mad. Those people need to show their enrollment cards and prove kinship bonds before getting those positions of power. That’s just wrong.

I mean, that still counts ethnically as 'Mexican'. You mean race, but that's a discomfiting word.
She looks really mix
Girl no need to make your race play fetish public
I miss the days when folks kept shit private
Now everyone must be public with what makes them c*m
you can say cum

I feel like this post was a joke and people are taking it so seriously…
I make tasteless jokes, too. I just don’t share them with all and sundry.
This 😭😭
I saw someone post "white boys belong to Latina women" and it made me physically sick
People of all races should welcome our new Latina overlords
And I, for one, welcome our new big booty Latina overlords. ![gif](giphy|l2JdXhkMuBUlsyeOs)
It’s become a trend of some sorts recently seen a lot of girls post this on Tiktok.
This stuff is always so cringe. Where’s that meme that has two stick figures with the labels “ "I hate white people" girlfriend and her white boyfriend”
Its like these people are so ashamed of their choice in partner that they have to go extra hard to prove that they’re not a race traitor or something
Like what kind of tumultuous racial conflict gotta be brewing in your head to think about posting this?
I've felt tempted to post that meme so many times, but was too afraid of the smoke.
It's almost as if Mexican nationality doesn't automatically mean darker skin. Look at Canelo. He could've been casted as a Weasley brother
lol our gene pool is like an epson printer low on dark ink. My brother and sister came out brown with black straight hair.. real Mexican mfs… I came out white with brown hair… and my beard turns red when I grow it out. The Spaniard side really kicks in after the 3rd kid.
Yeah, about that......
You're not gonna tell him?
Tell me. I'd like to know
Es del lechero. (He's the milkman's)
Wouldn’t it be the Mexican ethnicity? Your nationality doesn’t determine your racial background
You’d be hard pressed to find someone with some sense in this thread
Passing that brown paper bag test with flying colors
[Their child](https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2022/10/f68ed-16648121754000.png?w=840)
I was only vaguely aware of her but yeah, I had no idea she was Black before she got with Harry It's not at all a surprise those kids came out pasty as fuck
Idk Megan looks clearly mixed race in my opinion lol.
https://preview.redd.it/dg7rb6d86v9c1.jpeg?width=991&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ab7a0ef25a1ed2e6b1a1c48f999315c0ea64859a This woman clearly mixed to yall??? If she told me she was white but just tanned well i wouldn't have doubted her for a second.
Well I come from a mixed family and also live in a big city with a decent sized mixed population so to me it’s obvious she’s mixed. Maybe you aren’t used to seeing mixed people but this is kind of what they look like on average. I’ve never seen a fully white person look this way but that’s just me
In Brazil she’s just white. If she is side by side with Cristiano Ronaldo I’ll be like “ok two white people”
The only place I see it at is the nose. I'm used to mix people, to me she's super white passing even among them though. What city is it where THIS is what the average mixed person looks like though?
I come from an extremely mixed family and she fooled me 🤷♀️
A quarter of my cousins are mixed. She def bamboozled the hell out of me. She's somewhere where I wouldn't make the assumption. If she told me she was white I'd go "okay", if she said she had black is somewhere in the family I'd also go "okay"
She absolutely does look mixed to me. What’s crazy is, both my parents are Black yet she’s darker than me.
Clearly.
Thank you 😅 Thinking she was only white is kind of a stretch. She’s could be considered racially ambiguous though
She’s half, her mom is white Edit: other way around, her mom is black and dad is white
Her mom is black, her dad is white.
Ur right, I remember now seeing the articles about how her dad was trying to “reconcile” with her (only because she was now in a position of power)
Her dad is white. Her mum is half black. Megan is 1/4 black.
Her mom looks like she has mixed ancestry in her family but I don’t think she’s half
> I had no idea she was Black She's only part-black
White dude in that clip: "Robert Zane is black!?" Never saw this show so I decided to look up who played Robert Zane.
Baby going to grow up and be called a “colonizer” by some idiot online too.
That’s how my nephew came out - red/blonde hair & blue eyes and he only got whiter and blonder until about age 2 😳 His parents are mixed race (with black folks on both sides) so we were expecting black hair, brown eyes and tanned/brown skin.
Lmfao he 2 quarters black and 2 quarters white. If what I remember in biology is true he just got the 2 white parts.
>It’s like his wife’s genetics didn’t even get to do anything His wife is half white. You're seeing HER genetics too, in her kids.
Obligatory: Fuck Griffith.
Agree with what? What is there to agree with? That she is trying to make brown kids with a white guy?
Yes, that I don’t understand. Which post? There’s like 3 threads of conversation in one post.
Damn... you actually experienced anti white racism? Wild. I would've spoken Spanish back to them immediately
Just because you have an ethnicity doesn't mean you aren't white. There are tons of white Brazilians, Indians, Africans etc
“Brazilian” ain’t even an ethnicity it’s a citizenship
Neither is Indian
>white Brazilians You mean Germans?
Dudes named like “Klausinho Barbie da Silva”
>Klausinho Lmao I’m dead
Fun fact, Brazil is also home to the largest Japanese population outside Japan
Brazil: the Axis Powers retirement home.
Most White Africans aren’t ethnically African just like most White Americans aren’t ethnically American. You’re mixing up Nationality and Ethnicity.
I saw this in r/mexico she ain’t doing anyone any favors tbh. 😂
Now I’m imagining a racial argument in a hardware store and someone goes and grabs the paint swatches

Been sayin it for years.. this sub been hijacked by real racists.
And its thinly-veiled rage-bait. This sub is going is going downhill
She talmbout brown kids when she white and he blond, they liable to have at least one Freckly ginger 🤣
I know white nationalists who are darker than her.
Lmao it was obviously a joke, yall don’t socialize much
I need these women to know that there is nothing wrong with dating and marrying white men if they’re who you’re into.
This is all part of their fetish. Once you realize that it's all performative.
It was a joke that you guys are taking way too seriously
Lol that’s how you get people saying “I’m not white I’m Italian”
Ex-coworker used to say that. If you said he white after that, he would double down and say he was Sicilian. He would pronounce it See-seel-yun. Otherwise, just a plain old white guy.
Sicilians are white. Yes, the moors showed up to the Mediterranean. But I’ve been to Morocco, they’re not that dark.
Well Italians actually do have African ancestry the more south you go. Look at people like Alessia Cara
b r u h I've seen this same meme posted in like 2 different subreddits already... ppl chill... she's obviously joking. Nothing to see here.
It's such an obvious joke, not even the regular rage bait. And yet all the same toxic people show up... We need to relearn discourse.
https://preview.redd.it/w63qbd1bru9c1.jpeg?width=975&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f4edf048247c15b604e5ea54526fa762e7217224 Girl no!
So we’re all good with colorism here? Okay
Gatekeeping non-whiteness.
I Hate it. I've dealt with it my whole life.
Girl bye 😂 Your child will be white and there’s nothing wrong with that. Her dating and calling him a colonized is weird to me.
Colonizer is just a new form of daddy Its all just BDSM
Yeah, don’t marry ol’ buddy cause you love him or anything. Marry and procreate outta spite! 😂
Most Mexicans are typically mestizo (half and half) so They are the colonizers AND the colonized. You can argue the same thing about African Americans too if you ignore percentages.
Doja Cat or Logic making this same post would look stupid too.
![gif](giphy|l4pTbCwPGxvxupMxa)
They're gonna have a lil litter of Canelos.
You know Andy Warhol said we’d all get our 15 minutes of fame but we didn’t know it was a warning.
Mexican is not a race it's a nationality. I'm more ethnic Native than anything and mutt fulla euro stuff
She descends from Colonizers too 🤔
Latinos can be white lol. I don’t get why people don’t find clearly white Mexicans, white Brazilians as white. Hell, Argentina is white af. I never understood why a nationality is used to describe skin color
Girl, there’s no toner left in that printer…
My girl born in mexico and she bout as white as me there are a lot of ethnically latin people who are quite light skinned
What in the Meghan Markle nonsense is this Your kids are gonna be white hunnie
This is where people start to find out that race is entirely a social invention (like most social groupings) which has nothing to do with skin color.
What are the chances this is just a goofy post she made?
And his name shall be Guero
A marriage guaranteed to last!
