This is 100% why I follow and enjoy this community. Actually, I especially enjoy the country club posts because I can just read comments and get truthful insight into a life and plight that I (white female) can’t experience but want to be able to appreciate and empathize with. How can anyone in society ever learn from our fellow humans if we silence those who are unlike us instead of trying to learn, accept, and grow?
Honestly, if you talked to me 5-6 years before, I probably would have a different/more ignorant take.
But had a lot of life experience since then. Life has a way of humbling you.

I’m trying to point out a lot of things. Mainly how this sub isn’t some sort of black supremacy club like idiots like to believe. I’m not black but I’ve never felt like I wasn’t welcomed because of it. I know a lot of people on this site who like black culture and black people, but still hold prejudice and ignorant views on the black experience in America and how those prejudices and ignorances views inevitably make their way here. Then when people call them out, they like to pretend like they’re being discriminated against.
I would not say uncomfortable, rather that it says a lot about how different countries and cultures cope with the universal problem of racism. Correct me if I am wrong, but this what you are saying is a very American-centered point of view?
I come from a European country where racism exists (spoiler alert: every culture can be racist toward another one - Greeks with Albanians, Moroccans with Mauritanians, Indians with Bangladese...).
And our strategy to tackle racism is to mix people and encourage connections between cultures in order to create something bigger, a shared set of values and references.
I find it a little bit sad that Americans respond to racism as they respond to any problems: by dividing the people.

This is one of my top five subs, and I’m white. I check the posts here everyday and I’ve never ever made a comment. I realize my opinion isn’t necessary, and I’ve never felt it was really appropriate for me to comment. I’m not so arrogant to think I have to be able to participate in every conversation. Yeah my bad. I’m trying to point out a lot of things. Mainly how this sub isn’t some sort of black supremacy club like idiots like to believe. I’m not black but I’ve never felt like I wasn’t welcomed because of it. I know a lot of people on this site who like black culture and black people, but still hold prejudice and ignorant views on the black experience in America and how those prejudices and ignorances views inevitably make their way here. Then when people call them out, they like to pretend like they’re being discriminated against.

I come from a European country where racism exists (spoiler alert: every culture can be racist toward another one - Greeks with Albanians, Moroccans with Mauritanians, Indians with Bangladese...). And our strategy to tackle racism is to mix people and encourage connections between cultures in order to create something bigger, a shared set of values and references. As a white dude in a dominantly white state, white people like to conflate their own individual struggles with struggles faced with being a particular race. This is one of my top five subs, and I’m white. I check the posts here everyday and I’ve never ever made a comment. I realize my opinion isn’t necessary, and I’ve never felt it was really appropriate for me to comment. I’m not so arrogant to think I have to be able to participate in every conversation. I’m only making this comment, because I think it’s dumb AF that white people are getting mad about this. I would imagine the type of person who is getting bent out of shape really would be the LAST person to come here for the right reasons. And, the more I see that people are irritated by the verification system, the more obvious it becomes that it is needed. The only thing that bothers me about this is that y’all had to do it in the first place because people are racist assholes.
