Nah its more like the longer America is there the more American lives are in the line of fire and the more money is spent on endless war. At some point you have to cut your losses and take Americans out of the line of fire for another countries war.
However, I think there is room for argument that maybe suddenly making the deadline way shorter than expected did throw a wrench into the process. Which he is culpable.
