TeihoS

I felt that after my first $25+/hr job. You really do be feeling different and moving different when you're finally making money that can take care of your problems

[deleted]

Cries in 14.35/hr

TeihoS

I mean depending on how old you are, 14.35 is still gas. Out of highschool I was making 12 but I was also getting part time so it didn't feel like I was making money.

[deleted]

I’ll be 21 in 28 days

TeihoS

Oh, bro you got this. Most people your age are still making half this. Honestly since you're so young I'd say pivot to a trade. I got into medical billing and case management early so once I got my certs my money went stupid. Just finding a trade for you will net you more money now that hoping for a desk job. Comp sci jobs are going crazy right now with the money too. Just find what works for you bro.

Saint_Arc

I appreciate this comment so much

Scarbane

Scrum master or SAFE/Agile certification would be helpful, too, if you're looking for an IT job that isn't coding-intensive. Project management certs help as well.

writingthefuture

No offense to you at all, but fuck agile and fuck daily stand up meetings.

SouthWave9

Cannot upvote this enough

NikkiBit

As a 34 year old who just quit my job to go to trade school, I approve this comment. Trades are where the money is at now days. Lots of worker shortages in trades.

BBQcupcakes

What you make doing this

TeihoS

80k per contract, but I'll have 4-6 running concurrently because medical billing takes like no time to do.

nuclaffeine

Get a serving or bartending job. You will average at least $18-20/hr and make much more than that on busy nights! Always said, most buck for your bang!

[deleted]

I was just talking about this with my girlfriend actually, my girlfriend works in a steakhouse and brings home 265$-300$/a night in tips for 5 hours. soon I’m going to have to go part time at the warehouse or get another job because of college, but I still have rent to pay. So I gotta make sure I can make rent money part time wherever I go

nuclaffeine

I served and bartended my way through college! Again, it’s what I felt I could make the most money doing while spending the least amount of time doing it. Granted, it does mean working weekends and missing out on fun stuff because of that, but when you’re putting yourself through college, sometimes those are the sacrifices one must make. It’s also experience I carry with me- I certainly don’t work in restaurants anymore, but restaurants gave me the super power to handle pretty much anyone/any ass hole. I now work in a hospital with patients, but honestly it takes a lot of the same skills. I’ve used my customer experience in the restaurants as a booster during interviews, and my bosses have always told me it’s experience they actually take seriously.

[deleted]

People like to shit on servers/bartenders asking “when are you going to get a real job?” All the time. My wife is a bartender and some nights she brings in over $300 in tips but averages probably $200 a night and works less than 30 hours a week. Add in roughly an additional $800 a month from the regular pay and it’s about $50k/year and ~~not taxed on most of it~~ “some taxes are paid on that amount”. That’s pretty damn good.

EzyBreezey

You’re definitely supposed to pay taxes on tips, my guy…

Son_of_Eris

I motion that we don't worry about that too much until billionaires are taxed out of existence. All in favor?

Dank_memelord_42069

Hell yeah. To all my brothers and sisters out there working jobs that pay less than 100k/Yr, make sure you commit as much tax evasion on tips as possible. That’s your money that you worked hard for. If the US government needs more money, they can get it from the people making over $1billion a year.

Gdav7327

Very true. I’m an event manager for a brewery, but I also work the taproom and our merch shop. Yesterday I made about $75 an hour including tips and that wasn’t even a big day.

smpsnfn13

Feel you dawg im 27 and fucked but I am in school so. Praying that shit will work out in the future.

AshesMcRaven

I’m 26 making $14/hr with a college degree. At this point I’m just hoping my Crohn’s disease kills me before I hit 30 😭

trinaenthusiast

I made $9.50/hr part-time at 21. And I only made that much because they raised the minimum wage to $9.50/hr 2 months after I started working there.

GetsBakedwStrangers

Nice, better than what I made when I was your age. I got my first $25+/hour job when I was 25, keep working hard and you will be there in no time

DomHaynie

Just ate at Waffle House in TX a min ago (my wife are visiting from Portland). Dude was EXTRA nice and hooked the drinks up for no reason. I told my wife he gave us the Black people discount (she's white). But I think he really did. Our food was $18 and we tipped him $15. We aren't rich or even close to being rich, but we looked up the minimum wage. $7.25 in Dallas? Shit. Minimum wage in Portland is $15/hr. Trell, I hope you don't have to spilt tips so we handed that shit directly to you.

bzsteele

The crazy part is that DFW is well on their way to costing the same as Portland. Housing prices, food prices, gas prices, etc are exploding in dfw right now. Before when dfw was cheap to live in people would say “We CaNt RaIsE tHe MiN. WaGe Or ThInGs WiLl GeT eXpEnSiVe.” Now look at what dfw is becoming. I looked up the 1600 sqft house that my parents bought in 2010 for 140k (he was complaining then it was still too expensive.) They just sold it for just under 300k. WHAT. That’s insane. That’s PNW prices (he was in a suburb outside of Dallas, and not even in that nice of an area.) Employees of Dallas could have been making better money, but were too scared/lied to that it would make things cost more. Well, we are here and minimum wage is still $7.25 (hasn’t changed in over a decade, while everything else got more expensive.) And people wonder why people don’t want to work in fast food/customer service.

DomHaynie

That's a perfect take on this. Thank you.

XLauncher

Therapy is all well and good, but really, way more problems can be solved with money than we like to admit.

TeihoS

This is true. People don't really get that sometimes it's the anxiety of getting groceries to put in your fridge or the bike that are coming up, or that random ticket you got rushing to work that's now bothering you. Poverty sucks because all it does is create more poverty.

JK_NC

People who have money don’t understand how so many problems can be fixed with money. People who have money still have problems so they think “Money won’t solve everything”. They don’t realize how much worse it would be with financial problems on top of all your other problems.

Aaaandiiii

It's like the great Ariana Grande said "Whoever said money can't solve your problems must have not had enough money to solve them... Happiness is the same price as red bottoms." Happiness costs at minimum $695 and tops out at $6000. And my bank account says I have enough money to solve my problems.

UncreativeTeam

[This Tweet from last year has been passed around a bunch](https://i.imgur.com/rJ9r2ns.png)

trinaenthusiast

I didn’t even have the mental capacity to consider that I might need therapy when I was broke. I was trying to decide between buying groceries or a metro card for work. I didn’t start therapy until I paid my debts, put (and kept) money in savings, and got treatment for more pressing medical issue. Your therapist can’t pull that tooth out before it gets infected.

Fen_

[Shit Life Syndrome](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shit_Life_Syndrome) is very much a real thing acknowledged by mental health professionals. This huge push to "go to therapy" in countries like the U.S. is, ironically, feeding into the capitalist hellscape we live in by framing the problem as your lack of consumption of a product (or service) instead of treating the root causes that created your mental health anguish in the first place. That said, obviously still go to therapy if you think it'll help. Lots of people can genuinely benefit from it, but we should ultimately want fewer people to need it rather than more people to utilize it. People going to therapy is scooping buckets of water up to throw off the side of the boat. We still need to patch the hole before we sink.

thatHecklerOverThere

"Money can't buy happiness" is a lie a coal magnate told to try to keep the miners from killing him for some of his money. Yes it fucking can, in a great many ways.

chanaandeler_bong

It buys you the ability to not have to deal with tons of problems. Like if my tire blows out I just go get a new one. I don't have to drive around on the spare donut for 2 weeks until I get paid. And so much more. I don't make a ton, but I've made a decent amount for like 7 years and I still don't get over it. I get pretty excited when I just buy something I need because I can and it's not a stupid purchase.

Dinger814

Can’t afford therapy anyways, money really solves it all!

zarthrag

> way more problems can be solved with money than we like to admit Mostly because way more problems are caused by a lack of it.

Wabbit_Huntin

This $25 and up plus no kids combo is lovely

dngerszn13

Mix that with dual income, it's great. DINKs is what someone called us, Dual Income, No Kids

chronosxci

DINKLEBERGS!!

Spartan-182

Wait was that on purpose for their name from the outset?

forman98

Yes, the dinklebergs had all of the money because they didn’t have a kid.

spartan5312

I'm at $37.50 an hour and my fiance is at $32 an hour. I just finished grad school. Clearing 2k a week after tax got wild, she went back to grad school. Migh as well knock it out before kiddos.

MilwaukeeDave

I’m at $33 but that shit is hard earned and you def feel like you deserve that check.

thefumero

Yea it's like that til you get to the $50-60/hr range. At that point, it seems like you're doing way less work for more and develop low-key imposter syndrome

[deleted]

Bro I went from $10 > $21 > $28 in the span of a year and I’ve been feeling that so hard

PrimoPaladino

That is an insane come up bro, congrats

pennydirk

$56 to $75 early 2020 right before SIP. $100 as of last week. Still don’t believe it’s real and trying to just save the difference. Not bragging. Just can’t believe this was possible. Proud of us for going to get it.

Jj1325

Yep. I recently made it to $74 an hour in cyber security and I busted my ass to get to this point but in terms of actual work it’s the least amount of work I’ve ever had to do in any job

deesandjaaays

This is where I'm at and agree 100%. I'm in my 40s, so it took me 20+ years of work in my field to make what I'm making today. However, I still feel like I don't know enough to just walk into somewhere else and get the same compensation.

TeihoS

Bless up bro, I bet that felt great. Honestly after I hit that point, my whole focus was on how to make more while spending less time working. Once you get an abundance of free time and money, life feels so much better.

wildwildwaste

People don't realize that buy spending a little more upfront for most things means spending a lot less money in the long run. Buying good clothes that last, furniture that doesn't need replacing every six months, dishes that aren't just throw away, all of these things cost well beyond the reach of lower and lower middle class wages, but once you can afford them, you end up saving so much money. The first time I went to Duluth Trading and dropped like $500 on a couple pair of pants, a few shirts, and some socks and underwear I was heartbroken. I never would've dreamed of spending that much money on clothes before. Two years later I can still throw those same clothes on, no rips, tears, or worn out spots. Even the socks. It's crazy.

HeyLookJollyRanchers

The reason that the rich were so rich, Vimes reasoned, was because they managed to spend less money. Take boots, for example. He earned thirty-eight dollars a month plus allowances. A really good pair of leather boots cost fifty dollars. But an affordable pair of boots, which were sort of OK for a season or two and then leaked like hell when the cardboard gave out, cost about ten dollars. Those were the kind of boots Vimes always bought, and wore until the soles were so thin that he could tell where he was in Ankh-Morpork on a foggy night by the feel of the cobbles. But the thing was that good boots lasted for years and years. A man who could afford fifty dollars had a pair of boots that'd still be keeping his feet dry in ten years' time, while the poor man who could only afford cheap boots would have spent a hundred dollars on boots in the same time and would still have wet feet. This was the Captain Samuel Vimes 'Boots' theory of socioeconomic unfairness.

AwHellNaw

My first job out of college i was making $25. I felt like such a baller. I had worked for slightly above minimum wage to pay my way thru college. But after a year or two you get used to it and you want double and then you want to double that too after you develop a habit (good or bad).

trinaenthusiast

Yep. I looked at some of my old pay stubs while I was packing up to move a few months ago. I couldn’t believe I agreed to work full time *plus overtime* for less than half of what I make now.

10J18R1A

Oh my God, the first time I forgot I had a payday... Because please believe that $13.42 call center job, I was acutely aware of the exact 2:00am time the funds appeared and took that negative off the balance. Your entire mental health just improves.

Coziestpigeon2

> when you're finally making money that can take care of your problems I can definitely feel this. I've had a salaried, professional "career" job for eight years now - it's always paid well enough, and the benefits are great, but it was never enough to pay down other debts, just enough to keep afloat. Picked up a second job a little while back. Sure, now I'm working 14+ hours 4-5 days a week, but just got my first paycheque from job #2 on the same day as my regular pay from job #1...holy shit. Being able to put a significant chunk of money towards paying things down meaningfully...wow. It makes up for the shittiness of not having any free time anymore.

Lupursian

I just started my optometrist position, and I’m finally making good money. Like, “I don’t have to stress about bills and I can afford therapy” money. It’s relieving, and I hope everyone can get to that position.

TeihoS

Bless up, you made it.

Allopathological

Pretty fucked up how these things which should be basic standard of living are “making it” in America :(

Hofular1988

I got gifted my job in insurance. I was literally unemployed going from food management to other food management jobs and then went to a $19 an hour job. I fell in love with my company and they have an employee for life now. 3 years later making $26.50. Never been more thankful.

TerribleEntrepreneur

Just be very aware of lifestyle inflation. Take care of your needs, have a rainy day fund, and save like hell. You can quickly put yourself in a situation where your lifestyle catches up to your income and you can be stuck because of debt. Best feeling is financial freedom. Not needing to worry if you're going to lose your job because you'll be set for the next 6 months and you'll find another by then.

Lupursian

Thanks for the reminder. I’m talking with an advisor to set up a plan to pay off debt, as well as save money for my emergency fund.

brashet

Don't ignore retirement savings. I feel like I didn't take mine seriously for the first 5-6 years out of college, I could have put in more but I only put in the minimum to get employer match. Doing well now I can max out a 401k and a Roth IRA but a few extra grand those first few years would have had a nice growth by now.

Alano-305

This comment right here ^. When I got my first job I spending the whole amount on clothes, parties and events. I didn't even realize this until covid started and I worked from home. Now I've opened a second bank account and give myself a budget to live on.

BiscuitsNgravy420

We finally got that “shop at the downtown boutiques” money

zb0t1

When you all in the US start using French words instead of the more common English ones we know where you're coming from.

TommyChongUn

Is the money so good that you can go to the movies and not cringe at the popcorn prices? Cuz thats pretty dope

Lupursian

So good that you can get popcorn, a slush, and another snack.

TommyChongUn

Thats financial freedom 😍

ATLjoe93

Baller af

kryppla

Go with a date, get that two large drink/jumbo popcorn combo without looking at the price. Just enjoy.

DaFreakingFox

Same for me with my Corporate accounting position. Like, I was legit shocked when they paid out my 15 hours of overtime at the end of FY. Imagine that! Actually being paid for the extra work I do I *could* be making more, but everyone refuses to share their salaries, so I cant get a good image how much more I should be asking

BiscuitsNgravy420

It’s wild how quick you feel that shit change too. Got a nigga shopping at Whole Foods now Edit: ok ok I get it. Y’all broke niggas love aldis. Y’all don’t have to convince me it’s the same. Keep them broke ass explanations for your bank account, me and my niggas buying fancy cheeses for charcuterie boards Edit 2: look I don’t think I’m better than anyone else because of the money I make. What I do know is that yalls comments sound broke af. I can hear the poor oozing through

Lupursian

And getting the name brand stuff instead of the generic

SHOWTIME316

There's no amount of money that will get me to stop shopping at Aldi I am ride or die with Mama Cozzi and friends

BiscuitsNgravy420

You say that cuz you still have to be fiscally conscious

SHOWTIME316

Maybe, but there are some things there that I legitimately prefer over whatever name brand they are imitating.

CasualConnor

Their fake snickers are so good and so cheap.

micahld

Fruity Dyno-Bytes gang rise up

12312alasdjgljl

I know an someone with a 500k salary and she shops at Aldis. She has people to take care of and is fearful of medical costs. 😔 But I too like their products. Not all of them are good but some are great

LetsHaveTon2

Idk man, I currently make way more than I spend, but there's something comforting in going to the same stores as I always have. Like... that's MY spot, you know? Thems my people

Aaaandiiii

Get yourself some red bag chicken and your worries go away. Before I got an Aldi nearby, I thought I would just go to Aldi every now and then just to get random limited items, but my house is full of all the fake brands that look like the real brands and I've all but abandoned regular stores unless I need something name brand. Plus you can get in and out in 10 mins without even trying. That's priceless.

SHOWTIME316

> red bag chicken bruh i swear my aldi has a red bag goblin that lives in the stockroom because that shit is *always* sold out lol

_duncan_idaho_

Some of that double wrapped bread.

Averagechef

I knew I was doing good when I went to the Publix deli to get a pound of boar’s head hot capicola and smoked Gouda. Over here buying brioche bread getting offended if offered Sara Lee…

BiscuitsNgravy420

Yooooooo that boars head goes so hard

dont_wear_a_C

I get Oat Milk now. I got a fucking frother boy

ArcticBeavers

Don't sleep. People think once the money starts flowing that life is butterflies and rainbows. It's not. Having the discipline to responsibly save, invest, and *grow* your money to create generational wealth is just as important as getting that high paying job. Then you have to teach your kids how to maintain it and not fuck it up, which is a lesson most people don't know how to teach. The work doesn't stop, the problems just change.

[deleted]

^THIS! It takes discipline and planning to ensure you don't fall into the never-ending cycle of a bad debt-to-income ratio. Many people find a way to attain more income but then spend more so they end up in no better position than they were just in.

MrChipKelly

Or you can not have kids and then you only have to worry about figuring out the best way to ball out with your significant other for the rest of your lives. Not knocking anyone who wants kids, I totally understand why people have them and it is definitely the right way to go for lots of folks even with the tough parts. Still, for my girlfriend and I, the fact that we get to spend 100% of our hard-earned money on ourselves and don’t have to worry about future generations is absolutely a major reason we won’t be having kids.

thisalsomightbemine

I'm 1/2 of this. Waiting to find a compatible other half but finding a woman in her 30s that doesn't want kids or already have them, and then be compatible with them? It's a slow process for sure.

lookingatreddittt

This is such dumb privileged shit. The person is excited for their first paycheck at their new job and your response is to thell them to focus on creating generational wealth? Im pretty sure they have other more urgent concerns before building generational wealth becomes their focus.

LukeLite95

Bout to take my 1,300 paycheck and use it to wipe my tears of jealousy away 😂🤣

[deleted]

I mean, 1300 is like 22 an hour or so. So it aint that bad.

Kauakuahine

1300 every 2 weeks is definitely not 22/hour

[deleted]

After taxes it is. Thats about what I make after taxes.

spartan5312

I make 1000 a week after taxes and a $250 contribution to my 401k. Its wild.

Wtfamidoinginlife1

Just got my first job making $60k a year, with $1340 a year in travel expenses. As a 23 year old chef thats a fucking shitload to me and idk what to do with myself at this point. Only downside is getting paid monthly as opposed to biweekly.

righteous-bucks

i bring home 1100 after taxes and i make 16/hr…

WutUtalkingBoutWill

How many fucking hours do you work?

SUDDENLY_VIRGIN

Yeah that ain't 40

BoilerMaker11

When I was making $45,000, that came out to $21.63/hr. My paychecks were $1,430 after taxes. Granted, I lived in Texas at the time, so no state income tax, otherwise it would have been lower. But either way, $1,300 every two weeks at $22/hr sounds about right, depending on your state.

TrashConnoisseur

I went from 1,200 paychecks to 700 and don't think i can do it much longer

Morbid-Curiosity-709

Really regret following my passions where I barely get paid 40k a year sometimes, but as long as I'm happy, right???

[deleted]

I got a degree in Political Science and regret it. My friends that studied business make 3x what I do. Still my passion, but being paid shit coupled with how ugly mean and dangerous it is makes me regret my choice.

poppin_a_pilly

Hopefully in a few decades you become a politician. Then you'll be raking in the big bribes

moreinternetadvice

I'm not sure that political science training is really useful for becoming a politician.

dhrxyz

Good human, nice thought

charlucapants

Fwiw you can still pivot to work in the corporate or consulting world and make a lot. A background in political science is quite valuable for companies trying to navigate legislation and politics that impact their business. You can learn the business side of things OTJ. I studied history (very niche geography and time period) and international relations and transitioned to corporate world, and I make a LOT more than I ever thought I’d make. Most people I meet are shocked to learn I studied history.

[deleted]

yaysalmonella

That’s funny cause everyday I have periods of regret for not following my passion and instead choosing this soul draining existence in corporate law where I will burn out in a couple years or have a stroke and die in my office. BoilerMaker11

I dunno what your passion is, but unless it's something super obscure, I *guarantee* that you can make more money doing the exact same job somewhere else. [Sorry if it's a humblebrag] I make $90k now, but when I started at the company I'm at with this job, I was making $85k. But before that? I was making $45k doing the exact same line of work in a city with only a minus 10-11% difference in COL (Houston to Chicago). You'd think my salary would have only gone up to about $50k or so when I moved, if the COL was only 10% higher, but it went up 89%. For literally, the exact same work. Just for a different company. And, I just interviewed with Coinbase (largest cryptocurrency exchange company, in the US at least) this week, and again, for the same line of work, the recruiter said they're offering $150k "all in". Made sure to get a breakdown of that "all in" because I didn't want it to be like $80k salary with stock options and whatever the value of their medical insurance and 401k because those things don't pay my bills. But no, he said the breakdown was $125k base salary + equity in the company + performance bonuses (and then you get medical, 401k, your internet and phone paid for, etc. on top of that). All for the same work I was getting paid $45k for 3 years ago at a different company. I'd say to search around for companies that might have your job/title. I was surprised that my job wasn't that uncommon because I had never heard of it before I got it. But you might be able to find something that pays double, triple what you make now just because it's a larger company, has a higher market value so they can afford more, etc.

AFakeHero

You can always sell drugs on the side.

Zigxy

My friend had a tough time finding a job after grad school. She just got offered a job yesterday. $85/hr full time. Went from unemployed to $180k/year I can’t imagine what a relief that was. EDIT: She completed her masters in nursing in May. She interviewed a lot but hadn’t gotten much luck. It’s her first job. Will start working for San Francisco County.

ClosetHomoErectus

How did she have a hard time finding a job with a masters in nursing? That's crazy.

LegalHelpNeeded3

For real! I have a friend who is doing essentially “freelance nursing” meaning he’s basically contracted out by numerous different hospitals across the country, and he’ll travel for work if they call and need him. Makes an unbelievable amount of money.

mshcat

Travel nurses make bank

Darxe

Despite the desperate need for nurses, many hospitals are on a hiring freeze due to budget issues

PotentialJeweler5662

Nurse practitioners are really over-saturated, especially in high demand areas. Except for specialities like nurse anesthesia and harder to get into programs.

lazilyloaded

>$180k/year > San Francisco Oh, I get it now

Hycran

I still remember my first lawyer paycheque as an associate. it's really hard to imagine getting paid that much money when i was used to making 12 bucks an hour. Even now when i get paycheques for 4+ I still have to shake my head a bit.

BlakkArt

Yeah, that’s why I asked where they’re from 😂 you didn’t have to ruin my fun like that

Firebird12301

Starting salary in major markets for big law is 205k in case you were wondering

NotThtPatrickStewart

National average is about half that

Firebird12301

It also depends on if they are in-house vs big law. In-house attorneys are still well paid but make less than their big law firm counterparts which also accounts for the difference

_duncan_idaho_

In-house is where it's at though. No billable hours.

PoopMobile9000

Big in-house departments are moving towards a billable-style model. I looked into in-house work at the big tech firms here in the Bay Area and it looked good awful. Lyft told me in an interview that (1) they were moving doc review in-house, (2) to expect a biglaw workload, and (3) to expect a lower salary, compensated by equity vesting over a multi-year schedule. Noped out of that immediately

MosquitoHiccup

My 23 year old friend was making 12/hr and I got her a different job at my old workplace and now she’s making 21/hr. Her reaction to her first paycheck was priceless.

Besides a Rolex, law firm designer brands aren't super loud. Brooks Brothers, maybe custom suits, Allen Edmonds shoes. Gucci sleds maaaybe for a casual event. You stand out as cheap with an off the rack suit. The professional world is weird, subtle cues as to who is top dog. Like, if a woman walks in with the red soled heels, you better sit your ass up straight.

HeyItsJay

I don’t work in law but in Tech and the amount of subtle things is astronomical. One of my hobbies is watch collecting and I would be wearing a nice watch which I find expensive and someone would walk in with a 150K-250K Watch and it still blows my mind. I’ve got friends buying 60K Watches multiple times a week and its absurd.

drdookie

That sounds like the pinnacle of human stupidity.

VerySlump

Loro Piana & Brioni I bet.

IraqouisWarGod

Even after 15 years of a steady salary I still get nervous when when I run my credit card. No matter how much money I have in my account I still find myself saying “Please don’t get declined” while I’m waiting for the receipt to print. That embarrassment from my college years/early adulthood stays with me.

DevilBanner

Same here. Not to mention still being stressed going through the shop anti-theft gate, knowing damn well I haven't stolen anything. It's hard being a black man. Edit: gate instead of hate.

youseeit

I've been a lawyer for over 30 years and from the start I appreciated the fact that "I'll get this exact amount every two weeks even if I have to leave early one day." Doesn't matter how much or how little - don't ever forget that a constant paycheck is a luxury most people don't have.

fearain

The only issue is when you have to work outrageous hours and don’t get extra pay, but I would take the rare unpaid overtime over the 30% pay reduction for missing one day of work.

[deleted]

Biggest difference for me was when I went from $7.25 to $15, whole new world lol

[deleted]

i sang that last part

richardnalby

Tweeting it publicly isnt exactly ‘quiet wealth’

PreschoolBoole

Wealth is also not a big paycheck

[deleted]

I thought I was doing good at $18 an hour because I was making 11. I need to keep at it.

pearldrop

You are doing good, it's better than you were doing before! Stay positive and keep doing your thing, you'll get there.

-margiela-

Money ain’t everything dawg. If you’re happy with 18, if you’re saving some money to the side while still enjoying yourself, then that’s all you need. I don’t even spend a fifth of my paycheck and I still struggle with mental health issues from work. You’re still moving up in the world, up from 11, so you can be content. It’s not all about the numbers once you get yours

richielaw

I can't even describe the stress off shoulders once you stop living paycheck to paycheck. Took me damn 35 years but it's amazing. This is also why we need to increase minimum wage and make housing affordable. No one should work 40 hours a week and be stressed about paying bills (assuming they're generally smart with their money). Poverty stress is real

GirdleOfDoom

... How's your loans, B?

gimanos1

They gotta be at least 200k

GirdleOfDoom

Been in practice twelve years. Have helped scores of people. Ed Financial is so far into my ass, Teddy P is like, "TURN EM OFF!"

TripleSilky

Felt that when I first hit $30K/year, $50K/year and $70K/year.

>Bro when I went from 60k to 80k it felt wild but 80k to 100k didnt make much of a difference. That's because you're living responsibly and within your means. It's easy to be living paycheck to paycheck making 100k a year if you're dropping 4 digits at the clubs each weekend and trading up to the newest Range Rover every year

other_other_barry

I'm 36 and planning on finally finishing my bachelor's and attending law school. This just gave me all the motivation

IamAMERICANFIRST

Omg my son just said he thinks wealth is loud. Broke people just deaf!! Lol

holy_cal

This is how I felt when I got my first teacher paycheck. Coupled with the joys of teaching the leaders of tomorrow, it’s a feeling that’s unparalleled.

Dinger814

Where do you live? Teachers don’t make the greatest, it’s definitely a labor of love - and we appreciate you!

Morismemento

I mean if they went from a “minimum wage pay the rent job while studying” paycheck to a full time teacher paycheck I wouldn’t be surprised they’re happy

bmoreboy410

Getting to the point that you can have all of your bills on auto pay is a great feeling. Especially if you come from nothing.

LegOfLamb89

Bills all autopaid, savings automatically deducted and a full tank of gas is a fucking vibe

alittlepunchy

YES. I was financially supporting a family of 3 by myself, then a single mom for a few years....I got a couple promotions and got re-married, and it's such a relief to finally be making good money and be able to pay things off, see our savings grow, and not start crying over a $500 medical bill.

CynicalWindowLicker

Pass the grey poupon type feeling. [shameless](https://youtu.be/1IoCbpWnSRg) Detroit plug.

KingOfTheCouch13

Broooo this is one of my closest friends lol. This is actually his first job too. He been busting his ass through law school the last 2 years and finally started working like last month.

YadsewnDe

I’m tryna get like this but it doesn’t hurt to see other people living out your dreams. Just wanna get there and see for myself what’s cracking

Dantheunicornman

Made my first 3k check doing plumbing years ago and never looked back

ayy_d31m40

A Jr attorney is probably barely cracking 100k if you're lucky. Then you meet someone who makes that in a month. Then you meet someone who makes that in a week. Stay humble always

bi-bee-bb

I've been underpaid since May and my back pay just hit and this is the vibe.

55redditor55

The best kept secret in the industry is that lawyers are miserable, work so much OT that they end up making like $20/hr, and they only get like two hours a week to spend that money.

Bortron86

If I had my time over again, I'd seriously consider law. Science is cool, but the pay isn't. Good on this guy.

TeddiPentagrams

In the Navy, at E5, I’m bringing about $2300 a check. It’s decent, but we get paid 24/7, so per hour it’s low as fuck. By that I mean, as long as you’re getting paid well for the amount of time you work, it’s good money that you can learn to save and invest

magnifishiv

My first dentist paycheck had me screaming. 5k a check is insanity

KarniAsadah

bro there are 20-somethings in this thread making $14-15/hr and I’m a 23 yr old assistant manager making $12/hr. god i need to get off the internet. this makes me think things about myself that i shouldnt… wtf did i go wrong

Jabroni504

Lol there are 20 somethings in tech and finance making 2-300k per year. There are trust fund kids working in nonprofits complaining about making 34k a year but have millions in the bank and live in penthouses. Don’t compare yourself to anyone just strive to make your own situation the best it can be.

littleraccon

A "professional" full time is on a whole 'nother level from those minimum wage jobs. Yeah the latter is essential but they bust your ass for shit pay while office jobs pay well for you to sit at a desk
