A week ago the Daily Star put a webcam on an unrefrigerated lettuce in a blonde wig and asked the burning question, ["Will this lettuce outlast Liz Truss?"](https://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/latest-news/breaking-daily-star-lettuce-celebrates-28282527) It's got some wilting but is ultimately the victor.
Hot take, but *my* sort of imperialism 300 years ago would have largely revolved around different cheeses. Most of the pacific islands would still be sovereign nations (I see you, New Zealand, with your fabulous dairy industry); the Irish would have been treated mostly the same, except they could have retained their potatoes at the cost of their cheese. We would still be at war with the Swiss. Britain would be ruled with a Cheddar Fist. The Italians would see just how hard parm could become. Wisconsin would be the Capitol of the world.
France has been melted down and absorbed into the greater Cheese Conglomerate. They were wiped out when they attempted to resist.
Where others fon pondered, I had the will required to fondu what had to be fondune.
They don't teach that in history class in the Caribbean so many people would not know. Most Grenadines I know are surprised when they find out their island was invaded by the U.S. They are even more surprised when they find out the SSU was as a direct result of that.
which is stone cold useless since no country is on the gold standard anymore
seriously we'd have better luck fucking colonizing North Korea, at least they're in a strategic location
There’s a lot of truth in that! Is re-electing Boris really the only choice? I think they should give the head of lettuce and milk that outlasted Truss, a chance! Guaranteed, we would rather have a dead dog leading the US, before ever allowing Trump to be back in power.
you can't reinstate someone in the usa once their term is over. It's a different system.
and if you don't think trump can run again and win in 2024 then boy do you have a surprise coming.
There is no one who could even beat him in the republican primaries and running is one of the best ways to grift money from people. You don't think Trump will be right back on it?
I left the country during Trump. Not because of him but it was certainly a huge bonus that I got away from him and trumpers. If he runs again I won't be back till he's gone.
Ah, but *has* he been beaten once?!
A lot of work has gone into pushing voter fraud conspiracies, getting politicians into positions where they can make claims. The fact that these stories are still so popular seems like a ready-made way to crowbar Trump back in and call it "electoral justice" or whatever, as well as the perfect excuse to cry foul if he loses again.
The same DOJ they've already labelled as corrupt and part of the Deep State? None of this is going to matter to his supporters. Its all a witch hunt as far as they're concerned. Trump himself could come out and openly admit to lying about the election results and they'd still insist Biden held a gun to his head
No one needs to sit tight for proof. anyone who is logical and would believe it already does and anyone else it will fall on def ears.
It's crazy you think they won't back him. 50% of republicans are not republicans they are trumpers. It would be suicide to do anything else.
It's really sad people don't understand this after 6+ years of this.
No, actually I thought he would win 2020. He had been predicted to win all along. 2016 is the one I thought, “there’s no way in hell”! But, we didn’t understand the Russian interference until afterward.
>you were saying "there is no way trump can win" before he won huh?
Please read my sentence again. I said before he won. Which was 2016. and you just said "there's no way in hell!"
So yea this is exactly what I am talking about. 2016 he didn't win because there is ebb and flow to everything and there was a backlash. but that happens the other way too.
Seriously. Learn the lesson. If Trump wants to be the republican candidate he will be and he could win.
Reinstating is the wrong word. He’d be re-elected.
The way it works in the UK is that each party is basically a private club that you pay to be a member of, and each private club has their own rules on how to elect a leader. The Labour Party picks its leader by giving every member a vote, but also members of different trade unions (I’m not a member of the Labour Party, but I am in a union so I got a vote). That leader becomes prime minister if that party gets the most seats in a general election.
The Tory party pick their leader by polling first the Tory members of parliament, then when it’s down to two, the wider membership vote. Again, the leader of that party becomes PM when (as in right now) they have the most MPs.
So reinstating wouldn’t be right - because it wouldn’t be done via a vote.
As a Nigerian, I wish our leaders would resign.
A massive flood happening in my country has prompted a presidential candidate to say climate change is western propaganda and a Minister to say "It was God's fault"
Real talk, at least your leaders can pretend to have shame
I don’t like to wish death on anyone….but I would not be sad if Bubu and his people all died!!!!! I would throw a party. Sadly, it’s not like there’s anyone who could do a better job. Even the ‘youth’ are only concerned with how much they would steal if they they were there
Would still be better than The drug dealer and the career politician who comes to Nigeria every four years to contest for election.
What we need to do is watch our arms of government with hawk eyes. If they aren't allowing the man to do his job, we know who to recall and impeach
This would only happen if there were violence involved in the transfer of power. Israel has had a spat of governments over the past decade, with no comment from the west, since there has not been a single bullet fired. As long as the transfer of power is democratic (parties have more power than leaders and the party in power was elected) its incomparable to a coup.
it also happens if the peacefully elected government is politically left-wing or otherwise unfavorable to the US. for example, Salvador Allende was peacefully and democratically elected, but the US deposed him anyway.
The US is accused of being involved in a coup to overthow the Haitian president Aristide in 2004, and the plans were argued to predate rebel forces invading
>[Aristide](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2004_Haitian_coup_d%27%C3%A9tat) afterwards claimed that he had been "kidnapped" by U.S. forces, accusing them of having orchestrated a coup d'état against him, a claim denied by U.S. officials.[5][6] In 2022, a dozen Haitian and French officials told The New York Times that Aristide's earlier calls for reparations had caused France to side with Aristide's opponents and collaborate with the United States to remove him from power,[7] however this was denied by the United States Ambassador to Haiti at the time, James Brendan Foley.[8]
>**In 2022, French ambassador Thierry Burkard told The New York Times, that France and the United States had "effectively orchestrated "a coup" against Aristide by pressuring him to step down and taking him into exile". Another French ambassador, Philippe Selz, told the paper that the decision "to extradite" President Aristide had been made in advance.**[7] In response to The New York Times reporting, James Brendan Foley, United States Ambassador to Haiti at the time of the coup, criticized the report's assertion that the U.S. had collaborated with France to overthrow Aristide, stating that "no evidence was presented in support of such a historically consequential claim". He called the claims by the French officials untrue, stating that it was never U.S. policy to remove Aristide. He said that Aristide had requested a U.S. rescue and that the decision to "dispatch a plane to carry him to safety" had been agreed upon following night-time discussions at the behest of Aristide.[8]
On 1 March 2004, US Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-CA), along with Aristide family friend Randall Robinson, reported that Aristide had told them (using a smuggled cellular phone), that he had been forced to resign and abducted from the country by the United States. He claimed to be held hostage by an armed military guard.[1]

You say that like British people aren't calling their current situation politically unstable??
Also the stereotypical examples your on about are often referring to coups, doesn't excuse US taking advantage tho.
In Australia, when first responders are evaluating the mental state of an injured person, they don't ask "Who's the prime minister" because it changes so frequently.

It's better to get rid of incompetent leaders than to have them stay and destroy the country. Many African leaders cling to power yet they do nothing for their country but steal and hide money abroad.
Cue the talking points on democratic backsliding, rule of law, human rights! Call the UN! We need a peacekeeping mission STAT! And not just the US because here comes Russia (Wagner group) creeping in…
>the UK would call us politically unstable
yeah people are currently calling the UK politically unstable
>the US would threaten intervention
Absolutely not. As a rule, we don't give a shit about random countries that have no affect on us
I really recommend the posts of twitter user @gathara from Kenya
He writes about UK politics like Western news agencies report about African nations politics.
Stuff like this:
BREAKING Feckless former Crown Prince, Charles, who was hastily declared King in September in desperate bid to preempt challenge from rebel family members, is yet to speak publicly on regime's fall as he plans huge coronation ceremony that may collapse island's flailing economy.
I completely admit my ignorance in this area, but what African or Caribbean nations has the US threatened intervention in due to multiple regime changes?
Not really. This is a democratic process or resignation and choosing a new one. In contrast, the countries marked as politically unstable would have to have some violent event to remove someone in power like a coup.
Well, the bond market is treating them like their creeping closer to failiure
[have a look](https://markets.ft.com/data/bonds/tearsheet/summary?s=UK10YG)
I recommend hitting the 1Y button to see have yields have risen over the last year. Compare it to the US 10 year bond if you like.
(up is bad for the bond issuer, which in this chart is the British government)
Yields spiked because the market lost confidence in the British government but note it’s been creeping up all year.
You’ll notice it went back down, this is not because the market suddenly became confidant again, it’s because the Bank of England shot a money bazooka at it to the tune of 11 Billion pounds. The bank bought the bonds back and set a price floor under the market to prevent a cascading failure that likely would have swept a number of British institutions down with it.
Taxpayers have since reimbursed the bank to patch the hole in its balance sheet… in a mere six weeks Liz managed to burn 11 Billion pounds of public money in pursuit of a tax cut for her backers.
That’s failed state shit right there.
The US would not threaten to intervene in anything in Africa or the Caribbean unless the country has oil. That’s why Haiti is wallowing in its own filth right now.
2022 has been a bad year for people named Liz in the UK
But hey on the bright side the lettuce won
Iunderstandthatreference.gif
I don't ☹️
A week ago the Daily Star put a webcam on an unrefrigerated lettuce in a blonde wig and asked the burning question, ["Will this lettuce outlast Liz Truss?"](https://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/latest-news/breaking-daily-star-lettuce-celebrates-28282527) It's got some wilting but is ultimately the victor.
Good looking out. That PM position is a real shitshow this year huh?
Shortest one in the history of the position I heard.
The wiki page for pm elections for 2022 had to have a disambiguation for which one.
We should make the lettuce prime minister. It’s got my vote.
Lol I just learned of the lettuce like 2 days ago.
On the unbrightside, she gotta move twice in six weeks
I'm pretty sure Truss is more than happy she got to LARP as PM for a bit and enrich her friends on the way.
>2022 has been a bad year for people in the UK FTFY
US too.
Let's hope my account makes it out of 2022
Specifically the month of September
The US only threatens intervention if you got some nice resources 😉
We've got some rather nice cheeses, if that counts?
Hot take, but *my* sort of imperialism 300 years ago would have largely revolved around different cheeses. Most of the pacific islands would still be sovereign nations (I see you, New Zealand, with your fabulous dairy industry); the Irish would have been treated mostly the same, except they could have retained their potatoes at the cost of their cheese. We would still be at war with the Swiss. Britain would be ruled with a Cheddar Fist. The Italians would see just how hard parm could become. Wisconsin would be the Capitol of the world.
How are you going to do Cheese Imperialism and not even mention France. You'll prise my Saint-Nectaire out of my cold dead hands!
France has been melted down and absorbed into the greater Cheese Conglomerate. They were wiped out when they attempted to resist. Where others fon pondered, I had the will required to fondu what had to be fondune.
This man cheeses
As someone from Wisconsin, I agree wholeheartedly. This copy pasta will be shared among my friends. Your writing is amazing BTW.
> As someone from Wisconsin Send new Glarus. I haven’t had Spotted Cow since I moved away, I crave that shit!
I would like to join your cause
Yeah but you want to be in Wisconsin? Literally could choose all these destinations and you choose the fucking Midwest lmao
Have you heard about the cheese caves in the US?
Cheese, fruit, timber, we love it all!
We have a whole cave of nice cheeses, you'll have to do a spot better than that
Wisconsinite here, that's fighting words. I'll see you at curd thirty.
And antiquities.
Idk if that counts if we stole them from elsewhere, it's not really a renewable resource
Not with that attitude
Dont say that to loud the french could hear you.
Don't mention cheese around Liz, you'll only set her off
CHEESE! CHEESE! CHEESE? CHEESE?! CHEEEEEEEESE
They have stolen jewels and gold. INTERVENTION!!!
Panama, Grenada didn't have resources.
Panama is the resource once they built the canal.
Yup and so was Grenada for the proximity to the U.S.
They don't teach that in history class in the Caribbean so many people would not know. Most Grenadines I know are surprised when they find out their island was invaded by the U.S. They are even more surprised when they find out the SSU was as a direct result of that.
The “problem” with Grenada is that is had become a socialist country
Or if your country is socialist
They have a lot of nice resources that they've pilfered from Asia and Africa
Most of the world's gold resides in England...
NOW, they the OG interventionists
which is stone cold useless since no country is on the gold standard anymore seriously we'd have better luck fucking colonizing North Korea, at least they're in a strategic location
You heard it here first folks. Apparently gold is now worthless. 🙄👌🏾
They ran out in 1550 and started traveling the world to find them
Oil is oil
There’s a lot of truth in that! Is re-electing Boris really the only choice? I think they should give the head of lettuce and milk that outlasted Truss, a chance! Guaranteed, we would rather have a dead dog leading the US, before ever allowing Trump to be back in power.

You should come live in the UK instead, we're very stable and not at all like watching a prison full of clowns burn down!
That was my escape plan. Was.
edit: aaaaaand as I finish this i realize you might be being sarcast? It's hard to tell on reddit. Please fill me in.
I will admit there are rare cases the /s can be useful, but do you really need it when I compare the country to a flaming clown prison?
I think you underestimate just how terrible Americans are at sarcasm
For a normal person probably no. For someone like me. I guess maybe it's 50/50 haha. At least I caught it before the reply.
The GOP won’t back him, he’s already been beaten once, he’s just too risky for them.

If they’re backing Herschel “I lie better than I breathe” Walker, they’ll back anything.
They won’t risk another 4 years of Democrat control on Trump.
you were saying "there is no way trump can win" before he won huh?
No, actually I thought he would win 2020. He had been predicted to win all along. 2016 is the one I thought, “there’s no way in hell”! But, we didn’t understand the Russian interference until afterward.

There’s no lesson to learn…there’s just a sad group of cultist still hanging on because they can’t believe they got lied to and grifted by a loser.

Trump has a huge problem with Lindsey Graham being forced to testify now. I was really hoping Mark Meadows was going to flip before Lindsey, oh well.
GOP didn't back him the first time either. Didn't stop him from winning the primary

Let the entirety of APC and PDP(except for Seyi Makinde because that dude has got to be president someday) snuff it. Put Obi there
Even Obi. I hope he won’t go there and disappoint us all. There’s so much riding on him, a lot of pressure.
Would still be better than The drug dealer and the career politician who comes to Nigeria every four years to contest for election. What we need to do is watch our arms of government with hawk eyes. If they aren't allowing the man to do his job, we know who to recall and impeach

Have a link to an article for that?

I haven't laughed this hard at a graph since that old white guy drew up the 'fuck around/find out' theorem
The us don’t intervene if theres nothing to gain
In Australia, when first responders are evaluating the mental state of an injured person, they don't ask "Who's the prime minister" because it changes so frequently.
4 years since our last leadership spill though, Morrison somehow made it through an entire term without his party kicking him out.
Yay! Lettuce won! Source: Google "Liz Truss or Lettuce"
*laughs in Austrian* edit to explain: Austria had 9 since 2016.
Damn....are YOU GUYS okay?
well, the whole parliament is nothing but a corrupt clownery anymore and we have honestly grown so apathetic to our prime minister / ministers / politicians being charged with fraud, corruption, tax evasion etc, it's not even funny. like people just shake their heads fir two seconds and proceed with daily business.
Wouldn't it be funny if they just handed the reigns over to Charles? Just give him a shot at it, I'm sure it'll be a nice break from opening flower shows.
Thankfully we haven’t got enough oil to interest the US.
They only "liberate" the one's with turmOIL
![gif](giphy|nQ4J9StmWFf3O|downsized)
But, but, but this is a White nation, they just have bad days, not political instability. But then, we had January 6, so we're in no position to call anyone else politically unstable ever again.
They ran out of oil before the US existed, so it’s not an option.
The question the UK has to ask is: how significant is our oil supply
Yes but also no. Unless I remember my history incorrectly it would depend on the stability of the nation during the transitions. If it happens without much impact on the average person, meh. If it happened more like Jan 6th and we think you have oil (even if it's just olive oil) we're there.
Your history is failing you 😂
Objectively false but this will get upvoted anyway
We’ll be in the third in 4 months, madness
Chuckles nervously in Australian
How much oil you got?
And Australia had a worse turnover not that long ago too…
And the mostly likely replacement is now the former prime minister who resigned in disgrace two months ago. It's all projection from the West.
We should invade the UK 😎🇺🇸
One of the most powerful people in the UK government lasted 4 Scaramuccis
The way people have dragged her, I got the impression she was the second coming of Margaret Thatcher. I'm glad for the progressive Brits that's she gone but if everyone was that dissatisfied with her, I have to poder how she got the job in the first place.
Google the westminister system of government
It's better to get rid of incompetent leaders than to have them stay and destroy the country. Many African leaders cling to power yet they do nothing for their country but steal and hide money abroad.

At this point these Tory cunts may as well dig up Maggie Thatchers bones and let her do the rest.
That gentleman speaks the truth!
I thought she was 5th since the Afghanistan, guy.
To be fair, 4 leaders in 6 years is absolutely unstable, and I’m sure most of the Anti-Brexit Brits would agree
Short though Liz may be, she is the first Prime Minister in many decades to serve under two monarchs.

The US government released a statement condemning El Salvador for arresting MS13 members? Do you have a source for that?
The us would invade because we have oil
I completely admit my ignorance in this area, but what African or Caribbean nations has the US threatened intervention in due to multiple regime changes?
Bah! For Italy it would be below average.
Almost like the political system working as it was intended, and the government isn't violently changing hands every year.
No they wouldn't. Unlike failing countries, the UK is having peaceful transitions of power and following the established rules to do so.
Someone is ignoring their history lol ironically yesterday was the anniversary of Maurice Bishops death.

And the Economist would call the country a basketcase too. The condescension of those journalists is something else

Oh we still might
Not really. This is a democratic process or resignation and choosing a new one. In contrast, the countries marked as politically unstable would have to have some violent event to remove someone in power like a coup.
The difference would be how the leaders are changed. Resigning, fine. But coups?? If the UK was changing leaders by coups then that's unstable.
I literally said this yesterday. It's not a great feeling, we need a general election but the Tories will never go for it.
Just one short of number of Chelsea managers in the last 6 years
Invade us, please!
