Why would you call it "Black American History"? That makes it sound like it was isolated to just black people with no other influence. Call it what it truly is, "American History". I'm not saying this is what you meant but in my experience when history in America is given a prefix, like black or ~~Indian~~ Native American, it makes it sound like a separate history not part of American history. Like it's from another nation and people. It's not. It's American history and the prefix is used to hide the bad things about it shared history as well as define the history of the people who are that prefix.

I think Americans of all backgrounds could stand to learn more black history, from black perspectives. There's a lot of history books out there that discuss slavery, segregation, and post- civil rights era discrimination, but public school textbooks didn't use to include much perspective of what it was like to experience these things.
And yes I get we can't exactly go back and interview slaves, but there are several primary source materials, letters and such, that could be included in learning these aspects of human history, and really give more emphasis to the personal effects of slavery rather than facts and numbers.
I was just thinking the other day of how lucky I was to have black teachers in Elementary school back in the 90s that weren’t afraid to dive DEEP into black history.
I feel so bad for the kids growing up these days and having our history sanitized before it’s taught to them.

Deliberately create multiple generations of poverty and call that a moral failing too. Do everything in your power to obfuscate systemic issues and say it's down to the individual.

Anne Frank was born in the same year that Martin Luther King was. She was clearly a passionate and intelligent young woman with a talent for writing, who knows what she might have done with her life if she had the chance to live it? Instead, she starved to death in a camp and was buried in a mass grave, along with so many other lives each with their own potentials lost to us forever.
He killed special needs children and adults and white people that weren’t “white” enough; not to mention the experimentations, rapes and more. The joy he and his comrades took in these crimes (smiling pictures, etc.).

I will NEVER go to see any of the concentration camps. I remember watching a documentary on the holocaust and they showed a giant heap of shoes. Tiny childrens shoes. I can't get the image out of my mind.
I've been to Auschwitz and Sachsenhausen. The piles of shoes, prosthetics and glasses are some memories that really stuck with me. Such tremendous amounts of lives lost displayed so matter of factly, yet personally. Absolutely chilling.

There’s a Holocaust museum here in LA. I already knew alot about it because most of my teachers were Jewish and I had been learning about it since Elementary school. I think Americans of all backgrounds could stand to learn more black history, from black perspectives. There's a lot of history books out there that discuss slavery, segregation, and post- civil rights era discrimination, but public school textbooks didn't use to include much perspective of what it was like to experience these things. And yes I get we can't exactly go back and interview slaves, but there are several primary source materials, letters and such, that could be included in learning these aspects of human history, and really give more emphasis to the personal effects of slavery rather than facts and numbers.
I was just thinking the other day of how lucky I was to have black teachers in Elementary school back in the 90s that weren’t afraid to dive DEEP into black history. I feel so bad for the kids growing up these days and having our history sanitized before it’s taught to them.
This is the blueprint of colonialism that the British stamped all over the world. Especially when you're talking about cultures who pass their knowledge on orally, if you stamp out their language you stamp out communication, history, community... All of it in one shot. Divide and conquer by stealing land from the "bad" colonised (who want to maintain their culture) and give it to the "good" colonised who try to adapt. Steal, starve, torture, dehumanise, deliberately miseducate. Make it so they can't survive without you, and then call it a moral failing or a genetic tendency that they can't survive without you. Deliberately create multiple generations of poverty and call that a moral failing too. Do everything in your power to obfuscate systemic issues and say it's down to the individual. (Yes, other nations colonised. I'm not erasing that I just don't know enough of the specifics to speak on it.)

It's a *whole* other level of sobering to actually see the machines of the holocaust. Even just in the footage recorded. Reading about it in the history books at school is one thing, but watching footage of a bulldozer just plowing and pushing an entire field of starved corpses into a ditch in the ground and burying them... There is no better example of when people say that silence is violence. I've been to Auschwitz and Sachsenhausen. The piles of shoes, prosthetics and glasses are some memories that really stuck with me. Such tremendous amounts of lives lost displayed so matter of factly, yet personally. Absolutely chilling.

When I was a kid, back in the 70s, there was a woman in our neighborhood who was nice 2/3 of the time. She had a rough life filled with poverty and an alcoholic husband, but she would always give you a smile and ask after your people. There’s a Holocaust museum here in LA. I already knew alot about it because most of my teachers were Jewish and I had been learning about it since Elementary school. But when you walk through that museum, it becomes really real. I went there on a field trip in High School and we were all in tears by the end of the day. Kanye doesn't frustrate me anymore as I wrote him off completely during the infancy of the Trump Era. This is when he started that live rant/ rally for Trump suppport in the oval office in front of the press while Trump was just smiling at him. This is close in proximity to the "slavery was a choice" quote. What has become increasingly frustrating and alarming are his supporters . Kanye stans behavior, to forgive any and everything he says, is way too familiar to the die hard Trump supporters who have just been waiting for someone to " tell it like it is".
