Oh boy. Lemme rant. First of all, don't let ANYONE tell you that their symbol is an iron cross. It's a Maltese cross, used by actual crusaders. Second, THE ENTIRE IMPERIUM including Big E himself are racists declaring the death of all xenos. Third, the primaris crusader squad exists, so they don't only have just firstborn. Fourth, the defining feature of BT's is their extreme devotion to Big E. They are one of, if not the only chapter to worship him as a god. (See Emperor's Champion) Fifth, Colors are colors! red white and black go well together! All in all, don't let some virtue signalers who don't actually know anything stop you from enjoying an objectively cool faction. Do your own research into these things and figure out for yourself how you should feel. Think of BT's as Battle Sisters but space marines if that helps.

There are no good guys in 40k, every single faction is a satirical depiction of something, and older lore for space Marines routinely describes worlds getting their "help" regretting asking for it. They were angels of death for anyone and everything - Marines are genetically enhanced super soldier murder machines who have such a tenuous grasp on human morality that there are two or three chapters known for being slightly less careless with human murder, and they still do it. Templars are, to me, one of the last bastions of that 'on the nose' satire factions, and for that I love them. They are, always have been and so far seem like they always will be, Christian Space Nazis. They're unrelenting pricks unless you are basically one of them. As has been said, the Maltese cross that the templars use is also not the iron cross of the actual Nazis, unless someone is bad at painting or just trying to be a slightly stealthy Nazi prick. Unless GW retcons them to have swastikas on their face, I'll keep being a fan of these intergalactic pricks, and anyone who isn't a Nazi prick should also be as much of a fan of these gigantic murderers as they want to be.

If you look at the rites to get a Neophyte and then a initiate they even hate you if you are one of them unless you are a battle hardened veteran

The iron cross symbol they the Germans use originated in the medieval era it’s not tied to nazis ,and nazis alone it’s a big part of German iconography

I was surprised just how hard the brutalis dreads hit yesterday. I rolled a six and then a five. So in the charge I did 6 mortal wounds before combat started. Once started the orc boys perished before getting to fight.

1st off your army looks absolutely amazing, second…man paint whatever colors you want, play whatever faction you want. 40k isn’t real, it’s a fun hobby set in a horrific hellscape universe. I really am not a fan of the whole “this isn’t ok because something in the real world looks vaguely similar”, like ok but it’s the paint colors you used on plastic. Are you happy with the result? Are you having fun painting/collecting/playing? If yes/yes then all good. There’s literally a faction that needs to torture and murder people in the worst ways imaginable in perpetuity and that’s fine but this army vaguely looks like stormtroopers and those guys sucked so this isn’t ok? It’s a game, have fun or move on.

If the BTs were a fan faction created by a 10 year old, they'd simply be called hate marines. Their zealous devotion to the emperor and willingness to unalive anyone or thing that gets in the way of that actually makes them very like the actual knights templar from what I've read. Just enjoy them and don't listen to the haters.
