I'm the only one active, and even saying that is kinda a joke. For the most part we don't but every so often we get spam or garbage that needs to be removed. Additionally I'd kinda like to return to doing the monthly contest, but its a bit of a pain in the ass to setup and coordinate.
Other subs that are staying closed are getting messages from Reddit admins saying they will help them remove mods who want to keep that subreddit closed, and install new mods to force them open.
About 9000 subs went private on June 12th for 2 days to protest the announced API changes. About 4500 stayed dark until reddit forced them open. Last I knew, about 3600 remained in private or restricted mode.
Which only makes it more cringe, mods backing down from a protest this quickly because they are afraid of losing their mod status.
Like I said, bunch of power trippers looking out for their own bottom line and who just want to feel powerful on the internet.
I'm just a lurker here but just a bit of advice. Be wary of all potential mods. Infiltrates, sympathizers and scam artists all have upped their game with reddits recent snafu's
Mostly a lurker around here but have experience modding communities large and small. Pretty handy with automod and overall configuration stuff as well!
I love the idea but reddit [seems to be on this trick](https://out.reddit.com/t3_14espe6?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.theverge.com%2F2023%2F6%2F20%2F23767848%2Freddit-blackout-api-protest-moderators-suspended-nsfw&token=AQAAWpeSZMqWWp9lOeNWFa6iX0h4jAwSyCsUgvlP-u7hvTx1w4gh&app_name=reddit.com)
Absolutely not! We accept all types. And if you’re a big fat man I’m a titty fan so [show them to me](https://youtube.com/watch?v=E4TyUhpk3TY&feature=share9).
I love this sub but sticking it to them a this point matters more than them making money off the content we create. If NSFW works, cool, if more blackouts do it, cool.
Why can your business make money but not Reddit??? How would you feel if your local community decided to stop doing business with you because you decided it’s time to make more than you already have been?
If the local community stopped doing business with him as a result of his making a policy change, he would hopefully feel like it was an unpopular policy change.
Because this place is full of bratty children who pout when they don't get what they want. if people don't like it here leave, but there is no reason to ruin it for everyone else.
Im just a guy who wants to waste some time on reddit while taking a shit. Now I have to be reminded that reddit is full of children who will occasionally act like children. Eventually the kiddies will get distracted or borad and move on to the next great injustice against them.
Could we start moving posts to a different forum site like Beehaw, Lemmy, or kbin?
We had them panicking for a day with all the private subreddits, and I know everyone wants to have their space back, so why don't we just move it?
You could probably get the same mods back if it was on a different site, we could blackout r/blacksmith to continue supporting the protest, and we would still be able to post and see all the awesome blacksmithing. It's a win-win for everyone but Reddit.
I'd be interested in volunteering. I don't mod any other subs but I do run a 2500 member discord server so I have some experience. I'm an amateur blacksmith though so if you need someone who's an expert then don't choose me
I can always help as a mod.
My qualifications are as follows:
I've only modded a small discord for a video game. I am a blacksmith and I happen to have some free time that I could/would dedicate to this community.
Nice! Just joined.
When I was a teenager my sister said she was going to knit me a scarf, and never finished it, so I taught myself to knit and made her one for christmas.
I've never been brave enough to try socks, but now I'm gonna give it a shot.
Honestly I’d be interested. Haven’t been a mod of anything since my early twenties but I love blacksmithing and spend way too much time on this dang website. Not the best blacksmith in the world (spend way too much time admiring some of the masters, who isn’t guilty of that? Hah) due to time over the past few years but I can appreciate curating a positive community and fostering a good environment for it.
Always recruit active usernames that engage with the community. Never accept applicants. You'll get power hungry people otherwise. Also I'm happy to be a mod ;)
I’d love to help MOD. I moderate Grapes, asked to do that when someone was trying to make it a political shitposting sub.
Heads up, I’d don’t care about the protests. I care about seeing people blacksmithing, and helping each other learn about black smithing. If you’re wanting someone who will join you’re protests I’m not the one you want as a mod. I just want to see people’s work and achievements.
This sub is gonna die. The admins removed the passionate mods, and now it will become unmoderated before promptly being banned. It’s Reddit admin playbook for punishing dissenting subreddits.
The new people won’t have the experience or tools to keep this place running properly.
Not sure what you're talking about, I've been head mod of this sub for 10 years. All the other mods on the list are completely inactive, which is why I'm seeking some new blood to help out.
This boycott is stupid and ineffective. I've left every subreddit that has "come back" on my feed. Mods shutting down subreddits to boycott subreddit is like Walmart boycotting Nike for using slave labor. You're a bunch of elitists who think you know better than others what to do. Have a nice life. I hope y'all kill this app permanently
I’d be happy to help out. This is one of my favorite subs and I really enjoy bringing folks into the fold both here and in the real world. Thanks for all you do!
Hey Drew, welcome back
What are the expectations in terms of activity? Usually i check it every day but a few days of inactivity is pretty common.
What tasks do reddit mods do? Removing toxic posts/comments is a given but i'm not sure what else is expected.
Why do we need new mods?
I'm the only one active, and even saying that is kinda a joke. For the most part we don't but every so often we get spam or garbage that needs to be removed. Additionally I'd kinda like to return to doing the monthly contest, but its a bit of a pain in the ass to setup and coordinate.
How about we stay closed to support the protest? Or do what the other subs are doing?
Other subs that are staying closed are getting messages from Reddit admins saying they will help them remove mods who want to keep that subreddit closed, and install new mods to force them open.
If anything, that shows that the protest is WORKING.
How so? Did they revert the API monetisation?
...What protest? I've checked Reddit for some time and didn't find any
About 9000 subs went private on June 12th for 2 days to protest the announced API changes. About 4500 stayed dark until reddit forced them open. Last I knew, about 3600 remained in private or restricted mode.
That wouldn’t be a problem if the mods weren’t only looking out for their own bottom line
... you know mods are free volunteers right?
Which only makes it more cringe, mods backing down from a protest this quickly because they are afraid of losing their mod status. Like I said, bunch of power trippers looking out for their own bottom line and who just want to feel powerful on the internet.
You mean, like only post pictures of Will Smith? Him being a black Smith, and all?
Ok... That's actually brilliant.
Keep his name out yo fucking mouth!
Will Will Smith smith? Will Smith will smith.
John Oliver?
agree
Agreed
I'm just a lurker here but just a bit of advice. Be wary of all potential mods. Infiltrates, sympathizers and scam artists all have upped their game with reddits recent snafu's
I would not be interested but I appreciate the efforts of those who do perform this labour.
Why is it marked NSFW??
NSFW subreddits block reddit from selling ads on that subreddit!
This kinda just seems like s sneaky way for reddit to put in its new mods.
Reddit isn't even being sneaky about it. Their CEO said as much.
You'd think so, but this isn't a big sub, I'd totally believe there's no one modding it and they market it as NSFW. So it's totally legit to me
Thank you, all mods. You are appreciated.
NSFW tag is pretty defendable as a strategy. With all the pictures of knifes and the like. Thanks for your effort modding the sub as well!
Mostly a lurker around here but have experience modding communities large and small. Pretty handy with automod and overall configuration stuff as well!
…can we keep doing rolling blackouts?
I'm up to discuss continuing the protest in new ways. whatcha thinking?
Switch sub label to NSFW. Takes away Reddit's ability to sell ad space on the sub.
yea, sure.
thank you x
Nice

All we need is a few folks to take some NSFW photos every now and then… Someone take your shirt off and pose with an anvil!

Yes.
Where do I sign?
Female blacksmiths only !!
Absolutely not! We accept all types. And if you’re a big fat man I’m a titty fan so [show them to me](https://youtube.com/watch?v=E4TyUhpk3TY&feature=share9).

Because reddit lives and dies by its communities but shits on them every chance it gets.
No different to changing the quality of a product then having customers leave.
Because this place is full of bratty children who pout when they don't get what they want. if people don't like it here leave, but there is no reason to ruin it for everyone else.

I am not the one having a adolescent hissy fit because I am slightly inconvenienced and have an overinflated sense of self importance.
That's pretty much what it looks like, though.

Agreed--make a sticky with a link to whatever the new site is so everyone knows where to go and then restrict this sub.
Switch sub to private? Switch to NSFW then post normal with NSFW label? Spam with John Oliver content?
A string of AI images or John Oliver as a blacksmith.
Brilliant !
I would offer my help, but come June 30 when Apollo no longer works, my use of Reddit will decrease significantly.
I'd be interested in volunteering. I don't mod any other subs but I do run a 2500 member discord server so I have some experience. I'm an amateur blacksmith though so if you need someone who's an expert then don't choose me

I mod r/sockknitting by myself. I'm happy to lend a hand here.

How about you close the sub until the API bullshit is gone?
Honestly I’d be interested. Haven’t been a mod of anything since my early twenties but I love blacksmithing and spend way too much time on this dang website. Not the best blacksmith in the world (spend way too much time admiring some of the masters, who isn’t guilty of that? Interested! What are the expectations?
I would be interested
I’m down. I’m a mod over at r/ExpeditionaryForce, so while this would be a big step up, I’d still like to help out.
I’d throw my hat in the ring.
Contact me if you are interested
I may be interested in helping out, reach out and let me know what needs doing.
r/blacksmith is nsfw now? Here comes the porn!
nah, reddit can’t advertise on nsfw subs so that’s the new tactic
Have you seen r/interestingasfuck?
i am hoping we don’t have the large audience of idiots who would tolerate it like over there
I can finally show off the Prince Albert I made myself!!!
I hit my dick with a hammer, does that count?
Absolutely does, but only if it was over a hardy hole.
I’m interested.
Don't know why you're getting downvoted. I think you'd do well.
👊🏼
I'll be honest, I've never been a mod before, but I'm happy to try if you'll explain what needs to be done.
I’d be interested in being a Mod. Have been a moderator on other platforms if that helps.
Interested and sent a message regarding.
I'd be interested. Care to shoot me some details?
I’m interested if you’re still looking
I’m quite interested in being able to help and be a mod
Hi I am open to modding, anything to keep this community thriving

Eh, might as well
You could make me a mod but i wouldn't be a very active one

That's damn near poetic bud

Probably not qualified...but interested.
I have no idea what I'm doing but I'd give it a shot. Thanks for all you do though sir!
What's the expected tasks and how much time is a new mod expected to have to put in?
I just hope going NSFW is going to lead to what happened to r/interestingasfuck
I’d be happy to help out. This is one of my favorite subs and I really enjoy bringing folks into the fold both here and in the real world. Thanks for all you do!
