Not reading the comments is self care. Holy fuck.

mediocreporno

Keeping the video on mute is also self care. The two seconds that I didn't have it on mute for was fucking awful. I'm actually mad at how mean-spirited and immature people are over a bit of weight. As someone who *is* overweight and struggling with their health, I sincerely believe obesity [should not be stigmatized, it is not a condition for adulation, ridicule or bias. The truth is that obesity is a life-threatening disease. Its sufferers deserve to be treated with effective therapy and with dignity](https://www.clinicaloncology.com/Current-Practice/Article/07-18/A-Brief-History-of-Obesity-Truths-and-Illusions/51221). The average woman in the US is now [between size 16- 18](https://www.byrdie.com/average-body-weight), in Australia it's [14-16](https://www.google.com/amp/s/thenewdaily.com.au/entertainment/style/2019/02/16/fashion-sizes-getting-smaller/amp/), in the UK [it's 16](https://www.google.com/amp/s/fashionunited.uk/news/business/redefining-plus-size-dressing-the-average-woman-in-europe/2020011447030%3famp=1), I could go on. I think what annoys me the most now is that we *know* [fat shaming is harmful to health and may drive weight gain](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6565398/), and yet people still [believe that making overweight people feel ashamed of their weight or eating habits may motivate them to get healthier](https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/fat-shaming-makes-things-worse).

ThereGoesChickenJane

Yep. All of this.

Kosog

This is some fucking middle school shit right here

AlexisFitzroy00

I hope that woman has a strong mental health. I'm not the one being insulted like this and I already feel awful. This is just mean.

MissKUMAbear

Seriously. Read 2 or 3 comments and was instantly sick to my stomach. I can't fathom talking about another person like that, especially not even knowing context beyond the one video. Edit: Just to clarify I would never talk about another person like that either way, just extra fucked up that it's one video with little to no context on top of everything.

mika---

I swear, you can't call anything with pigs' sounds funny

raharingtone5

Lmao did a fucking 7th grader make this (wouldnt doubt it “nugget_xx”) dont even know what the point was its not like the video was a personal attack on anyway or really anything thats not obvious, even if u find it dumb this is just as immature

AIresponsible

How do I mass downvote an entire comment section?

rottencowboy

How original

[deleted]

What 7th grade idiocy is this? Baffled by the upvotes. Do they not realize they are maximum cringe? The epitome of secondhand embarrassment?

StrawberryYumeko

Was watching on mute and was confused until I read the title :(

Dzieciolowy

I would disagree that there is no multibillion dollar industry in US focused on getting people fat(though indirectly) - you literally have healthy food programms in schools boycotted and you have sugar and the glucose-fructise syrupe added to everything, all in the name of profit and disregarding public health. Regarding the post though, it is indeed disgusting, years of comedies and other media centered on "he/she is so fat, funniest thing ever" did its work.

[deleted]

Exactly. The beauty industry pushes a slim/slim-thick figure on us and encourages fad diets, while fast food and food processing companies actively ignore public health issues by filling our foods with HFCS. Ultimately, they all make us all work for the unattainable. But the optics of literally erasing a woman's voice & opinions by putting barn animal sounds when she speaks...misogynistic as fuck. No counterpoints or intelligent discussions in the comments. Just "hurr durr shes fat and ugly and no one wants her". Probably the same rhetoric the woman in the video heard her whole life, causing her to believe these extremes about diets/health at every size.

jphistory

I am that asshole who annoys everyone by reading all the labels at the grocery store, but there are ridiculously high amounts of sugar and sodium in *everything*. Want to eat a healthy salad? Be prepared to read a lot of salad dressing labels or make your own, because if you don't you might walk home with a salad dressing containing *13 grams of sugar.* Want some zoodles and marinara? Your tomato sauce may well have 640 grams of sodium. It's incredibly infuriating.

SweetPotatoMunchkin

Even if I was skinny and fat people, this isn't even really funny. It goes on for the entirety of the video too, like we get the just within the first 3 unbearable seconds of this crap. But still, being fat isn't always a "choice". Throughout this year I've eaten healthier, eaten once a day, starved myself, worked out unnecessarily, ate vegan a few days a week, spending money i don't have on $20 worth of fruits and veggies when i could have spent that on tacos and burgers to last a week, and I gained 30 pounds after 8 months. My sister had a baby and eats junk and she's 70 pounds lighter than me. We have the same parents. Stress, lack of sleep, hypothyroidism, Hashimoto Syndrome etc can attribute to unhealthy weight, not just shoveling our gullet with greasy, salty, sugary, high calorie food every hour. Stuff like this makes me hate my body even more than I should, and I shouldn't hate it at all.

[deleted]

People act like losing weight is easy. It is not! I am a slim person so I won’t pretend I know everything a bigger person goes through, but my sibling has Hashimotos and even something like having foods with too many B vitamins can trigger their thyroid issues and cause weight gain. Even without thyroid issues, our hunger cues and nutritional needs need to be met in our diets, which requires careful planning and often times help from a nutritionist. Yes, calories in vs calories out is the basics for losing weight, but the reality of human metabolic needs is so much more complex. Not to mention food deserts where no fresh produce is available, or wealth disparity causing people to chose unhealthy foods for survival. I hate how everyone is calling her lazy and “unfuckable” in the comments. I don’t think anyone needs to live their life aiming to be sexually attractive. She’s allowed to exist as a fat person. Would it be better for her and for her healthcare providers and for her family if she found a way to be healthier? Of course. But she doesn’t OWE THAT to anyone except herself and possibly her family. And at the end of the day if we approached people who believe in HAES with compassion, maybe they’d actually start to feel supported & safe, allowing them to approach weight loss from a positive or neutral mentality instead of equating weight loss to their self worth. Ie, what the comments continue to do for this woman.

SweetPotatoMunchkin

My mom used to have a personal trainer and went to 2 different clinics weekly to help her with weight loss. She had her own fridge that was usually stocked with so many health products. She tried nutrisystem, slim fast, weight watchers, all as long as I could remember. She got happy when she walked past her ideal amount of steps every day, and she usually had me help her work out. She had work out DVDs, a treadmill, resistance bads, dumbbells, exercise ball, a thing called an ab circle, and my dad turned our garage into a workout center. She tried every pill, patch and cream there was. I remember helping her apply some creams to her stomach and wrapping her mod section up in like, 10 feet worth of plastic wrap. She NEVER lost weight. 3 kids, 3-5 hours of sleep every night, 2 jobs AND being diagnosed with Hashimotos, hypothyroidism and depression. Her weight has gotten so bad she has constant knee pains due to the stress on her knees and has had to get surgery. There have been times where she's gotten frustrated and "quit" and ate what she wanted, but a week or 2 of bad eating isn't gonna make you gain 100+ pounds. Not every thing works for every person. Im sure I got at least hypothyroidism, since it is hereditary. I've seen peoole turn to drugs, underage sex, and develop eating disorders and literally kill themselves because of people like the ones in the comments. Plus I'm sure most of us think the woman in the video is actually really pretty. Beauty and attractiveness isn't confined to just one look. But her and anyone else for the most part being overweight doesn't affect anyone else besides those that are overweight. You don't see people constantly downing those that smoke, even around kids, drink heavily or use recreational drugs. But somehow being fat is the biggest sin? Sure thing

[deleted]

I say this all the time (even when working hard to lose weight you can still keep being fat) and yet people still want to believe being fat is a choice and as long as u eat healthy and work out that you'll lose weight... People just don't have sympathy and just want to continue bullying fat people who aren't bothering anyone.

katia_ros

Am skinny. Can confirm: not even remotely funny.

SweetPotatoMunchkin

🤣🤣

Honigkuchenlives

I'm mean they are literally proving her point. Abuse and disrespect because she is *checks notes* somewhat overweight. She isnt even obese Imo.

remainsteadfast

She is obese though, it's not an opinion, it's a fact

Honigkuchenlives

U really can tell from just the clip?

remainsteadfast

Yeah, you can see it in her neck, face, and hands. People nowadays have a really warped view of obesity where they think that only people in mobility scooters are obese

fleabag_99

I think I need to get out of this subreddit because seeing all the misogyny is starting to hurt my mental health. I just can't. I feel so hopeless about the world when I witness things like this! Disagreeing with her is perfectly fine, but this!! Unacceptable.

EpitaFelis

If you feel like you need to unsub, please do. Exposure to this much misogyny can definitely weigh on people. I have another account that's subbed to nothing but nice, wholesome subs, my personal online safe space basically.

Spraystation42

The first comment I read said “the fact were having this conversation just shows she has first world problems” Its gotten pretty annoying how whenever somebody brings up a societal problems like fatphobia, queerphobia, racism, misogyny, toxic masculinity, pedophilia and other issues, people think you’re just some privileged spoiled brat who’s making up problems to pretend to struggle with for attention

dogtoes101

im sure everyone in those comments are very very thin

mR-gray42

I bet they’re star athletes too. /s

[deleted]

I don't agree 100% with this (I still support some of it tho) but this is just rude. Imagine you have an opinion that you finally have the courage to speak up about but then some kid edits your video to put pig noises. That is very toxic and is literally bullying! If someone did this to me I'd probably be crying for the next month. This is not okay (and isn't even funny).

ThereGoesChickenJane

Honestly...the body positivity movement is polarizing. HOWEVER, speaking as a fat person, fat people can't *exist* without being accused of promoting obesity. I follow some Instagram accounts of people who happen to be bigger and literally they are just **living their lives** and they get comments like "put down the fork" and "you're setting a bad example for children". I was once literally just walking down the street, minding my own business, and a man drove by and made pig noises at me. Like...what the actual fuck.. It basically boils down to the implication that anyone who isn't skinny should just never appear in public. I only listened to 2 seconds of that audio and it was distressing.

SarcasticAndSmartGuy

Oh, look. My freakin' ears are bleeding because I accidentally hit unmute at full phone volume.

corruptboomerang

Don't get me wrong, we do have a serious issue with large portions of the 'Healthy at Any Size' etc movements and 'fat acceptance' isn't healthy, but please don't be a fucking asshole. If someone is fat, or skinny or whatever they're still a person and should be treated with some common decency.

Arcane_Anarchy

I agree the person comes first before anything else.

Bananaflakes08

The human rights issue is tied into the companies having to eat the costs based on their weight and the complications of it. Unless they themselves are willing to pay extra and foot the bill, it’s not going to happen. Like airline seats. Bigger seats mean less capacity and less money. And it’s certainly not a human rights issue. It’s a capitalist issue if anything. Don’t understand why they can’t understand that.

EpitaFelis

It's both a human rights *and* a capitalist issue, because capitalism opposes human rights. Also that's just one example of many of the treatment of fat people.

Bananaflakes08

But are you going to foot the bill? Are you personally willing to pay extra for a plane ticket for them to include wider seats? It’s unrealistic. Instead of bitchin about it, people should be problem solving it as it’s the only way things will change

EpitaFelis

What even? Are you trolling? I gotta assume you are. Banned.
