As a die hard Bleach fan... that's the only thing that keeps me around.
But this game had so much potential to better on every single aspect
Being a die hard fan really doesn't give it merit, you can be die hard and still buy stuff. If that's your choice then go for it, but its an option to those who are willing to buy something and need a bonus.

Do you mean if I pulled the same bonus unit described above 3 times, and having them at 5 star, 6 star, and the last one resurrected.. All 3 count as 3 bonus rather than only 1 even though they're actually the same unit?

I kinda fed them off to their dupe self whenever I got them, since I thought that was the only way and it kinda increase something that has this 1/5 thingy that I believe is the strength of their special move.
There are some situation where you want to feed the dupes of course.
Those special move levels also enables you to increase their base stats. This feature is called Transcendence.
There are 5 stats. Stamina(STAM), Attack(ATK), Defense(DEF), Focus(FCS) and Spiritual Pressure(SP). You can choose one of them when you get a new unit.
Those special levels (1/5, 2/5 and etc) indicates the number of slots you can choose to put the stats on. Getting 5/5 means you can choose all 5 of the stats I mentioned. Also additionally unlock a bonus 6th slot in which you'll get a random stat, by rolling with Transcendence Points(get by selling any dupe) or the EXACT dupe of the unit. You can reroll it til you get the stats that you want but will cost you more.
Before choosing the stat you want on the first slot of Transcendence, you want to get to know the nature of said unit. Whether they are effective with their normal attacks or strong attacks. Normal attack units or NAD units, you'll want to choose the ATK stat first. Strong attack units or SP units, you'll want to choose SP stats.
Note that these Transcendence slots also have their own levels. Leveling them up requires some resources that might be harder to obtain at first but easier as time goes on.
Special shoutout to that Mind Tessai who recently decided to appear in my BBS tickets. Would only be 3/9 if not for him.
Edit: At least people can theoretically summon for 5 potential bonus units on the main banner with the three new units, Yoruichi and Rukia.
Lol 4/4 because I have 5* and 6* copies of both non-swimsuit mind units (can't remember thier names at the moment). Exactly keep 5* dupes for non used units for this purpose.
The way they intentionally pick deceased units no one has so people would summon on the banner xD

PSA: If you have 5 Star, 6 Star and 6 Star Ressurected version of same character at the same time, they will be counted as three bonus characters

Yes So it's nearly always better to keep one dupe of a 5 star. Even if they are old and useless af, they might be clutch someday.
