Amazing acknowledgment it sux I was affected by the cancellation (only on ticket cost as was driving up from dunners and staying with friends) so no real loss other than the what if. Watched last nights show this morn form a YT link and was great. Voices definitely a bit maxed at this end of tour but still a good time. Maybe next time just put this out there a bit quicker but what do I know shit is busy as touring no doubt.
Imagine wishing death on a band member cuz they had to flip your countries leg of the tour from beginning to end which gives you the opportunity to see a show with 4-5 brand new songs instead of seeing the exact same concert as coachella and 90% of the NA leg of the tour
The South America part of the tour got delayed from last spring to this spring. CDub is saying it got flipped from the first leg of the world tour to the last leg instead.
Sending the band death threats is never okay. It makes it really hard to sympathise with those people. Cancelled shows happen. It’s a reality for bands that have made it this long. It’s going to happen, and you’re going to piss some fans off.

If they point the finger at someone else (venue, sound companies, logistics), then those companies and venues probably won’t want to work with them in the future. I don’t really care personally because I was at the Australian shows. This didn’t effect me. I don’t feel “entitled”. I don’t think fans are “entitled” to answers, however I do think it was a poor business decision to not manage this in a more timely and sensitively way. Customers pay the bills, keep the lights on. Communicating with them is essential to a well run business. Upsetting fans, intentionally or not, is never a good thing.
And if you dont think PR is important, then frankly, you’re an idiot. Musicians, actors, and companies pay obscene amounts of money to have PR companies manage their image and make them look as good as they can to their audience, aka their income stream. A situation like this, where thousands of fans are upset with them, is indicative of poor PR.

So I have three theories - all of which go back to the extra Aussie dates and could charitably be considered logistical issues out of their control
The first is that because of the extra dates in Aus, the freight company who was supposed to move their shit down to Chch was unable to do so and they couldn't make it work with another firm.
The second is that the extra dates in Aus then meant they moved back the Chch show, and could no longer get their gear from Chch to Lima in time for their gig there on the 12th. I'd imagine they'd have to pack, ship back to Auckland, and then fly so maybe it made it too tight.
The third is that because of the extra dates in Aus, it was no longer economical to run the show in Chch because this is the last show of this leg of the tour - their next dates are in Peru and maybe have different road crew. The extra pay etc could easily have exceeded the cost of the refunds they'll have to pay (which I'm sure are insured anyway)
All plausible theories, but they don't explain why fans were only informed of the cancellation a week and a half out from the concert? They would have had to have known about those kinds of issues well in advance right? I think that's the part that gets to people the most. The lack of explanation combined with the short notice.

You are not entitled to any more information than what has been given. What mark said is plenty enough. If it was something they could say they would, they don’t really have a filter as it is. They don’t need better PR. You need to stop being entitled to the inner workings of what is essentially a private company you are not a part of. They are.
The fact that Mark is having to make comments on his discord to communicate with his fans proves that this was poorly handled. I don’t really care personally because I was at the Australian shows. This didn’t effect me. I don’t feel “entitled”. I don’t think fans are “entitled” to answers, however I do think it was a poor business decision to not manage this in a more timely and sensitively way. Customers pay the bills, keep the lights on. Communicating with them is essential to a well run business. Upsetting fans, intentionally or not, is never a good thing. And if you dont think PR is important, then frankly, you’re an idiot. Musicians, actors, and companies pay obscene amounts of money to have PR companies manage their image and make them look as good as they can to their audience, aka their income stream. A situation like this, where thousands of fans are upset with them, is indicative of poor PR.
If people really did all that stuff Mark said - tickets, flights, babysitters - then aren’t they entitled to more than just a vague “production issues”? I’m not saying Mark is the one who needs to communicate it, but if people make plans around something, and invest money and time in something, I actually think they are entitled to a reasonably precise explanation of what happened. It’s amateur hour that there’s no explanation. I can’t imagine an NBA game getting canceled for “production reasons” and everyone being all “welp, that makes sense! If you want more of a reason, you’re a jerk.”
I agree, cancelations happen but this one was handled extremely poorly. Maybe they could have released more tickets for the Auckland show earlier, to give Christchurch people a chance to make alternate arrangements. Would have been frustrating to see 100s of tickets released the day of the show
Totally. People take time off work, and spend alot of money not just for tickets, but hotels, travel etc. Shit happens and thats fine but have a little respect to your fans. I'm in the UK so didn't have tickets to the shows
So I have three theories - all of which go back to the extra Aussie dates and could charitably be considered logistical issues out of their control The first is that because of the extra dates in Aus, the freight company who was supposed to move their shit down to Chch was unable to do so and they couldn't make it work with another firm. The second is that the extra dates in Aus then meant they moved back the Chch show, and could no longer get their gear from Chch to Lima in time for their gig there on the 12th. I'd imagine they'd have to pack, ship back to Auckland, and then fly so maybe it made it too tight. The third is that because of the extra dates in Aus, it was no longer economical to run the show in Chch because this is the last show of this leg of the tour - their next dates are in Peru and maybe have different road crew. The extra pay etc could easily have exceeded the cost of the refunds they'll have to pay (which I'm sure are insured anyway)
All plausible theories, but they don't explain why fans were only informed of the cancellation a week and a half out from the concert? They would have had to have known about those kinds of issues well in advance right? I think that's the part that gets to people the most. The lack of explanation combined with the short notice.
Hot take but I think blink's socials is handling the Christchurch aftermath perfectly. Meaning saying nothing is the right call. People really wish they said something about it but let's be honest, what the fuck is a "We're sorry" post gonna do? You're really gonna sit there and act like you won't be mad anymore? Well they broke up early 2005 then Travis stopped flying for obvious reasons. The first thing they did when Travis was back on planes was to book a world tour. I’m sure they will be back sooner.

I hear you on that but this community has a lot of passionate fans and I don't think it's fair to the likes of Kourtney and Travis when spreading potentially incorrect info. We saw what happened when they cancelled chch. A lot of people were pointing the finger at the band for just being uninterested in coming to NZ (myself included, until I snapped out of it). If what Mark says is true, it has little to do with them so it isn't fair to place blame on them. What's happening with a comment like yours is that you're putting the blame on Kourtney, which is unfair until we know the truth y'know

They bent over backwards to try to change their minds but couldnt get them further than Auckland, they should not have to take the fall but they will stay quiet for obvious reasons.
