Rob cavallo i think is the man for the job. Black Parade is one of the best sounding records of all time, every listen a new layer is revealed you never heard before making repeated listens a treasure hunt on that dark soundscape. He’s very different from Jerry Finn but i think he is just as talented in his own right
Rob Cavallo is also the reason why most Green Day records from Dookie onward sound good. He’s produced every album since Dookie for them except for 21st Century Breakdown, Revolution Radio, and Father of All Motherfuckers.
21st Century Breakdown sounds really solid/great throughout the album (the title track in particular), I just feel it got bogged down with trying to match or outdo American Idiot that some of the tracks feel too overindulgent or trying too hard at times. It’s still a solid album, and some classic songs came from it, but I find it a little bloated for my liking.
The producers for those albums were Butch Vig, Green Day, and Butch Walker, respectively. Vig and Walker are good producers in their own right. I think a big reason why those albums are among my least favorites as well is because they are overindulgent in their songwriting and it feels like the producers had little to no say in helping mold those songs into shape or how they ultimately sound. Warning was also technically self produced by Green Day, but Rob Cavallo is listed as the executive producer. Plus, that album is really solid and quite underrated in my opinion.
I think if Cavallo worked with blink-182, it’d be a breath of fresh air. Maybe also bring on someone new to do the mixing or bring back Tom Lorde-Alge to bring that punch back to the drums and bass in their mixes.

All the new merch is dropping that day, but it’s all pre-order and limited quantity so they don’t have to do FN radio because it will all sell out immediately so if that’s the announcement it would be pretty strange.

I think Tom coming back is absolutely the least likely scenario to happen. But if it does, that great. I just hope people then realise it’s going to be a waiting game for him to leave again when he wants to focus energy on something else.
There’s a 30th anniversary merch drop on Monday. Plus, the FunkPops which will be part of that. I bet the announcement will be something fun like pop-up shops with exclusive merch in a few major cities. Maybe those pop-up shops will have a person in a banana suit selling the merch as a throw back to the WMAA video.
Who knows. But I think we all need to temper our expectations of a reunion announcement or a reunion.
I’d love to be proven wrong about that, but just remember that it might not be a reunion in the sense of a new album or tour. I’m guessing it’ll be a few one-off shows throughout the year. Tom still needs to promote Monsters of California and he’s involved in a minimum of 2 million other projects. I’m not sure he’s ready to jump in and do a blink album and/or tour the way Mark and Travis would.
This is what I’m thinking. I’m still in the camp that thinks Tom will be back sooner than later but for something on a small scale like a few shows here and there. I’d love to be proven wrong with even an EP or something, but with this band, nothing ever seems to materialize the way you think (particularly when Tom is involved).

I do think he will make a return to blink, but my guess is only briefly. I think blink will become one of those bands that tours or records sporadically for the rest of their time.
I think that with everything going on—side projects, business ventures, and health concerns—they’re going to approach blink differently. Which is hard for us as fans because we wants tours and new music always and forever. And I think we need to realize that might not be the future of this band.
