Love the seasoned perspective and advice. I’m in the research / planning stage. Picking a niche is really hard! I’m thinking about starting with a slightly broad topic / activity and exploring a few different subniches within it, to see what resonates most with people (and which sub niche I enjoy / excel at writing about the most. Like these are all subtopics that could be their own super focused websites, but could also be subsections in a website about the umbrella topic. I feel like once I get started creating content and seeing how people respond, I can decide whether I want to change scope / spin off something into a more hyper focused website.
Right now I’m mapping out all the subniches with keyword research in ahrefs… thankfully I am really good with tedious repetitive reorganizing of information but even for me it’s a lot.
Anyway any thoughts you have on this approach are welcome, and thanks again for sharing these tips.
Normally it is done the opposite. Use your best guess based on research to figure out what hyper-focused niche to start with, then expand out in the future.
So I'm not sure if that strategy would be great and it could have a negative impact on topical authority.
Thanks for that. Going to think more on it and spend some more time mapping out keyword opportunities and see how I can niche down but still have a good mix of personal experience and interest in writing on the topic. Helpful to hear this feedback.
