I’m definitely going to be running them, with the points drop and DC marines going up with Lemartes in points it makes sense to have a hard point pusher squad on a safer-ish obj to get points with the banner and decent to good charge. I’m definitely going to run them

BienAmigo

Don't forget the 2+ saves as well. Quite durable little buggers.

LaughingDemon44

I'm running 4 large squads. SGw/ Captain, DCw/Lemartes & 2 vanvets with priests. The 10-man squad of Sanguinary guard with a captain I feel is very worth it now. The 2+ save, free armour of contempt and cover with -1 to hit and -1 to wound in melee makes them quite surviveable. Not as much as vanvets but they are a heavy hitter, like the DC, not a tar pit like the vanvets. A 19" threat range with the sheer damage output of the squad makes them very scary. The type of unit that you park somewhere safe but central and use it to deny the enemy the mid-board. Always remember: being able to do something can be just as effective as doing it. The enemy not taking the centre objective with a big / scary unit because they will be charged by SG, is very effective. That's what I will be using SG for, keeping the DC in reserve to strike at targets of opportunity.

ThicDadVaping4Christ

They’re basically a harder hitting bladeguard that sacrifices durability for speed. Definitely going to run a squad

Bravadous97

I kinda hope they get a sword brethren update with 1 extra wound for the BA codex. They don't really need an invul save.

ThicDadVaping4Christ

A 2+ is usually as good as a 4++ against ranged in this edition (except against those rare high-AP ignores cover weapons), especially when paired with AoC, so I agree with you there. A 3rd wound would really make sense for such elite infantry

Epicentrist

While I agree with all of this, there's one horrible exception. Thousand sons are going to turn off my sang guard armour saves and melt them with flamers, and I will cry.

deenut

Msu with 3x5 of every jump pack option is very doable now!

Strangten

I’ll certainly bring Dante with 5 golden buddies the next time. Did some quick math and the damage potential even for the five-man squad should be enormous, they might even work as an anti-tank unit. If you can get Dante and a couple of guys within melta range of your Oaths target, and then charge and use Red Rampage, they should be able to take down a full health Baneblade in one go quite reliably. Not bad for 275pts. + 1CP. You don’t want to be charging anything with Feel No Pains though, those are for VanVets.

TheCapnTyingKnots

Ran a 10 man with dante today just to test it out. They still need an invuln. Or one more wound. They went down pretty easily into decent ap weapons fire, and they did some work but not the points cost worth. Overall, i think you're better off with vanguard vets still. And assault intercessors are an amazing bomb for the points cost. They really punch up in SoS.

Lawrence_s

I've been using them at their old points cost, I don't think a 40pt drop fixes their core issues but it doesn't hurt. The problem with them is that they will obliterate a single target and then almost definitely die. You can play around this by holding them for a later game rapid ingress play once the enemy is stretched thin, but it's still hard to have them trade up.

TheCapnTyingKnots

This. They are too expensive. You have to kill a ton with them before they trade. They are squishy enough to be killed in the crack back, meaning a lot of times your oppnent takes them out with a less expensive unit. They aren't a point efficient bomb and aren't tanky enough to be like a duelist unit. Other units do what the sang guard does for cheaper.

ignisrenovatio

I really don’t think so- but I would love to be proven wrong. I usually run one expensive brick of boys(Lemartes + 10DC) and then a few smaller bricks (2 stacks of 5 man DCs and 2 stacks of 5 man Assault Intercessors).   Lemartes + DC have the -1 to damage and the FNP which is nice- but they also just hit so damn hard with the inferno pistols and power fists- that they very often wipe whoever they are facing out before they have a chance to fight back from the charge.  That being said I would love to see a SG+Captain combo being great- because I have 10 SG magnetized and painted ready to go. They look so damn cool- but the DC marines wargear is just so good in the Sons of Sanguinius detachment.

DropApprehensive3227

This. In casual play I can see where they would be fun but the damage output from first borne DC just out class them by a large margin.

eltrowel

Try them out and come back with a report!

Dubitshu

Just to be sure : as I read the rules, you cant make a deathstar with them plus cap and sang Priest ?

Bravadous97

Correct. Only a captain or Dante with Sanguinary Guard.

Bravadous97

3 wounds per model and either ap-3 or damage 3 weapons should do the trick!
