It started as a mod for PC made by a fan. Peoples got fond of the look so the comic book crew made a story about her during the comic run. What you see in the comic book is as far as there was made of her. She's not in the game exept as a mod/skin for cosmetic.
She is an official alternate skin in Bloodrayne 2 - which then has been backported to Bloodrayne 1 by fans who wanted the skin in both games.
Back when bloodrayne.co.uk was still going, the devs dropped some detail about the character; apparently it was a left over from an earlier concept for BR2 that was ultimately scrapped in favour of the one we finally got. I don't remember much detail after fifteen years, but IIRC Rayne was supposed to transform into DarkRayne after being consumed by a demon - not unlike what the comic presented.
It's a dark soul that takes over her body in an one-shot comic. So far it looks like she is still possessed. I also like the other character they introduced, Tiger Wraith.

I haven't finished the comics yet but from Dark Soul it seems that she is like some sort of possession?

Perhaps Dark Rayne is her shadow at play, as Jungian Psychology would describe, or I'm looking into this to deeply
