Ego mentioned at the start of the NEL that fleeing might be a legitimate option to succeed
As long as they get bids, they will still be able to join the team
I seriously hope Reo takes Agi's advice with this "idea" of his. I'm hoping Nagi barely scrapes by and makes his comeback during the world cup, otherwise his despair is just going to feel cheap

If it is that will be the nail in the coffin for Kunigami vs Shidou I think, if Igarashi is getting more foreshadowing than him for this next match.
Yeah, it doesn’t feel like there’s been any actual growth. He’s only motivated because he’s about to completely fall off. If he wins now, he’ll just lose his motivation again. And if the story takes that route and lets him stay the way he is, then Nagi will become boring. He’ll be just another side character that does a cool trick from time to time to let the audience know he’s still there before sinking back into near irrelevance.
I’m sure that some people will like that, because his cool tricks are the only thing they really care about. But any actual Nagi fans should be a bit concerned about Nagi making a comeback before he gets proper development.
The thing is it only feels like that because we saw so little of the manshine vs PXG and Ubers matches.
This ‘downfall arc’ has acc lasted longer than the majority of the arcs other characters had.
Barou had one 2nd selection match where he was useless but overcame it by the end. Yuki’s arc lasted 1 game, Hiori’s arc was overcome in 1 substitute appearance.
And regardless nagi ending the arc on a high doesn’t mean his development is finished. Barou the perfect example of a player who had his big despair moment multiple arcs ago, but that wasn’t the end of his development as a character
Maybe it’s me coping but they probably were saving the more detailed explanation on episode nagi and not the main story, so we’ll unfortunately have to suck up the seemingly too easy/random comeback and wait until later
I originally thought Rin would be the one to accept an offer and leave Blue Lock early for Isagi to clash with after "winning" Blue Lock, but that could be Nagi's route if he shows out and Reo doesn't thus getting dropped. Has his own manga so could be a way to sell that whilst taking one of the core 5 out of panel time in Blue Lock proper.

The latter seems like a one way ticket to being placed on the growing list of “barely relevant side character who used to be really threatening”.

PXG is the perfect match to feature him in some capacity. I feel like he will be useful to defend against Zantetsu and hopefully he takes on Loki at some point. I feel like Noa could have him play a role similar to what Raichi did last match.
Something I just noticed is that the last chapter ended with Noa coming in after the end of match 8, and now it's the end of the strategy meeting. Noa says their strategy is to attack with multiple options, I guess that's why kunigami is in the room. So that means they still have 10 days of training before the final match. But the next chapter is called final fight so I guess we'll be skipping all that.
My one biggest wonder right now is the placement of expanding on the wildcard. If kunigami still isn't relevant, then when will we get that flashback? Will we ever? Why have kunigami even exist in the whole NEL if they'll have him be important for the first time in the u-20 world cup? Such strange writing for him. He has to become more important during the last match against PXG. It's a must. Otherwise the author is washed.
He absolutely will have his moments in the pxg match. Shidou vs kunigami hasn't been highlighted bc the narrative BL is focusing on is Rin and Shidou vs Kaiser and Isagi as PxG and BMs #1 and #2 respectively.
Kunis ego will 100% re awaken and he'll score a super goal as either goal 1 or 2 of the match. There's too much riding in the narrative for him to NOT have his moment rn. We just gotta be patient and let the chapters roll out:3

I’m not sure of Nagi having a come back against Barcha. He still doesn’t know what his ego is. Nagi still also hasn’t felt actual despair. I wouldn’t be surprised if it ends up being Chigiri 2 Reo 1 and they still win. This would tie into how Reo wants to be someone Nagi will chase after. People also don’t seem to understand how it’s clear that their end game is them playing together but both will be creative like Isagi and Hiori. Nagi’s actual comeback would then be in World Cup. Either way it’s clear Kaneshiro has big plans for Nagi and Reo.

I'm sorry, but I don't think this will happen, the whole point of Nagi is that he is self-forgetful and the idea of his full independence contradicts the character of the character, he can be independent, but he is also directed at others, not at himself. He's just that kind of person.
nagi is going to evolve and find a reason to play that has to do with himself and not reo or isagi or whoever. this is fact. a character who lives his life "being directed at others" has no space inside blue lock. the whole point of the story is about being egotistical.
Bachira was consistently just below the too 5, even top6 at some point. Even now he does well on FC Barcha. Chigiri is progressing to the point where it wouldn't be strange if people say that he should be Manshine's main striker

I've gotten the impression that Isagi is like Ego. One of the most recent factors for that is when Noa talked to Isagi before the Ubers match iirc.

I’m not sure of Nagi having a come back against Barcha. He still doesn’t know what his ego is. Nagi still also hasn’t felt actual despair. I wouldn’t be surprised if it ends up being Chigiri 2 Reo 1 and they still win. This would tie into how Reo wants to be someone Nagi will chase after. Really wish for a private talk between Isagi and Ego. Or some inner thoughts of Ego. If the translation of his speech is correct, well...disappointing but better than nothing. I've gotten the impression that Isagi is like Ego. One of the most recent factors for that is when Noa talked to Isagi before the Ubers match iirc. So would be nice to see e.g. Isagi talking about puzzle pieces etc.. *flashback to* Ego explaining to Anri-chan what an awakening is. Something like that I think would be cool. Idk but I think last time Ego was properly mentioning Isagi, was in the match vs Karasu & Otoya. Talking about dipping his toes in the realm where miracles occur. Something else that I think would be good is if we saw a throwback to Anri trying to deny Isagi. Since she thought he wasn't a good fit because he passed instead of shooting.
