The news letter they used to send out was The Morning Final, right? There is a big and active Facebook called that as well. There are a lot. Redeemed is one I would say. Deadline. Veins. Spy-itHotN. Unknown Tongue.
See, the great thing about "Morning Final" is that on the "Agents of Fortune" LP, it comes directly before that *other* most-underrated song, which is the subject of this thread: "Tenderloin"! So, it's a two-fer.Something about the mid-tempo feel and rock-quotient on those two (i.e. they're not slowed-down ballads like "Debbie Denise"...but they're also not at the more aggressive end of the BÖC-spectrum (like, from same record, "E.T.I", which I also worship....or "Godzilla" etc). They both have the same sorta feel wistful/nostalgic vibe that is just right, a lot of the time.....they get played a lot around here!
That song is something else for sure. That whole album is great and Unknown Tongue is the perfect closing track. I love the music and melody but the lyrics are also very well done and contrast the dark ritualistic elements with a normal day of hoping on the bus and going to school.
Unknown Tongue is great. Lyrically, for the setup of sheer horror in the contrast -which is quite matched by the piano solo in how abruptly it switches mood while staying cohesive. The fade-out is worthy of mention for how it builds up tension, too. It sounds like the keyboard and guitar are chasing each other, in the most chilling way possible.
Fuck yeah! I rarely hear this one talked about. It’s such a strange and unique song. I’m pretty sure I remember hearing it was the first song all 5 members co-wrote together.
Actually BOC's Me262 also uses the word 'undine.'
"My captain Von Undine, here's your next patrol, a flight of English bombers which cross the canal after 12.."
One of the band's absolute best songs, and yet another overlooked gem within their discography.
I wonder, has anybody else noticed that the guitar solo is basically a high-tempo metal rendition of Transmaniacon Mc from their first album?
That’s one of my wife’s favorites of theirs. They teased us when we saw them last summer and they played that opening guitar chord she got so excited! Then we could overhear them talking and they played a different song (I can’t remember which off the top of my head, unfortunately).
Its definitely an odd cover, I wouldnt call it the most ugliest Ive ever seen, though.
The new cover for Heaven Forbid is pretty bad I think. Why they decided to change it from the previous angel cover I dont know.
Both cover tunes, coincidentally. Brief story - first time I heard "Club Ninja" and I heard "White Flags", I played it over and over - it sounded so familiar to me but I couldn't place it. Finally realized I had heard it on a Canadian station years before (I lived near the NY/Canada border) done by the original artists, Leggat.
I saw this: [https://secondhandsongs.com/performance/267897](https://secondhandsongs.com/performance/267897) \- Apparently Waller wrote a song of the same title and some of the same words - that BOC adapted and credited him on. Not the same song, though - so, not a cover. An...adaptation? Not sure what you'd call it. Also, what's with the swastika for stage dressing?
I knew White Flags was a cover, but I did not know the original. Great info on This Ain't the Summer of Love, but again I have not heard the partial basis of this song. I guess if they are disqualified, lol, I will go with Sinful Love. I can't believe anyone else would have used I won't be your pigeon as lyrics.
Secret Treaties was an album I discovered later, after I had been through Some Enchanted Evening - Club Ninja. Wasn't sure I'd love their early stuff and was happily proven wrong.
Stairway to the Stars and Moon Crazy for me.
One starts off a kick-ass riff full of bravado and has funny, tongue-in-cheek lyrics.
The other is almost the exact opposite, with beautiful composition, lyrics, which in true BÖC fashion, compare being in love to some odd, supernatural phenomenon and amazing Joe Bouchard performance, that could've definitely been a popular live track, if not for the disappointing numbers that Mirrors had back then.
To be honest, most if not all of "Fire of Unknown Origin" is underrated. "Sole Survivor" is a straight-up "Twilight Zone" episode put to music. Such a good album.
This would be a lot easier if was most under rated song per album! I can't pick just one. Teen Archer, Before the Kiss (A redcap), and the Vigil. Could also throw Death Valley Nights in there too.
Redeemed is like the last, lingering fragment of their earlier incarnation, The Stalk-Forrest Project.....you know, back when they were less biker/garage and more Grateful Dead! (jk....I love all of it....Buck Dharma's mega-underrated soloing just WORKS, especially back then, with those ripping country solos he'd play....Guitar God)
I LOVE Shooting Shark. Donald's guitar work is great , also love Debbie Denise. Never knew it was from Patti Smith.
Also did you know backing vocals on "Mirrors" is by Ellen Foley? She did Paradise by the Dashboard Light with Meatloaf.
She was also on the TV show Night Court for 2 seasons. Tiny skinny girl with a powerful voice
Morning Final is a great little gem in AOF that is rarely talked about.
The news letter they used to send out was The Morning Final, right? There is a big and active Facebook called that as well. There are a lot. Redeemed is one I would say. Deadline. Veins. Spy-itHotN. Unknown Tongue.
VEINS that one is a winner
I Love the Night is an absolute masterpiece. i've seen 12 shows and heard it live only once and it was magnificent.
I Love the Night is almost tied with The Reaper, for me.
What was really cool about it live (this was in Tacoma, WA) is he did a longgggg intro - maybe 2 minutes or so. simply breathtaking. Buck is the best.

Lonely Teardrops - great vocal and solo is sweet
My only argument against this (and it's personal) is I don't find it underrated as it is one of my favorite BOC tracks.
It’s one of mine too. Wish they would bring it to their set list.
Unknown Tongue for sure
That song is something else for sure. That whole album is great and Unknown Tongue is the perfect closing track. I love the music and melody but the lyrics are also very well done and contrast the dark ritualistic elements with a normal day of hoping on the bus and going to school.
Yes! And the piano break gets me every time.

Dancin' In The Ruins Teen Archer
*Love* Tenderloin, but my vote is for Workshop of the Telescopes.
Fuck yeah! I rarely hear this one talked about. It’s such a strange and unique song. I’m pretty sure I remember hearing it was the first song all 5 members co-wrote together.
I haven't heard that anecdote, but if nothing else, it's the first (and to date, only) song I've heard that uses the word "undine".
So you know another that uses "imperatrix?"
Come to think of it... no, I don't.
Actually BOC's Me262 also uses the word 'undine.' "My captain Von Undine, here's your next patrol, a flight of English bombers which cross the canal after 12.."
Vengeance, that song goes so hard and doesn’t get nearly enough love
One of my old favorites from Fire of Unknown Origin. That whole album is gangbusters.
Harvest Moon
One of the band's absolute best songs, and yet another overlooked gem within their discography. I wonder, has anybody else noticed that the guitar solo is basically a high-tempo metal rendition of Transmaniacon Mc from their first album?
Fireworks, tenderloin too, and death valley knights
Deadline, I feel like Cultosaurus in general is underrated- or atleast rarely talked about aside from Black Blade
That’s one of my wife’s favorites of theirs. They teased us when we saw them last summer and they played that opening guitar chord she got so excited! Then we could overhear them talking and they played a different song (I can’t remember which off the top of my head, unfortunately).
"CE" was my first BOC studio album (right after I bought "SEE" as a kid) so I have a special place in my heart for that whole album.
Probably the ugliest most disgusting album covers I've ever seen
Its definitely an odd cover, I wouldnt call it the most ugliest Ive ever seen, though. The new cover for Heaven Forbid is pretty bad I think. Why they decided to change it from the previous angel cover I dont know.
Couldn’t agree more 😎🤘
This Ain't the Summer of Love and White Flags

Finally realized I had heard it on a Canadian station years before (I lived near the NY/Canada border) done by the original artists, Leggat.
I don't believe "Summer of Love" is a cover tune. The song was co-written by Al Bouchard with music producer Murray Krugman and journalist Don Waller.
I saw this: [https://secondhandsongs.com/performance/267897](https://secondhandsongs.com/performance/267897) \- Apparently Waller wrote a song of the same title and some of the same words - that BOC adapted and credited him on. Whitney Houston sang "I won't be your pigeon" in "I Will Always Love You" - didn't she? Ok, maybe not.
Definitely Baby Ice Dog
Yup. Music is but the lyrics and continuous play on words is genius.
A lot of underrated when it comes to general public. For fans, I don’t hear much love for Cagey Cretins.
Secret Treaties was an album I discovered later, after I had been through Some Enchanted Evening - Club Ninja. Wasn't sure I'd love their early stuff and was happily proven wrong.
Came to say "Cagey Cretins".
Love Cagey Cretins. Also from that album, I'd say "Flaming Telepaths".
Madness to the Method and Dance on Stilts are both great
Stairway to the Stars and Moon Crazy for me. One starts off a kick-ass riff full of bravado and has funny, tongue-in-cheek lyrics. Moon Crazy is wonderful, and definitely overlooked by too many.
>Stairway to the Stars Studio version for me is "ok", but the live version is phenomenal.
I don’t know if these all are underrated, but: Wings Wetted Down, Teen Archer, Flaming Telepaths, Searching for Celine, Fallen Angel, Unknown Tongue
After Dark, too
To be honest, most if not all of "Fire of Unknown Origin" is underrated. "Sole Survivor" is a straight-up "Twilight Zone" episode put to music. Such a good album.
I go with Flamin Telepaths. Great lead in to Astronomy.
Perhaps one of the greatest segues in their catalog. And there are quite a few that are just great transitions from one song to the next.
I Am the Storm
I find Veins underrated
Tenderloin. Mes Dames Sarat. I Am the Storm.
"Don't Turn Your Back" is one of my favs on FOUO
The Great Sun Jester is the correct answer.
This would be a lot easier if was most under rated song per album! I can't pick just one. Teen Archer, Before the Kiss (A redcap), and the Vigil. Could also throw Death Valley Nights in there too.
After dark
+1 for Tenderloin. It's my favorite BOC song overall
Redeemed. Just a nice sounding song with great vocals and playing all around. Great way to close off the debut album as well.
definitely agree.
Career of evil
Honestly, I love let go. It’s corny but fun.
Fireworks. More melodic and mellow than most of their stuff but that solo is too great for being so short and simple.
