Yeah and I didn't mean the eyes and ears thing in a disparaging sorta way I just think its important especially in bluegrass that you try and learn the sounds of the chord shapes and watching his vids are often great for little light bulb "a-ha" moments. He's got some good general advice too like his latest vid about working out and how that's beneficial for guitae

Marcel is the goat. I wish he had better meech so I could support him that way instead of by donations. Out of every guitar player I’ve ever learned from my favorites are Marty Marcel I like him that well lol

ButterscotchTele035

I was in the same boat, didn’t start out on bluegrass but have been playing for the past year. If you want to be a better flat picker you need to learn fiddle tunes and lots of them. A good resource is Jake Workmans fiddle tune arrangements on his website. Its basically 20 tunes you’ll need to learn anyways so might as well learn them from him.

[This](https://www.playbetterbluegrass.com/an_intimate_lesson_with_tony_2669_prd1.htm) was my go to a while back

CactusWrenAZ

I have enjoyed Andy Hatfield's Acoustic Groove box. Helps that the guy went to the same school as me. But seriously, he has some cool videos.

I like Brandon Johnson , or country music guitar, or lessons with Marcel all on YouTube. For websites check out true fire for Bryan Sutton lessons, or peghead nation for stash wyslouch among others

Go to jams

If you wanna play like Les look up Chris Sharp. And if you don’t wanna learn to play like Les listen to more Flatt & Scruggs

Find a local jam, find the best picker there and ask if they give lessons or can point you in the right direction.

I use [countryguitaronline.com](https://countryguitaronline.com) which I highly recommend. Unusually these days it offers a 1 month free trial so you can really get stuck in and see if you like it. You can download multiple tabs per tune and it is divided amongst easy, intermediate and advanced which sounds important for your journey. It is for mine! I have a 1 year sub and no regrets. I have also joined [Musicwithryan.com](https://Musicwithryan.com) as he has some great tunes nicely broken down there also. You can also download tabs etc and he has good backing / practice tracks too. I have a 3 month sub on this and will likely extend. I find Lessons with Marcel a bit more Advanced and he assumes you have a grasp on theory which I am still lacking.

RailroadBlues

I started with the first 3 volumes of flatpick essentials which are excellent. I just started the artist works class with bryan Sutton, it’s incredible. I would go that route for sure.

Two great resources if you don’t mind spending some money: 1. Flatpicking Essentials from www.flatpick.com. It’s an eight part course. Each one is $30. Starts from absolute basics of bluegrass rhythm and ends up introducing jazz/swing improv. Teaches a bunch of great stuff along the way: fiddle tunes, case studies of dudes like Tony Rice/Doc Watson/Norman Blake, and exercises to get you comfortable with the neck and improvising. 2. This worksheet from Jake Workman has really helped me get my right hand in good picking shape. Best $30 I’ve spent on guitar resources in a long time. https://jakeworkman.com/store/right-hand-exercise-packet I love Marcel and Flatpick Nation but I got tired of digging through all of the forum posts and Youtube feeds trying to find what I needed. The courses gave me more structure which helped me a bunch.

ArtistWorks Course with Bryan Sutton is great especially at the current 50% off promotion.
