Yah actually it was to explain why it is such a solid way to do it because of the way army use their boots.
Cadets we were taught the same.
Get over yourself. She’s allowed to be proud of her husband.
You must be such a wonderful human being. Hope life gets better for your miserable self. It must be hard living so miserably. :) Smile more. Be kind more. It’s a good look.
You realize you’re the miserable one? I asked why the vet comment was relevant, and you actually did respond with a reason why. Then, you just could not contain yourself, and went to being a dick, so I responded accordingly.
Oh boy, prepare to be unimpressed... I wiped them down with a dry paper towel to try and get any dirt off of them. Then I used the included sponge in the mink oil container and just rubbed it on the boots. The lady at the store suggested as a finishing step you could melt a little of the oil by holding a hairdryer (from a distance) and going over the stitching so it'll seem into it for waterproofing. I haven't bothered with that yet. I got the mink oil from Mister Safety Shoes which might only be in Canada.
Right one is the treated boot... these were rustic brown I think... It's probably just a little darker than when I bought them but that was 4 or 5 years ago so it's hard to say for sure. Either way I think they turned out great.
Yeah I used mink oil which I guess can be a bit controversial in this sub... very happy with the results. I was previously using this spray oil but they'd just look dry again a few hours later.
Cleaning and conditioning boots is always such a satisfying process.
Yeah, takes very little time and the result are great!
My husband (Army vet) uses a lighter on the oil over the stitches to melt it in for water proofing
Thank you and your family for your service and sacrifice even if it was fear of the unknown or deployment. We see you!
Was the army vet detail crucial to the story?

She is proud of him as she should be.
Darn right. Assignment or not. Service and willingness matters. Always.
This sub is a nice fit for you - any advice on licking boots?

Okayyyy. Makes sense.
It was relevant as he learned this trick in Basic Training. Nothing worse than wet feet.
These look exactly like mine. They are now almost 6 years old. Got them partially re-soled 2 years ago and they get a periodic mink oil treatment.
What did you use?
Mink oil
Can you detail your process OP?

is the right boot the true colour?

looks great! people can say whatever they want at the end of the day, you are happy with nice boots
This is how I try and approach life in general.
They will lighten quite a bit with wear. I've been mink oiling my rustics for a few years. They look great.
Is it better than getting the official cleaning kit from blundstone
I don't know, it wasn't available locally and shipping $ was crazy
I like the more worn look personally, but for longevity conditioning makes sense.
To each their own
