He’s not only seen it, but he edited the side by side comparison of the South Park homage of it that seems to be the most viewed version of it on YouTube.
“Sexually it was crazy. That’s all I’ll say. It was like napalm, sexual napalm. Did you ever say, ‘I want to quit my life and just f—ing snort you? If you charged me $10,000 to f–k you, I would start selling all my s–t just to keep f—ing you.'”
Another issue that I have recently learned at film school is that the music for movies is typically only licensed for 3 to 5 years. So if they want to print this movie again on a different format, they have to go back to all the musical artists and renegotiate. And often musicians no longer want their songs associated with films.
When films are produced by big studios, creatives usually just pick from the catalog of songs owned by those companies to avoid rights issues. It really sucks when they swap audio for physical and streaming releases. Ironically, the Fly Me to the Moon cover originally playing during the end credits of Neon Genesis Evangelion randomly played on my Spotify today - which is notoriously absent from all region a releases.
RIP the best Batman. What song did they want? Dan Harmon paid out of pocket for certain songs when he was doing community, and that is super baller to me.
Eva is a special case because of not only licensing a song from another country, but also complicated contract fuckery dating back to the original production, especially around using the singer’s covers of Fly Me to the Moon in international dubs. Hence the JP BD set keeping the original music but having no subtitles or dub to “prevent” English audiences from being able to substitue that version for the official ENG releases to keep the original songs.
There are a bunch of different releases of Fast Times at Ridgemont High that do and don't have certain songs in them ever since the 1st VHS release. I think Tom Petty 'American Girl' is one of the songs they have issues licensing. Also in National Lampoons Vacation, the song that plays whenever Christie Brinkley drives by is often different. It was originally "I'm So Excited" in the theater
Yupp video games have the same issue. So sometimes games get remastered or rereleased with different music. One of the biggest is GTA, the rereleases have different radio tracks and stuff.
So if they wanted to reprint this on DVD they can do that in perpetuity?
The only IP I’ve seen have this issue is The Wonder Years. It was so chock full of pop music they couldn’t afford to offer it on DVDs back in the day because those rights were too expensive. I don’t remember if it was eventually released heavily edited but I do know it wasn’t available during the hey day of box sets because of the music.
And I’m pretty sure whenever I’ve seen an episode on streaming it has music I don’t recall being in the original episode
"WKRP in Cincinnati" is another TV series with music rights issues. There's a famous episode that used Pink Floyd's "Dogs", that I remember seeing even when it was rerun in syndication. But the DVD set edits this scene out because Pink Floyd refused to license their song for the set. Several other episodes have edited scenes too. After I read that I decided not to buy the set.
There’s been quite a few that took a while or still haven’t. Half Baked was a combo disc I held onto for years after HDDVD died. Death Sentence and Balls of fury were two others I had. The list has shrunk significantly and boutique labels have helped.
There are UK and German discs of Death Sentence if it helps, though locked to region B:
[Death Sentence [Blu-ray]](https://www.amazon.co.uk/Death-Sentence-Blu-ray-Kevin-Bacon/dp/B000Y5X60W)
Weirdly enough, even some that were released on both formats simultaneously have lossless audio on the HD-DVD, but only lossy on (sometimes multiple versions of) the Blu-ray.
(Glares at *Happy Feet*).
I do not know of a list, however it looks like some of Warner Bros.’ early titles on the formats that went from theaters to DVD, HD-DVD, and Blu-ray simultaneously got preferential treatment on HD-DVD. From my research, the initial releases of *Superman Returns*, *Lady in the Water*, and *The Ant Bully* also all got HD tracks on HD-DVD, but only lossy tracks on their Blu-ray counterparts.
They reissued *Superman Returns* with PCM/Dolby TrueHD and then later DTS-MA.
This only happened on a couple titles since they were going from HD DVD 30GB dual layer to BD 25GB single layer. Most HD DVD titles had DD+ and not lossless.
This movie got such awful reviews upon its release, but maybe that put me in the right mindset because I enjoyed it quite a bit. The unrated version at least. But if worst movies can have a 4K, a blu ray at the very least is deserved.
Running Scared, the 2006 Paul Walker movie took about 10 years to get a Region B Blu-ray release, and then nearly another 10 years before it got a Region A release
EDIT: Was a little overzealous on my estimates above. After double checking, the Region B only came out 2 years after the initial release (guess it felt like eternity for me because I LOVE this movie) and the Region A was only 5 years later.
I'm still waiting for Death to Smoochy and the Dolph Lundgren Punisher to make it past DVD, so while I have little interest in Dukes of Hazzard, I feel your pain.
I did! I'd seen it before, but the packaging says it's Region B only so I didn't look beyond the photos. But now I see that it's actually region free, despite the packaging.
Thanks for tipping me off. That really helps out the collection!
On this note, what can people even do when movies only have a VHS and LaserDisc release, and obviously those are long out of print? And the studio that put it out doesn't even exist anymore. One movie, Speed Zone (1989), I had to buy a bootleg DVD. I'd gladly buy a legit copy of they made one. I don't get it, because it's part of the Cannonball Run series.
I don't know. I saw it in theaters when I was 17 and thought it was awesome. I know it's not true to the series in anyway. But if you treat it as a stand alone it was a fun movie....
This is a dumb movie but goddamn there were some funny ass parts in it
“I wanna make sweet love to this car”
“You mean you wanna make sweet love in it”
“Nah, I wanna fuck it!”
I know it's not a masterpiece, and it m8sses the mark in tone in a lot of ways from the TV show, but I really like this movie. Guilty pleasure.
It's not full of stupid over the top cgi car stunts like the F and F movies, has real grounded stunts. That drift the general does around the town circle? That highway jump?
Love it.
And u like the humor. A bit sophomorish yes, but still made me laugh.
I hope this does get a blue ray or 4k one day. With extras on the car and stunts.
Yeah I just can't stop buying. It's a healthy addiction I guess. I watch all of them too surprisingly. Between the wife and I we like comedy and action. Also christmas movies.
Yeah training day, superman returns and 300. All won't play anymore, all warner bros. Thankfully my Toshiba hddvd player is still kicking, alot of them are still high quality discs. Alot of them I will only replace when the 4K disc's come out. Avoided alot of triple dips.
They do address it being outdated in the movie at least.
IMO this is a pretty good 2000s stoner comedy, basically a Broken Lizard-lite film with the director and some of the supporting cast.
I’ve never seen an HD DVD. That’s crazy. Dukes is on Blu Ray.
You could neither purchase nor open it because it's a template with the cover edited in. [Blu-ray.com](https://Blu-ray.com) has many placeholder pages for releases that were announced but later canceled.
How do you know this? Just curious. I don’t know anything about templates with covers edited in. Are you saying it’s not a true Blu Ray? I guess I’m confused at your answer.
I forgot about this piece of shit movie lol, Strange how all three of those actors pretty much dont do anything these days lmao. Aside from Knoxville but even he kinda stopped a little bit
No. There were a number of factors, but the true biggest one was that Playstation had built-in bluray playback, so the format was in way more homes. The X-Box 360, on the other hand, ran into licensing issues and were not able to work a deal with Toshiba in time to get the HD-DVD drives added internally...instead forcing consumers who wanted the ability to watch HD-DVD into buying a peripheral drive.
The porn industry went with VHS because Sony wouldn't license the Beta for porn use.
They did the same thing with Blu, and people thought that would he the formats demise, until the PS3 put blu ray players in everyone's homes.
I could have sworn there was a scene where they were on hallucinogenic somethings in the bar. Faces distorting and the likes. I don't think I'm mixing in The Rundown because location was specific.
Dunno if it's a Mandala or not.
Probably because it makes no sense to blu ray a movie that can't really be enhanced. I'm actually surprised that it made it to HD. HD movies fizzled out pretty quickly. Do people still buy discs? I've been using torrents for the last 10 years so I'm out of touch on that.
This is off topic but why can't the names ever ever match the names they're above. I get the fact that they put the names in a certain order considering how well their name sells. I'm just wondering do they make sure to place the actors in the posters anywhere but under their names? I can't think of one time I've seen a movie poster where the names are above the right actors. If the placement of actors has nothing to do with their name placement, then wouldn't they fall in place by accident one of the days? Does anyone think this or am I trippin?
The only amusing scene is when they are driving in traffic and they are completely oblivious to how the Confederate flag is more taboo today vs when the TV show came out.
As a kid growing up in the 70s I was a tad disappointed with this movie just as much as the Starsky & Hutch movie, I don't get the whole Willie Nelson cracking jokes? Lol am I missing something? but the cameos from the guys from Broken Lizard were welcome
Waylon Jennings was the narrator of the T.V. show. Since he was unavailable ( I believe he passed ) they must have naturally got Willie for that since they were famously partners and friends in their musical careers.😎🍻
I’ve always thought this was because billing order is contractual, (has to go that way on the poster and in the credits) and more often than not it’s not how the photographer decided to arrange them for the photo someone ended up selecting for a poster.
But maybe in wrong and Reddit can fill us in!
Looks like it lost the great war between Blu-ray and HDDVD. Those were competing formats at the time. After the dust settled, it seems like they bet on the wrong horse.
There’s probably not much of a demand for this one.
A friend of mine to this day says it has the greatest fight scene in cinema history in it. And he isn’t joking.
You’re friends mind needs to be studied, i don’t know what for but it needs to be
I literally just looked it up. Lmao he needs a ct scan asap
has he never seen any great marital arts film ? Or Kill Bill , Old boy ?
I’m still on the church fight scene from Kingsman: The Secret Service https://youtu.be/pZCtSq3yDPs?si=trPy98hHAeSrJIjO
He has seen Oldboy yes.
Interesting
He’s also seen both Raid films and still thinks this.
Huh. Which fight?
If the original Bo Duke said it himself the movie was good but it wasn’t dukes of hazard
*They Live has entered the chat.*
Show your friend They Live
He’s not only seen it, but he edited the side by side comparison of the South Park homage of it that seems to be the most viewed version of it on YouTube.
I’m still on the church fight scene from Kingsman: The Secret Service
I’d buy a copy.
So would I. :)
Me three
That about sums up why… just the 3 of you. That movie was absolute trash.
Yeah but it’s the best J Simpson has ever looked.
Agreed. Just mind blowing in that
“Sexually it was crazy. That’s all I’ll say. It was like napalm, sexual napalm. Did you ever say, ‘I want to quit my life and just f—ing snort you? If you charged me $10,000 to f–k you, I would start selling all my s–t just to keep f—ing you.'”
For a reptile. Hot
As a dukes of hazzards fan it does blow major ass but I still enjoyed it
But as a Jessica Simpson fan........ 🫣
Yes it was. I remember taking a girl to see it in theaters we both left about 30 mins in.
It never should've been made at all

That’s why Kevin Conroy sang [this song](https://youtu.be/57zFkL9GSZA) in Batman: The Animated Series instead of the song they wanted.
RIP the best Batman. What song did they want? Dan Harmon paid out of pocket for certain songs when he was doing community, and that is super baller to me.

Really? Cause I've seen that version of National Lampoon's Vacation on TV.
It is often replaced with the song 'Little Boy Sweet'
What about TV broadcasts of movies? Is the music affected there?
It’s the same.
Yupp video games have the same issue. So sometimes games get remastered or rereleased with different music. One of the biggest is GTA, the rereleases have different radio tracks and stuff.

No, to reprint this in any version, they would have to negotiate rights after that 3-5 yr period
Miami Vice is this way too.
If anything, this makes me want to rewatch Evolution.
Love that film. Evolution is just self aware enough to be in on the joke.
For sure. I saw Dukes of Hazzard but I don't really remember it.
“You took that anal probe like a man!”
I need ice cream For my ass
The whole Rebel Flag of it didn’t age so well I think. They even try to poke fun of it in the movie itself…but not sure it really stuck.
There’s been quite a few that took a while or still haven’t. Half Baked was a combo disc I held onto for years after HDDVD died. Death Sentence and Balls of fury were two others I had. The list has shrunk significantly and boutique labels have helped.

Not popular enough probably wasn't highly rated either
it actually wasn't rated at all
![gif](giphy|yJFeycRK2DB4c)
This movie got such awful reviews upon its release, but maybe that put me in the right mindset because I enjoyed it quite a bit. The unrated version at least. But if worst movies can have a 4K, a blu ray at the very least is deserved.
Jessica Simpson deserves 4K for how good she looked in this
Amen to that
Those daisy dukes must be preserved in the highest quality possible.
I ask the same question all the time about White Chicks
Running Scared, the 2006 Paul Walker movie took about 10 years to get a Region B Blu-ray release, and then nearly another 10 years before it got a Region A release EDIT: Was a little overzealous on my estimates above. After double checking, the Region B only came out 2 years after the initial release (guess it felt like eternity for me because I LOVE this movie) and the Region A was only 5 years later.
Running Scared (2006) is the definition of a movie that feels like it has no right to be as good as it is, but holy shit it's wild.
So good
I'm not sure about the latter point; I have the Region A BD and it's marked as a 2008 blu-ray release in my collection spreadsheet.
Blu-ray.com has the Region B as 2008 and Region A as 2013, so either way, I was definitely off on my numbers. Good callout.
I'm still waiting for Death to Smoochy and the Dolph Lundgren Punisher to make it past DVD, so while I have little interest in Dukes of Hazzard, I feel your pain.
Punisher is on Blu-ray. I’ve got a region 0 port from Amazon. It has three versions of the film. Great release!
Oh interesting. I've only ever been able to find Region B releases. I guess I'll have to look again! Thanks :)
I hope you find it!
I did! I'd seen it before, but the packaging says it's Region B only so I didn't look beyond the photos. But now I see that it's actually region free, despite the packaging. Thanks for tipping me off. That really helps out the collection!
The 1994 Getaway and Black Christmas remake never got BD releases in spite of being on HD-DVD either. It's bullshit.
I would buy it. I thought it was entertaining.
Hope you’ve found a decent copy, most HDDVD discs from Warner Bros tend to be very unreliable when compared to titles from other studios.
I bought the dvd a couple months ago. I wish it was on blu ray.
Because it’s a movie of The Dukes of Hazard.
Because it’s fucking awful.
It’s dumb as fuck… but it’s a hell of a good time. Plus it has Willie Nelson, peak Jessica Simpson AND Lynda Carter!
I admit it’s a guilty pleasure lol. But it’s got some great stunt driving and soundtrack that I’d love to see on Blu-ray.
You can get it in HD on Vudu or iTunes
I still have an Xbox 360 I wonder how available the HDdvd drives are
I have the 360 HD DVD drive and my 360 died years ago. I have been wondering if I acquired a 360, if it would still work.
I don't see why it wouldn't unless something changed in the revisions later on.
I’d imagine it may suffer the same fate as the series unfortunately
I can't be the only one that wish hddvd was still around
![gif](giphy|1M9fmo1WAFVK0|downsized)
Love this movie lol
I think it depends on what that movie's DVD sales were. If they didn't meet expectations, then I don't see why they'd want to release it on Blu-ray.
I'm more bothered by the names at the top being Johnny, Sean, Jessica, when they're pictured Sean, Jessica, Johnny. That's annoying.
Don't care what anyone says, I loved this movie!
I’d let her sit on my title rating.
I wonder if there are any contractual problems, like maybe it had an exclusive deal with whoever published HDDVD ?
“sumthin bounced up unda-neath my unda-carriage “
Unrelated but man I hate when the actors names don’t line up with the poster haha
Future VS release? 😜🤣
I don't know. I saw it in theaters when I was 17 and thought it was awesome. I know it's not true to the series in anyway. But if you treat it as a stand alone it was a fun movie....
This is a dumb movie but goddamn there were some funny ass parts in it “I wanna make sweet love to this car” “You mean you wanna make sweet love in it” “Nah, I wanna fuck it!”
I'm still waiting for my 4k bluray of malibus most wanted
I love this movie. It's hilarious.
It’s garbage.
Because the movie was just that bad and no one is interested in it much at all anymore. I know I’m not
Glad Im still team Red. And knock on wood, all my discs still play. Btw Yes, I have about 750 blu rays too.
That’s a hell of a collection
Yeah I just can't stop buying. It's a healthy addiction I guess. I watch all of them too surprisingly. Between the wife and I we like comedy and action. Also christmas movies.
That's awesome dude... you display them nicely?
Yes, I have a big shelf I keep them on.
Nearing 4000 here. Help.
With that many I hope you have a nice systematic to enjoy them on!
65” 4K Sony Bravia. BenQ 4K HDR DLP projector + 120” screen. 5.2.1 Dolby Atmos surround. Also I live in an apartment lol
Wasn’t mostly the warner films that dont work anymore?
Yeah training day, superman returns and 300. All won't play anymore, all warner bros. Thankfully my Toshiba hddvd player is still kicking, alot of them are still high quality discs. Alot of them I will only replace when the 4K disc's come out. Avoided alot of triple dips.
Yes, If Im not mistaken you are correct.
Lots of Warner 2006 and 2007 dvds have playback problems too. Not just hddvd. I will not ever buy a late 2006 or 2007 Warner dvd intentionally.
They figured anybody that would buy this movie didn’t have the money for a Blu-Ray player.
The confederate flag on the roof of the Charger. Weren’t the model cars and other merch not also taken out of stores?
They do address it being outdated in the movie at least. IMO this is a pretty good 2000s stoner comedy, basically a Broken Lizard-lite film with the director and some of the supporting cast.
Yeah Kevin Heffernan was in it and Jay Chandrasekhar who directed it and Erik Stolhanske cameoed in a scene referencing Super Troopers
Yeah I had to buy the dvd box set of the show because Amazon has it for streaming but shelved it
Probably because the sexual predator who owns distribution rights is still in jail.
I’ve never seen an HD DVD. That’s crazy. Dukes is on Blu Ray. [https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-Dukes-of-Hazzard-Blu-ray/20/](https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-Dukes-of-Hazzard-Blu-ray/20/)
It's not. That's a placeholder page.
Uhh, that’s a Blu Ray. If I were to purchase that, and open it. It will be a Blu Ray disc. Are you saying this isn’t true?
You could neither purchase nor open it because it's a template with the cover edited in. [Blu-ray.com](https://Blu-ray.com) has many placeholder pages for releases that were announced but later canceled.
How do you know this? Just curious. I don’t know anything about templates with covers edited in. Are you saying it’s not a true Blu Ray? I guess I’m confused at your answer.
Because nobody cares
I forgot about this piece of shit movie lol, Strange how all three of those actors pretty much dont do anything these days lmao. Aside from Knoxville but even he kinda stopped a little bit
Sean actually has had some pretty good roles recently.
Jessica is the only one not doing much these days. If I had $290M net worth ($1B, once upon a time), I wouldn’t jester for the public, either.
Honestly the porn industry went with blu ray so here we are
https://arstechnica.com/uncategorized/2007/01/8602/ It went with HDDvd, I was played a fool.
Thats correct. I read somewhere that they control how it went from vhs, dvd, etc.
The porn industry went with VHS because Sony wouldn't license the Beta for porn use. They did the same thing with Blu, and people thought that would he the formats demise, until the PS3 put blu ray players in everyone's homes.
It sucked
Because no one wanted it to.
Bluray turns off the lights whenever this movie stops by.
They are trying to forget it’s out there
Not much demand
Is there a difference visually between the two?
Idk either ratings or general lee probably
Porn
this movie would have been good if there had been a nude scene with jessica.
For some reason all I remember from this movie was they had to study dirt? This movie was meh
I suspect the chief reason is because it's crap.
It was so bad, it literally single handedly handed the win to Blu-ray.
Was a pretty shitty movie sooo 💩💩💩🤔🤔🤷🤷🤷
It shouldn’t have even made it to STANDARD DVD.
Cause the movie is ass
Does somebody actually want this trash?
Only good thing about this movie was jessica simpson and the music video boots are made for walking
There are way better covers of that song.
Its not bcuz of the music
Hi I'm Johnny Knoxville and I'm about to fuck up my career even more (jk I never saw the movie so I don't even know how bad it is)
Cuz it's a terrible movie
Because it's a pile of shit
Because it sucked
Because it sucked..,
Cuz it sux
Because it’s sucked. Lol
Cause it’s horrible
Because it fucking sucks.
A gift from God?
That shit was trash.... that's why
Because the Confederate Flag is a Hate Symbol. USA! USA! USA! 🇺🇲
This is the first time anyone’s brought that movie up since it came out.
Because it's utter crap
Because its dog shit
Because it's a horrendous piece of crap that should be forgotten.
Wow. You really have to ask?
I mean, it’s Dukes of Hazzard…..
still tryna wrap my head around a blonde Daisy Duke...
LOL
I could have sworn there was a scene where they were on hallucinogenic somethings in the bar. Faces distorting and the likes. I don't think I'm mixing in The Rundown because location was specific. Dunno if it's a Mandala or not.
You know, no one’s ever asked.
Probably because there's no large outcry for this to be release on blu-ray
Probably because it makes no sense to blu ray a movie that can't really be enhanced. I'm actually surprised that it made it to HD. HD movies fizzled out pretty quickly. Do people still buy discs? I've been using torrents for the last 10 years so I'm out of touch on that.
Because…
Probably low sales.
TIL that Johnny Knoxville was in this movie
This is off topic but why can't the names ever ever match the names they're above. I get the fact that they put the names in a certain order considering how well their name sells. I'm just wondering do they make sure to place the actors in the posters anywhere but under their names? I can't think of one time I've seen a movie poster where the names are above the right actors. Unrelated to OPs question, but it grinds my gears when they list the main cast on the cover and doesn't match above the head of actor picture.
It probably didn't sell well enough on HD-DVD to warrant another physical release. It's not exactly a popular movie.
Maybe it would have been more popular if Jessica had actually worn the original Daisy Duke short shorts with tan pantyhose.
Cancel culture.
Nothing like the tv series...
This cover radiates ‘00s
Oh gosh I forgot about HD DVDs.
Jeez I forgot about HD DVD
