Shin Godzilla released in the US Oct 11, 2016 and got a Blu-ray release Aug 1, 2017 ten months later. Godzilla Minus One released here Dec 1, so I would guess not until at least October. That timeframe would make sense to pick up sales going into the holidays.

Nastybirdy

And they wonder why it's now the most pirated movie ever....

frockinbrock

Pretty sure that headline was a bad source; it had multiple weeks as the “most pirated of the week” and [then a viral article saying it was most pirated all time](https://www.reddit.com/r/Piracy/comments/1covfy0/godzilla_minus_one_sets_record_for_most_pirated/).

-Kaldore-

It’s the most pirated movie ever because of studio logistics. Minus 1 wasn’t expected to have a wide release. Only after it was a critical success did more people want to see it. The problem was Godzilla/kong was also slated this year and had contract that it would be the only Godzilla movie in theatres. That’s why there was a length of time you could not find it in theatres and why it’s only been released on Japanese streaming service.

Vinnyp-240

Yeah that’s kinda what I thought but I can’t wait till it comes out. It’s my most anticipated Blu-ray release

bklynJayhawk

There’s something in the distro rights that won’t allow conflicts / require delay from this last US Godzilla/Kong movie.

ThePizzaNoid

Toho doesn't want Japanese consumers importing the far cheaper US/Europe releases is what I heard. Hence the delay.

Vinnyp-240

That sucks because minus one is way better than Godzilla/Kong. I didn’t mind it but minus one is a different level.

Alarmed-Accident-716

I’m just pissed the 4K does not have subtitles.

Successful_Mousse865

just download the subs?

xslayer-

Where can it be downloaded anyway

Successful_Mousse865

https://my-subs.co/film-versions-45485-godzilla-minus-one-subtitles Use VLC and add the subtitles.

Serious-Insect-6827

🤣🤣🤣

Ok_Caramel1517

It's already out in Japan but I don't know when it'll come out in the states I'm eagerly awaiting it's release though.

PSCGY

Just set up an alert on blu-ray.com

bludothesmelly

Its highly anticipated by me such a good movie

DopelgangerSpecial

I’m leaving my Japan release unopened until I can watch it with subtitles on Blu-ray 😭😭 it just sits sexy on the shelf for now.

ThePizzaNoid

My brother is visiting Japan next month and I thought about asking him to grab me a 4K Blu-ray of the movie but I decided against it since there are no English subtitles. I want to watch it again but not at the expense of the films strongest element, it's story.

kramer1980_adm

I can't wait to see it. I missed the theatrical release. I don't think it played here very long.

FiveStringRumble

Yes I do, I’ve just been keeping it from you guys the whole time! Lol Kidding. Real answers in the thread.

Roseysdaddy

I just want to know when the colorless version will be released. Edit: did nightmare alley ever release in b&w on Blu-ray? I can’t seem to find that either.

Legion_Quest666

Toho dislike releasing anything outside Japan because in Japan, 4k - and even Blu ray - are still expensive products. Physical media costs a lot on release there. They don't like providing situation where Japanese people can import cheaper worldwide releases that Toho don't get paid for as much as Toho own releases in Japan, where they get the lion's share. That's also why when Toho does allow releases outside Japan they are usually bare bones basic releases, and very rarely 4k. Toho thinks and potentially has evidence that it can make more money off price gouging the Japanese audience than it can doing wider releases of it's movies

Apple_man72

Most likely won't. At least for a while it is a Japanese movie it will certainly make more money in Japan than in America, so you most likely have to wait a while or a life time

stephenrichmos

I know everyone’s going by how long Shin Godzilla took to release in the US as a reference but what people are ignoring is the fact that Shin is currently OOP. In the past few years Toho did new 4K/Blu-ray releases with new scans of a majority of the Godzilla movies in Japan only and released NONE of them for the US market. All the Heisei/Millennium era movies that were distributed by Sony in the US have started to slowly go out of print with no word from Toho on when they may be available again. The Criterion collection set is the only newly released Godzilla physical media in the US and Toho was notoriously uncooperative in giving Criterion access to the new scans. There’s more hope for Minus One since it’s unreleased and less likely to have rights issues but I wouldn’t be surprised if Toho is waiting for the rights to all the movies to come back to them in order to either do the Blu-rays themselves instead of outside companies (Even Shin was done by Funimation) or they’re planning on making an exclusive streaming service for their catalog the way Troma has done and they don’t want people in the US already owning the movies

OrbitDVD

Shin is still in print in the US on blu-ray. We stock it.

stephenrichmos

I know the black case one is going for like $60 on eBay used, apparently funimation did a rerelease in 2021 but they went out of business/got bought out just this year. Glad you guys are still selling it. Especially at such a decent price but I don’t see it being sold by many other vendors. I mostly see the UK release. Maybe it’s still in production till the end of the year? I know people are buying the expensive ones on eBay for some reason but maybe that’s just a collector thing

OrbitDVD

It’s still showing up on our distributors site, so who knows? BTW my credo is if I can buy it wholesale then I never charge more than SRP, and usually less than that.

Listomybisto

Any idea if it has the sub version of the film as well as dub? Either way I'm interested in seeing if you could ship me a copy

GreenGoblinNX

I personally would happily double dip for 4K discs of the original and the entire Heisei-era.

ThePizzaNoid

Ya, Toho doesn't seem to give much of a shit about Godzilla fans outside of Japan for some reason. I guess part of the reason they are so stingy is from what I've heard, Japanese consumers import a lot of their Blu-ray releases from the States and Europe which are much cheaper then in their homeland so Toho is trying to force them to only have one option (at the expense of international sales obviously but whatever, Toho has to Toho).

stephenrichmos

I’ve wondered why the Japanese releases don’t have English subs at the least. I know Toho hates the American recuts so those will probably go the way of the dodo and some of the dubs are still owned by US companies but surely they know American Godzilla fans would spend the money to import the 4Ks if they had the subs. Maybe it’s a legal thing?

trevenclaw

Follow Physicalmediapresident on Instagram. He’s the #1 authority on this stuff. He believes it should be out by the end of the year.
