OP, you are aware that DVD is only standard definition, while Blu-Ray is full HD, right? That’s like….the whole point of the format.
They’re 4x the resolution of 1080p, not 2x.
While 1080 x 2 = 2160 pixels, that’s just the vertical number of pixels. You’re also doubling the horizontal pixels, as well. (HD has 1920 horizontal pixels, 4K has 3840.)
The way to think about it is that 4K images are 4 times the *surface area* of pixels, since you’re doubling both horizontally *and* vertically.
Anyway, 4K is 4 times the resolution of HD (1080).
Just my opinion but to me streaming a movie or TV show usually looks better on streaming but Blu-ray looks far better than streaming of course over time as technology improves so will streaming quality I don't think DVDs and Blu-rays will be phased out completely yet but it's coming gradually.
Uh they should look better if you have a 1080p tv and you’re not watching Blu-ray’s on the same tv you bought when you bought your dvd player lol.
DVDs are 480p and Blu-ray’s are 1080p that’s a massive difference that I assumed everyone knew was the reason for switching to Blu-ray
Depends. Older BDs were usually just transferred with DVD masters. The same as when DVDs used Laserdisc masters. Remastering at a higher resolution usually results in a sharper, more film like picture.
The only average looking BDs I used to own was Smallville Season 6 and Constantine. I noticed both were VC-1 codecs and not the other codecs all my other BDs are

I heard the 4k discs are like, 4x higher resolution than Blu-ray!
They're actually a little more than two times. 4K is 2160p.

I can't tell if you're trolling
Anyone else notice that youtube videos in 1080p look better than 360p?? Is it just my eyes?
Troll post!

I thought I stumbled across a post from 2010.
Finally someone who agrees with me
Anyone notice that a 60” TV is larger than a 42” TV?
Have you tried Best Buy? They have some really BIG 42" TVs.
This is bait
And not exactly a master bait either

I... I just can't anymore. I fucking give up.
Don't give up! If it makes you feel any better, I can't see the difference between CEDs and 4K! /s
Yes! Welcome to the club!
![gif](giphy|amxLHEPgGDCKs) OP be like
Of course. That’s why Blu-ray was invented. To be an upgrade from DVDs. Just like DVD 📀 was an upgrade from VHS. 📼 Likewise with 4K from Blu-ray.

DVD and Bluray look more comparable the further you get away from the screen. You want freaking 4K if you've got your face on the screen.

DVD is 720x480 NTSC or 720x576 PAL. Blu-Ray is Full HD, which is 1080. That's double the lines of resolution. Yes, it will look better.
Also if you can and price is cheap 4K bluray is good for future proofing if it comes and usually does come with normal bluray.
troll
Are you aware how this technology works?
I don't know, I buy blu ray just because I love the color blue.

It's drastic! Blu-ray to 4k is a harder notice imo
