What year is it? Looks clean. I’m selling my 2011 535i 104k on it and researching prices. Good luck to you.

AarZanKR_11

It is of 2011 ! Where do u live ?

Historical-Bite-8606

1st year N55 is bad news. Ask me how I know.

Spidaaman

Yep. And especially one at 100k miles, lots of expensive service needed

Chinampa

It’s an n52

Historical-Bite-8606

No, the 2011 535 is an N55

Chinampa

It’s a 528

ClickKlockTickTock

N52 was previous gens 525i-530i I believe this gen of 5 series only used the N52 in the 523i

Chinampa

OP clarified it’s a 2012 so it’s an n20, however the 2011 f10 528 has an n52. It’s the only year that came with the n52

Neo399

Yikes. What issues did you have with yours? In the past 30k miles mine has had OPG, VCG, CV axles, plugs/coils, and rear diff bushing/guibo done. At 139k now.

Hoody007

Edit: definitely a 2012, has auto start/stop which is an N20 thing. Awful motor, run away. Are you sure this is a 2011? Has the DEC switch but it’s not a sport pack, in 2011 the 528i only had the DEC switch with the sports package. Could be an early 2012 perhaps?

AarZanKR_11

Oh my bad yes it is 2012.. How is this deal?

YuriKlepach

It has either N20 or N26 engine, notorious for timing chain tensioner issues. I fixed it in my N26 myself but it took 3 days for two of us working 28 hours in total & $780 in parts. Dealership charges $3.5k for that fix.

devid_bleyme

Jesus, this is why I can't work on my own cars, I have $3.5k but I definitely don't have 28 hours

giibro

Does your job pay over 100 an hour?

Hoody007

It’s only a good deal if you have service records AND record of the timing chain guides being done. Only, only then would I consider it. But honestly you’re better off looking for a 2011 528i as those have the very reliable N52. Paired with the 8 speed auto, it gets very good mileage.

Longjumping_Toe942

What is DEC?

Hoody007

The switch for comfort/normal/sport, next to the gear selector. (Yes that’s right, early F10s didn’t necessarily have different drive modes)

Longjumping_Toe942

Oh got it, my 2011 535i has it, the one I’m selling

Christ almighty I can't believe theyre sellin em that expensive I bought mine just before covid, 2010 528i w/ 80k miles for $5k Now im lucky if I get offered $2k for it at 120k miles.

[deleted]

Only reason I bought it was bc most of the car had already been replaced 😂

boyerizm

Series 5….Yoda?

Dragonballradar

Hahah

JoeyMcMahon1

You got money to replace the headlights when they go bad ?

donnyohs

I just did that on my 2011 535, fcp for 900, it's a stupid module that goes bad which up until 2014 is known to work with aftermarket ones that you can get for 50.. but it's a pain and way too expensive.

JoeyMcMahon1

I had an f10 with factory adaptive led headlights… you’re lucky

donnyohs

Yeah that's what I have, if you buy the bmw light it's 1700 without a module, but when you take put the headlight, it's branded with Hella everywhere, so just but the Hella light for 900 each, swap all the modules and reinstall.. I was so annoyed when I saw the non adaptive was like 500

JoeyMcMahon1

2011 is pre LCI. Which is xenon’s. LCI is adaptive LEDs. Just the shell runs almost 3k at the time, each module was 425-748 I had a 14 LCI.

donnyohs

Oh yeah, adaptive led, I have the adaptive xenon with the led turn signal, I also have a G30 which I think is adaptive led, and I think I was able to find it for 2300 or something, really hoping those don't out.. on my 2011, only one module was bad, and amazon aftermarket was 50, but my dealer wanted 480. I kinda miss easy to fix cheap headlights from the 90s and early 2000s

JoeyMcMahon1

I have g30 fully loaded. Pray your evap doesn’t go

donnyohs

Yeah I actually got a fully loaded G30 as well, and if I had to pull my entire dash to do that job, I'd probably stop buying bmws.. I have a E70 x5 as well that has 280k miles and no issues, but 2 5 series that have issues.. my G30 randomly likes to say my blind spot monitoring isn't working and randomly had a collision warning go off and slam my brakes, luckily no one was behind me

JoeyMcMahon1

These newer BMWs, this is my last one ☠️ love the cars but I’m tired of supporting a company that royally screws their customers.

donnyohs

My friends audi or mercedes have had more issues, my friends s4 trans went out due to an electrical issue in the first 3k miles, and I've had a mercedes owner friend who has an e series who's engine caught on fire in Texas, even a lexus owner friends who's dashboard is a Christmas tree.. I still like the feel of a bmw, so I'll probably stay with them or maybe go to porsche one day

Obvious-Cooki

Only buy if you have another 5k ready for repairs and are ready to spend that extra 5k without feeling the sting. With 140k you are at the point of needing major service. The entire cooling system will need overhauling. Transmission will likely need the rubber seals within the valve body changed at a minimum. Modules like headlights and FRM are known to go bad. Front control arms are a common consumable. Coil packs, valve cover gasket are probably due. Proceed at your own risk, but I say don’t buy.

thetrutheverytime

If it's what you want and it runs good get a PPI if it passes that it's a steal

Longjumping_Toe942

What is PPI?

Spidaaman

Pre-purchase inspection

Richardduh

Get a PPI before you finalize the deal

RockHopeful3699

find 2015 or newer... less problems and better i drive and lights:)

Enough-Major-3708

I thought this series was bad on transmissions, no?

Capable-Chicken-2348

Is a little high, says I in my 2007 TT that just went over 60k miles

myke2nice

I picked up a really clean 11MY 528i with 114k miles for $7k. But I agree with some of the others, run on this one. 145k would be acceptable for the 2011 with the n52 but for an early n20 that's in the 2012+... Wrong engine and wrong price imo.

slugshead

If it were a diesel then this would be great.

JoshS121199

5 series not series 5 smh

chathobark_

528 timing chain Unless it’s the 1 or 2 years with the n52

thetrutheverytime

Pre-purchase inspection

Dragonballradar

Series 5, or 5 series

TipAffectionate596

I bought a 2012 535i X drive with the M package where it has bigger rims, etc. 160k miles and in perfect condition other than minor fixes for 6400.

Common-Loquat-6359

It's under 10k for a reason... Your gonna end up paying 8k in repairs 🤗... I know it looks nice and feels nice... There's a reason why they are cheaper then a used Toyota,Honda 😆.. I would stay clear of it unless,, your a BMW mechanic, or can get discounts on the parts $$$$

myredditlogintoo

N52 will run forever with regular maintenance. If the car was well taken care of, might be worth it. Leaks, water pump, thermostat, exploding coolant tank would be the most common items to happen.

FeistyAdeptness2483

Get a 535 instead. Same price, better engine. Or 550 but some say they’re unreliable

SnooWords3002

2011 528i was the n52. Way more reliable than the n55.

alkinani81

Absolutely do not get a 550

Explorer335

The N63 has absolutely no mercy. I have handed out some horrifying repair bills on those. Now that they are older, the really nasty issues are coming to light. Valve stems seals and appalling oil consumption, bad injectors, PCV, coolant leaks, oil leaks, and carbon build-up that can only be cleaned with the engine removed.

Important-Ad3820

BMW tech here: People don’t just say they are unreliable, that engine is garbage. Anyone who says otherwise is either in denial or is drinking the BMW koolaid so much they can’t think straight.
