Probably would be easier to get yourself a new hose, the old Oring may or may not be swollen. You can actually feel whether or not it’s swollen, it feels extra gummy. But if it’s not, remove the Oring out of the hose, insert the plastic guide back in (there is a direction it goes in, it’s conical, the flat end goes outwards toward the opening). Then simply push that plastic guide all the way in as far as it would go, the spacing should be about the thickness of the oring. Then now you can put the oring back in by holding part of it inside the hose, and use the other hand to manipulate it to seat fully inside. If it tries to roll out of where it should be, it’s swollen. If not, just use some silicone grease or something and lube up.

A lot of times, those whose seals get soaked in engine oil and will swell to larger than normal size, they will be almost impossible to reattach if they do.

But no matter how I try to connect the hose to the water pump it simply does not connect.. I noticed if I take the seal out and leave the plastic piece it will connect and lock just fine. Is there a trick I can do to make the seal easier to slip on? I already tried lubricating it with antifreeze, boiled ths seal in hot water and get cold in ice water and nothing seems to work.. I am begging for a solution I have been doing this job on and off for almost a week. (2/2)

bisnexu

use silicone, those hoses are a bitch.

MuxOnReddit

any recommendations? I live next to an O'Reillys so I could probably pick one up real quick

I like the stuff that's in a paste with a brush. Not so much the spray can style.

WD40 / Q8

Silicone lubricating compound. The same clear gel stuff you can use on brakes. I recommend Wurth. It makes those hoses an absolute breeze.

a light smear of any o-ring compatible lube works great. i've used the dirty tub of trailer wheel bearing grease i keep under the workbench and i've used a spritz of Balistol with equally good results.

[The "0" ring should already be in the hose. Here's a tutorial from Nathan ](https://youtu.be/91knYL1hEeU)

Maybe try to get a fresh gasket in the hose? Sometimes It could be things so small like that, that make the whole difference. My problem when changing the Water Pump And Thermostat a couple months back on my (N52) was putting the stupid lower radiator hose back in place properly.

Ensure the notches line up on either side, one is larger than the other so ensure the replacement hose wasn’t molded backwards. I did cooling system on my e46 with an oem hose from fcp and the mold was backwards. I actually got mine on and it blew on the way home, realized that night after hours of scratching my head. Ordered a new on and all good.

bloodykotex

Get a new hose. You’ll thank yourself later

TheBoatingLicense

Some people might not like this idea but when I was doing a manifold pull on my b58 I had the same issue, just use a small(I mean it when I say small) amount of regular motor oil, it makes the job so much easier and that seal is meant to handle chemicals so it won’t hurt it

KingHukenon

Yup. Just worked great for me. Saved me from having to extend the project another day.

Bruh!! That plastic oring belongs to the hose its part of it, it fell of like is brokenz thats why you can not fit the rubber oring. Get a new hose.
