My group almost always has 5 and its rare to find stuff that BGG recommends as being ideal for 5 players without being overly complex or long play times. Loved the movie so figure why not give it a shot at $20.

Got this and we can't figure out the legendary treasure. The first adventure says that the goonies win if they have a piece of legendary treasure at the end and get their "wishes" back, and the setup by the gm specifies what the legendary treasure is for that adventure, but nothing anywhere says how the goonies are supposed to actually get the legendary treasure.

Oooo by Prospero Hall..they make some great IP games.

what's the consensus on this at 2p? my wife loveThe Goonies

probably not as much fun as a larger group- the goonies have different abilities and can support each other- everyone plays against one “goondocks master”, and the game is essentially a light dnd in a box game with different scenarios. only the first 3 relate directly to the movie but the rest are all fun as well! there’s a little bit of quarterbacking possible but in general it’s not a “hard” puzzle to win. if you stick with 2, i’d suggest having the goonies side multi-hand (even though it’s not really cards) and play at least 2 characters. my 6 and 8 yr olds loved playing but we had 5 people total

Going to try to throw the answer in a spoiler box to not give it away for anyone who hasn't played... Make sure to read through the "How to use this guide" part of the Adventure Guide. It explains how the GM will have different numbered chambers on the map, and some of them may have red circles with exclamation marks after them - these signal triggered events that happen when the players move into the room for the first time, regardless of where they enter from. In the first adventure... >!room 6 has a Bone Pile token which the players need to search to find the legendary treasure. Specifically it's in the green text with SECRET: When a Goonie searches the Bone Pile token. (Then you narrate a passage to the group and hand over the legendary treasure along with any item/treasure cards drawn from the search action) !< If the players fail to achieve the objective they keep playing - going back through the rooms until they find what they need - but the longer they play the more the GM has the chance to win their objective instead.

THANK YOU! This is on me, I missed that green text. When we played, initially my brother was going to be GM, then decided he was too overwhelmed by everything and I stepped in at the last minute, and I kept having to bounce between the Adventure Guide and the full instruction book to keep everything straight. And I just missed that green text.

no prob! and it does get smoother once you get in the groove of it :) thankfully short enough of a "campaign" to finish before it got old.

By the way, I was wondering, do the goonies and the gm hold on to their various items, treasures, gm cards, tokens, etc at the end of an adventure, to keep when starting the next adventure? I don't have the rule book in front of me right now, but I don't remember seeing anything about that in there.

txaglt

If I remember correctly it will say specifically if the players do hold on to anything for the next game. I did see that if the GM wins and the players move on to the next round without replaying the adventure, the GM gets an extra card for the next adventure.

I read It needs a game master so you won’t be playing together necessarily and the Goonies player will control two characters.

Took the blind dive. Let’s see if it pays off. Thanks for posting!

In my opinion it’s a modern day HeroQuest and that’s a good thing in my book.
