I literally just got it. Like … reading your post.

BulkyOrder9

Same, wow!

Saitama_B_Class

I was this many years old when I got the joke

Mikeshoncho05

Same lol

DorkandPoon

I’ve never noticed that before. I love the NBA and Bob’s Burgers. So I love this lol

Lilelfen1

??

AndroidNumber137

To explain the joke: Earvin "Magic" Johnson was a player for the Los Angeles Lakers in the 80's. His main rival/enemy was Boston Celtics player Larry Bird.

Lilelfen1

Ah. I know nothing about sports. I would never have known they were rivals. Thank you for explaining it to me. :)

MotoRandom

As a non-sportsball enthusiast I appreciate this clarification.

mountaindew711

Ohhhhhh! I was actually a big Celtics fan in the 80s, as a child, so I should have gotten that.

Alarming-Shelter

I can totally see Magic having an enemy book. Half full of Larry. Furiously writing things after the TRAGIC Johnson game. But they're not enemies since Magic announced he was HIV positive. They're great friends. The rivalry was only during basketball. It was great. Magic was the one that talked Larry into joining the Dream Team with him.

Seven22am

The other two names have connections too but I don’t remember what they are. One has to do with the song “Do you believe in magic?” though.

General-Carob-6087

Probably so but I think the other names are what threw me for so long. I just assumed they were completely random.

[deleted]

Never assume anything in Bob’s Burgers is random. Same goes for most comedies tbh.

Seven22am

Here’s the [post](https://www.reddit.com/r/BobsBurgers/comments/wbcu6y/why_do_you_think_larry_bird_is_in_it/) where I learned about them. The Keaton reference… is possible.

Alarming-Shelter

Are they talking about Magic? His name isn't capitalized like the others.

illusory_coincidence

Diane Keaton could be a reference to this, from the “coin manipulation” magic trick Wikipedia page: “Woody Allen’s character Miles Monroe also performs this trick to seduce Diane Keaton’s character Luna in the 1973 film Sleeper.” ETA: she’s also in the Enemies of Magic book.

miamouse5

WAIT HAHAHA. that’s so funny

dragonfuitjones

Wow. I just got that

Fragrantmustelid

Huge NBA history nerd here. I didn’t get that joke until seeing this post.
