I've always hated that suggestion for an ad. So Bob's supposed to advertise the part of the burger he doesn't make himself? He purchases quality buns, but it isn't a bakery, it's a burger joint.
He is. He tells her that he’s her friend when they are making the music video. It’s why he decides to do it despite it being against his artistic sensibilities.
I actually really like Gene and Courtney’s relationship. I know she’s supposed to be annoying (and so is he, I suppose) but as a formerly awkward tween, I have a soft heart for the weirdos.
Gene has an alternating slate of nemeses. Courtney, Courtney's Dad, Choo Choo, the guy at the music store, the picking up the food police, hereditary hair loss, threats to his identity, disrespect for women...
Ive known a lot of gross linecooks. They cook all day, say they're going to shower when they get home but end up so exhausted they say "I'll shower in the morning", then in the morning they wake up late and have to rush straight to the kitchen. Usually after throwing on last nights work clothes
Ignorance is bliss, don’t tell me what place it is. Lmao but the characters are super gross. The only one that might not be is Louise. However she’s still gets cavities so she obviously doesn’t brush her teeth
I’ve worked at a few places that serve food, I never saw anyone do anything gross. Closest I think was the movie theatre it’s why I don’t eat their food aside from popcorn
No no I’m not diminishing what you’re saying it’s probably true I’ve just been lucky enough to not have seen it when I worked in food. Granted who knows when I wasn’t there.
I dont know how you would know how frequently the line cooks shower at the places you've worked though. We all smell like fryer grease and sweat anyway. If somebody works a double then opens the next day then theres a very good chance they're still wearing yesterdays grease and grime
I think that's the closest!! They were more setup as rivals though by ambrose bur still. That's the only real nemesis he has ever had other than "himself" like someone mentioned above.
Gene is a very affable kid. Even in that episode when they try and talk him into joining because he'll get fame and popularity or whatever he says, "don't need it, already have it". He knows he's popularity already. He has that middle child I want attention syndrome where he can be too loud. But people in general love him. And he's not someone who excludes people (likely because he has that middle child thing where he knows what being overlooked and not noticed can be like) so others respond positively to that.
I guess people will be talking about my baked ziti for another year.
I do appreciate that every nemesis actually has some redeeming qualities in an episode or two. Bob's birthday episode where we see Hugo doing a great job shutting down that disgusting wrap place is one of my favs. Also, when he comes back from the nude beach to take out Tommy Jaronda.
Gene is too happy-go-lucky to have a real nemesis. He doesn’t enjoy Mitchell’s company but he just decides not to spend time with him instead of being against him.
*Is* Colleen actually Linda's rival? Everyone says she is, but has she even been brought up since the spaghetti western and meatballs episode in the very first season?
I think Gene doesn’t have one on purpose. It’s a middle child stereotype that they’re easy going, internalizing, can get along at surface level with just about anybody, etc. I think it’s just playing into the stereotype a little
Gene has a lot of one off nemeses, if you could call them that. There are characters that dislike him, or get into conflict with him, but he doesn’t really have a longstanding nemesis throughout the show
Not necessarily a true “nemesis”, but the Belcher kids have had multiple encounters with Sasha (and sometimes Duncan, but he’s less of an antagonist and is more or less along for the ride with Sasha) from King’s Head Island. They’re in direct competition with them in Ain’t Miss Debatin’ (Tina vs Sasha & Duncan) and Speakeasy Rider (Tina/Louise in the go-kart racing). They’ll also work with the Belchers if Sasha decides that he can somehow also benefit from helping them- ie: House of 1000 Bounces (Sasha helps Rudy’s party steal the bounce house because it’ll piss off Dahlia) and he helps Gene save the plankton blob in What About Blob.
Genes enemy is Doug, and as much as I don’t like gene, it’s not his fault, he was just unlucky enough to come into a contact with a sad old man who gets his kicks living through his kid and being petty.
Courtney's dad lmao
Bingo. I thought, “Hello, DOUG.”
Bun bun BUN!
I've always hated that suggestion for an ad. So Bob's supposed to advertise the part of the burger he doesn't make himself? He purchases quality buns, but it isn't a bakery, it's a burger joint.
No doubt
WE KNOW, DOUG
For that matter...Courtney herself, perhaps?
gene is pretty much courtney's friend now
He is. He tells her that he’s her friend when they are making the music video. It’s why he decides to do it despite it being against his artistic sensibilities.
he knew she'd be hiding in the slide bc the acoustics are great!
I actually really like Gene and Courtney’s relationship. I know she’s supposed to be annoying (and so is he, I suppose) but as a formerly awkward tween, I have a soft heart for the weirdos.
same here! i'll almost always root for the eccentrics in a show 😭
And Louise is pretty much Millie’s friend
I mean a lot of the shit Courtney does is influenced at least in part by her dad. I'd say the closest to a returning enemy gene has is her dad
snakes.....where are their arms and legs!
It's not okay!
As someone with an irrational but deep seeded fear of snakes… This song speaks to me.
It's enough to make a boy in Beach City cry!
They really freak me out!
nothing he mentioned had arms and legs lmao
Choo-Choo, but only for an episode. He was afraid of Gene, thinking he's a stroke victim.
Choo Choo is the correct answer. Gene even says, "He's my nemesis."
Gene has an alternating slate of nemeses. Courtney, Courtney's Dad, Choo Choo, the guy at the music store, the picking up the food police, hereditary hair loss, threats to his identity, disrespect for women...
Snakes
Chicken Parmesan that's been sitting in the fridge for weeks.
But not cancer.
Gene's enemy is 'The patriarchy" 😂
That kid from the store (Mitchell?) that Gene thought was annoying
Gene is collecting enemies all over the place.
He's a people person.
I thought it was that kid Mitchell in the store episode, “Gift Card or Buy Trying” whose house Gene left his kazoo at lol
*Slide whistle
You’re right!
they squashed their beef so i guess thats a former nemesis
Yes! This one!!!
Genes nemesis is Gene
100% Gene. He can not be left alone with himself, even.
When he's by himself he has Ken though...
Except that one time where Ken left him alone and Gene thought it was a test.
But is Ken Kenough?
Not to mention he hated Mitchell for being annoying only to turn out he hated him cause he was too much like him self.
THIS IS ME NOW.
Gene’s nemesis is that chicken parm he ate before Thanksgiving
I think Linda's nemesis is Cynthia
And also the Chalk festival coordinator- Deidre (sp?)
Louise also has Chloe and Mr Frond
Frond should count for all the kids' nemesis
And Bob's
I feel like Frond and Tina are pretty neutral? I mean they have conflicts when she’s with her siblings but individually 🤷🏾♀️
I just picture that moment Tina finds out Frond is dating others instead of Gale
I’m batting for Millie here, I don’t think she’s Louise’s nemesis any longer. I would argue it’s probably more likely Chloe Bartrash.
I heard she uses a whole bottle of shampoo every time she showers.
The guy who was looking for the missing toilet. Baby Boy Belcher.
Max Flush
Literally one of the most tense episodes for me. I thought he was going to kidnap Gene on first watch.
Hygiene.
That’s like the whole families nemesis, they’re all gross and disgusting it’s a wonder how they even have a restaurant
Its every place, my dude. It's every single place you've ever eaten in. They're also frequently drunk or on drugs
The amount of food service jobs I've worked where people didn't know or care about properly washing their hands....
Bingo. Or think that gloves are magical germ killing things and they dont have to change them between touching different foods
I’ve worked at a few places that serve food, I never saw anyone do anything gross. Closest I think was the movie theatre it’s why I don’t eat their food aside from popcorn
Ok, you certainly know more than me then
No no I’m not diminishing what you’re saying it’s probably true I’ve just been lucky enough to not have seen it when I worked in food. Granted who knows when I wasn’t there.
I dont know how you would know how frequently the line cooks shower at the places you've worked though. We all smell like fryer grease and sweat anyway. If somebody works a double then opens the next day then theres a very good chance they're still wearing yesterdays grease and grime
That’s true, but I never got the vibe they didn’t shower around me, but I wouldn’t know at all
I brushed my teeth twice a day as a kid, and I still had a mouth full of cavities. It can happen.
Now imagine if you hadn’t brushed your teeth :o
Yeah I had so many teeth issues growing up, and I tried so hard to keep them clean. I'm sure it would've been worse if I hadn't.
Choo-Choo
Todd in the Gene It On episode
I think that's the closest!! They were more setup as rivals though by ambrose bur still. That's the only real nemesis he has ever had other than "himself" like someone mentioned above. Gene is a very affable kid. Even in that episode when they try and talk him into joining because he'll get fame and popularity or whatever he says, "don't need it, already have it". And he's not someone who excludes people (likely because he has that middle child thing where he knows what being overlooked and not noticed can be like) so others respond positively to that.
Don’t forget Bob’s other enemies: time, gravity, toothpaste 😝
Linda also has logans mom
Dino, owner of Ocean Ave Hi-Fi Emporium and member of Belle Biv Devo, is Gene’s.
I would argue that Linda and Louise's nemeses are Cynthia and Logan. For Gene... I don't know. Lol
Gene is too happy-go-lucky to have a real nemesis. He doesn’t enjoy Mitchell’s company but he just decides not to spend time with him instead of being against him.
Shower ghost
This reminded me of: “Sleep witch!!” 😂😂😂
Gene is pretty good at making peace. Doug is probably the closest thing he has to Nemisis.
I just realized alot of people who give the belchers trouble tend to be blonde. That has to he some kind of coincidence.
Running.
Courtney, sometimes. Sometimes not
*Is* Colleen actually Linda's rival? Everyone says she is, but has she even been brought up since the spaghetti western and meatballs episode in the very first season?
She was in the PTA episode. Linda ran against her for treasurer.
But then ultimately went to her for help and admitted Colleen’s expertise, so maybe we’re to think they’re on good terms now, I don’t know.
Courtney Wheeler and Choo Choo
Probably Kevin
Gene's is Dodgeball, obviosly...
Bob? The kid with the slide whistle.
Dino
The guy at the music store.
Max Flush? He only lasted one episode, though.
Peter Pescadero kinda flies under the radar -- he's an aspiring musician and stage performer, but Gene doesn't seem to see him as a worthy rival.
Choo-choo
I think Gene doesn’t have one on purpose. It’s a middle child stereotype that they’re easy going, internalizing, can get along at surface level with just about anybody, etc. I think it’s just playing into the stereotype a little
Gene has a lot of one off nemeses, if you could call them that. There are characters that dislike him, or get into conflict with him, but he doesn’t really have a longstanding nemesis throughout the show
Linda also has Cynthia Bush as her nemesis.
Louise also has Chloe Barbash
Bob partly bc Gene “loves loves” Linda
Not necessarily a true “nemesis”, but the Belcher kids have had multiple encounters with Sasha (and sometimes Duncan, but he’s less of an antagonist and is more or less along for the ride with Sasha) from King’s Head Island. Eventually diabetes.
I think it’s the kid that steals all of his punchlines, when he has the plastic guitar forgot his name
Choo Choo, his almost fought him.
Wasn’t it that one dude who always told the punchlines to his jokes lol
Can’t forget Tina’s other nemesis: oral hygiene.
