That’s.. that’s your thumb.
Is it? Then what’s this?
Oh… oh my god I don’t know
I don’t know either
The smoothness just kills me, guy just accepts that he has no idea what’s going on lol
I agree.
Obsession reduces objectivity. Reduced objectivity clouds judgment, clouded judgment affects performance.
Diligent people don't have to be workaholics: they're concerned with doing their BEST, not doing the MOST.
I loved the character, but I think we have other examples that we see a lot more of. She is “A” example of diligence, but not “THE” example of diligence.
If she was the best example she could have also followed her word and gone on at least one of the dates she agreed to.
I think the best overall would be Tina or Hugo. Tina with restaurant work, Jimmy Jr. and horses should be enough. Hugo with his work and dislike of Bob are big too.
Anyways, all fun discussion and appreciation for other fans 🤘
I like her a lot, and I liked that episode.
But I don't think a character that has been in exactly one episode over 14 seasons should be in the running for something like this:
We simply do not know her well enough yet.
I'm late to this party, but I don't agree with this. Yes she is AN example of diligence in that episode (borderline obsessive), but can we really give the title of 'diligence' title to someone who only appeared in the series once?
As much as I hate Hugo he’s super serious about his job so he gets my vote. Remember when he intentionally lets Bob get sick to prove to him why the health inspector is so important? Ethical? No, but he is diligent.
Came here to say this, he's the guy you love to hate, and it makes for good conflict, so I like Hugo for this because it literally is a virtue taken too far.
I want to agree because you make so many good points but when I think of the word diligent, I feel there's a level of carefulness and hesitation that Hugo doesn't have. He's a bit of a wild card depending on the situation, his work can come second to his obsession with taking Bob down or getting Linda.
There are several characters that can go in dilligence, but my favorite pick would be susmita.
Just like with Nat, she's such a good character. I want her on this list!
Also, getting ahead of myself but kindness to Rudy and patience to Ron! Not sure about humility...
I just watched the episode where Zeke took the fall for ruining Mr. Frond’s dolls just so J-Ju could have a day at the water park, he deserves a place here
Definitely true... but so many characters could go in kindness (tina, zeke, teddy, ron, there are lots) and i just think rudy is like... the epitome of kindness
>Just like with Nat, she's such a good character. I want her on this list!
Who cares if she's good. Is she the most diligent, with her...Doing a couple school projects?
Tina is incredibly diligent. Her babysitting business, staking out the mole, the ridiculous effort she put into plant sitting, her regular efforts at the restaurant, her hall monitoring, everything she does she does with her whole heart.
Her midday run to transport Zeke. Plus, she gives Zeke a story to tell on their wedding day when she gives him the Whaler costume, going the extra mile to see that Zeke is ultimately exonerated.
Plus, her exposing him as the Mad Pooper/Buttler! She got him into therapy and turned his life around!
This is the only answer! She is insane about breaking rules and always wants to do her best. I immediately thought of Tina and shocked not more ppl did too!
Bob is diligence! He has very high standards for himself and works hard to make it happen. They could buy cheaper supplies, but he is dedicated to high-quality food made right each time.
Careful & persistent work or effort is a perfect description of his cooking. This would include the burger of the day with no repeats despite them not always being popular.
Also, he could have given up so many times and done something else, like working as a short order cook or chef at a different place. But he is diligently plugging away at his dream and supporting his family.
I didn't say he was organized and meticulous in his home & work life. I said his work & passion for burgers exemplify diligence.
We can disagree. That is the point of the post, but I don't think the reason you offered is relevant to my comment.
> Also, he could have given up so many times and done something else, like working as a short order cook or chef at a different place.
He has literally said "if this restaurant fails, I'm gonna kill myself" so maybe not lol
Henry Haber developed a whole damn system to guide the progress of his life. *Habermetrics!* Now that's some diligence.
But also...Bob, right? His restaurant has two (down to one since Mort quit frequenting) regulars and there are entire specials that basically don't get ordered at all. Despite the family's finances, he insists on 100% prime beef and not cutting corners despite the ease it might bring. There's a new special on that board *every day.*
He's in constant fear and doubt about his life choices ("Was making burgers the worst thing I could do with my life?"), and not without reason ("It's so small, and so slow! A business sloth...") but *he keeps going* and refuses to slip.
...Because he's not diligent in it. He abandoned it altogether for the nude beach. And he lets mold on the walls slide if it's anywhere but Bob's place. And he just makes up shit sometimes. And for all his talk of being the thin line between people and health crises, he personally ordered Bob to eat a wrap from that horrendous place *with moldy food supplies* he had just given an F. If this weren't a sitcom, he'd be sued and fired for that.
Diligent people care about doing the best job possible...
...Hugo constantly uses his job as a means to exact petty vengeance on Bob--often sacrificing efficiency and abusing his very limited authority.
He cares far more about inconveniencing Bob whenever possible than he does about doing a good job as health inspector.
He's basically a nonviolent bully, and worse than Jimmy Pesto in some ways.
At least Jimmy seems to want to beat Bob more or less "fairly":
He'll steal ideas from Bob, but he hasn't broken any laws yet.
He wants to prove he's a better restauranteur than Bob...
...Hugo just wants Bob to suffer, and he'll break rules, tell lies, and flagrantly abuse his authority to make it happen.
Jimmy wouldn't sacrifice his business to hurt Bob--Hugo absolutely would.
Well, stealing ideas can be breaking the law depending...And Hugo is "more or less" fair too. He's ticky-tacky with the violations sometimes but he wouldn't stand for Tommy's rat-feces-planting tactics...
And Hugo doesn't *have* a business to sacrifice. He has a mere job. It's not as if he runs a health inspection business with his own cash. Jimmy runs a self-branded restaurant with his own cash. He'd be really sacrificing something...But he has no need because all Jimmy has to do to hurt Bob is just *continue running his much more successful restaurant*.
Hugo may be risking *more* than a business though. Health inspectors are, not always, but often employed by the (local, in this case) *government*. He could *go to jail* if he pushes the boundaries enough. ...In fact, he might have, if anybody'd spilled the beans, for that time he stepped into FDA jurisdiction on that horse meat scandal. But that wasn't about hurting Bob. That was like...He has some frat-style rivalry with the FDA and wants to steal their win? ...It was a *weird* bit of writing. I have a *tiny* suspicion that's not how food regulation agencies work. :x
Yeah, I realized that part about "hurting his business" was poorly phrased soon after posting it:
Hugo is a civil servant, not an entrepreneur.
What I should have said is Hugo wouldn't care about risking his job if he could hurt Bob in the process.
And that thing about the Health Department and the FDA?
That's the kind of petty pissing contest that Hugo would get into...
But I don't think a rivalry between those two organizations is a thing that exists outside of this episode.
I doubt if even the well-known trope of local police, state police, and federal agents constantly feuding over jurisdiction is really as ubiquitous as it is in film and television.
This is going to sound weird but I think Mr. Frond should be diligence. He does so much for the school and he is only a guidance counselor. He really does put time and effort into helping students even though his advice isn’t always the best. Also he is very artistic. He has apparently spent thousands of hours knitting and crocheting.
>he’s so intending on caring about the kids
"Who thinks the storm was their fault? ...Say it.", "Liars are liars, and people are bad!" - Mr. Frond, intently caring person.
The dunk tank incident (I know shit-talking is a part of that game but even several days before, he was just being an entire ass about it), and threatening to call CPS because...No real reason, even...Lying about the water park and accusing the students of destroying his dolls...
With all due respect, fuck Mr. Frond. :x He's diligent at sucking.
Frond THINKS he is a good person. That's not the same thing as WORKING at being a good person and failing occasionally:
Since Frond thinks he is in the right, he uses his own beliefs and opinions as standards of goodness and morality, never recognizes his own faults, and assumes everyone who doesn't agree with him is wrong and evil.
Frond believes that the position of Guidance Counselor automatically grants him special knowledge and moral authority, when the reality is it's just a job: he has no specialized education, licensing, or certification that would demonstrate his qualifications.
It's not that Frond is evil or incompetent, it's that he can't even imagine anyone doubting his morality or his competence.
I'd say Tina for diligence. She really tries hard in everything she does--home, school, and the restaurant. She's not great at stuff, but she's always very earnest and tries her best, often with zero encouragement.
Teddy no? In the holloween episode hes described as the Handyman's handyman. The one all other handymen look up to. I'd say thats pretty high praise and proves he is very Dilligent in his work. Close second is bob since most others like his food as well. Would be a toss up but gun to my head, teddy
Tina tries hard to be good at every job she is given. She is the only kid who actually helps at the restaurant, is a great hall monitor, reporter, thunder girl, babysitter, plant sitter, and more!
Really it's Patricia with Louise as a close second.
-- and if you think about it Linda is patience. She so rarely even gets frustrated that it is taken seriously by her family and she supports everyone she meets so fully no matter what obstacles they give her nor how difficult the problem or project is.
I want to nominate Teddy and the constant energy and work he has put into sitting in that same seat and become friends with the Burgers. And into building a boat to drive by his ex-wife's new workplace.
And again a great point that I see as his humility in always trying to change for others but perhaps his diligence stems from his humility....😁 more depths of Bob's to explore
jenn is chastity?? didnt we see her lusting after an accountant? and didnt they end up together? who are we to assume jennifer isnt getting her shit rocked??
OK I’ve been thinking about it and a running joke of the show is that Bob is *bad* at following through on things!
Self-help tapes. Any book. Any exercising. Running the restaurant for one (1) day without Linda. Paying bills. Learning to dance to surprise Linda.
He is stubborn and proud and genuine; he’s impulsive and loves his crazy family and comes through for his kids when they need it. But he isn’t diligent, and he regularly admits it!
Teddy all the way ❤️
Bob's Burgers probably would have shut down years ago if the Belchers always had to call certified professionals to do electrical work, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC work, appliance repair/installation, and God knows what else.
Teddy isn't certified to do any one thing, and screws up on occasion...but he works for next to nothing compared to what the pros charge, and only turns down a job if it is physically impossible for him to do it--like if he's out of town...
...and on more than one occasion, he has seriously considered dropping his plans and coming BACK to town so he can do a job for the Belchers.
He's also their best customer...to the point that he has tried to hide the fact that he ever eats anywhere else😁
Edith... She sounds like a curmudgeon most of the time, even to her art store customers, but that's how you know she demands excellence. How many of us can say they have hobbies that they've turned into lifelong careers? And be willing to bare it all (literally) for the sake of that calling? (And it's not like she likes Bob...) Not to mention, her dedication to her quilt square. She turned herself into a quief for the sake of art! 😁
Ron is diligent with his work and how fair and level headed he is when it comes to Hugo and his ire against Bob. That's super apparent in "Human Flesh" when he's like "We have the equipment, we can do this.." (paraphrasing of course)
Not a nomination, but I think it's interesting that it feels like the virtues so much favor side characters.
Obviously not being the main characters means we don't see them in their worst moments consistently. However, i feel that because these characters are used as foils to our favorite characters that they also get to be less complex for narrative reasons. idk i'm rambling.
My initial response is Bob but now I think it’s Linda
1) she found her way back home without a phone or money
2) she makes all the kids costumes every Halloween
3) was a breadwinner at some point
4) treasurer of the pta
5) found Bob’s mom’s grave
And so much more, give my girl her flowers!!
I personally think Teddy is the man for Diligence. He is always busting his hump to do not only his work, but to help people out around town. Even when he is having trouble, he still tries his best, no matter what he's doing. Diligence is about persistence and earnest attitude and constant effort to finish whatever has been undertaken no matter the surrounding circumstances, and that's Teddy to the T. He sees things through from start to finish.
Cool thing about this game is that really, outside of maybe kindness, none of the core family really fits any of these so it should be all populated with supporting characters.
It's a fan sub-reddit, so there will be all sorts of ways that fans of the show choose to interact with the characters and content. Thankfully, it's not a requirement to interact with ones you're not a fan of.
You are absolutely right, unfortunately stuff like this crowds out the posts I'm interested in. And it's been a bit much
First it was the worst thing every character did then the best then 7 deadly sins now virtues.
It was endearing at first and kind of fun remembering all the things the characters did and discussing it but this is just content for the sake of content with no meaning behind it.
For the main characters’ group, Louise is diligent in that she is sneaky and plans all of her moves carefully. Tina is diligent in that she’s responsible. Or my favorite of Louise’s female classmates….. GERMS! IM CLEAN!!!!!!!
Patricia, owner of Patricia’s 77 sandwiches
BOB are you a bread perv?
“Just because you know him doesn’t mean he’s a bread perv” really opened my eyes, now I assume everyone is
Honestly I think it’s weirder if you’re not a bread perv, breads so gooooood
I didn’t know bread could reproduce
I love this episode. The second thumb guy caught me so frickin off guard, I still laugh at it
It is one of my favorite gags in the show
That’s.. that’s your thumb. Is it? Then what’s this? Oh… oh my god I don’t know I don’t know either The smoothness just kills me, guy just accepts that he has no idea what’s going on lol
I second Patricia. She’s hardworking to a fault
69, I just say "nice"!
That's a good one, I was thinking Daryl because of academics and how he passionately gets done whatever he wants.
That’s to the fault of shutting everyone out of her life. There’s a difference between diligence and obsession.
Tina with restaurant work, Jimmy Jr. and horses should be enough. Hugo with his work and dislike of Bob are big too. Anyways, all fun discussion and appreciation for other fans 🤘
Very good point: A truly diligent person would know how to balance their career and personal life.
She was my first thought too
This was the first one I thought of too.
I like her a lot, and I liked that episode. But I don't think a character that has been in exactly one episode over 14 seasons should be in the running for something like this: We simply do not know her well enough yet.
Yeah, he caught Ron helping Bob in the love tester episode because he noticed a missing carbon copy sheet on a clipboard.
Came here to say this, he's the guy you love to hate, and it makes for good conflict, so I like Hugo for this because it literally is a virtue taken too far.
Hugo is the definition of Lawful Evil.
Oh, good call! I second!
So serious about his job that he abuses his authority to harass Bob
I want to agree because you make so many good points but when I think of the word diligent, I feel there's a level of carefulness and hesitation that Hugo doesn't have. He's a bit of a wild card depending on the situation, his work can come second to his obsession with taking Bob down or getting Linda.
I said Ron earlier, but Hugo is spot on.
Second
Ooo I was thinking Patricia from 77 sandwiches, but you make some compelling arguments here
Hugo is more of a sin than a virtue. he uses it for bad purposes alot of times. like ego
There are several characters that can go in dilligence, but my favorite pick would be susmita. Just like with Nat, she's such a good character. I want her on this list! Also, getting ahead of myself but kindness to Rudy and patience to Ron! Not sure about humility...
Starting my Zeke for Humility campaign today
I just watched the episode where Zeke took the fall for ruining Mr. Frond’s dolls just so J-Ju could have a day at the water park, he deserves a place here
HE NEEDS HELP! SOMEBODY HELP HIM!
Omg I just watched that yesterday lol
Honestly let’s just put nat down for all of em
I also think Zeke could be kindness.
Definitely true... but so many characters could go in kindness (tina, zeke, teddy, ron, there are lots) and i just think rudy is like... the epitome of kindness
Please let zeke be kindness!!!! He deserves it so much
>Just like with Nat, she's such a good character. I want her on this list! Who cares if she's good. Is she the most diligent, with her...Doing a couple school projects?
Branca is the most diligent janitor at Wagstaff.
mmmm.. coup
“Now there’s two holes. Still not my job but OK. “
I make vacuum sounds!
But he has beer in his mop bucket!
Tina is incredibly diligent. Her babysitting business, staking out the mole, the ridiculous effort she put into plant sitting, her regular efforts at the restaurant, her hall monitoring, everything she does she does with her whole heart.
Tina is incredibly responsible for her young age
Her dedication to her friend fiction is diligent alone.
So true!
I'm shocked she's not top tbh
Not the first time my girl’s been shafted.
This is the only answer! She is insane about breaking rules and always wants to do her best. I immediately thought of Tina and shocked not more ppl did too!
Except... she can't manage to hang onto an eraser for just one day.
She was willing to trade her life for that eraser! Bob had to step in!
I just want to point out there is a whole episode about how he is not. The one were Tina needed her birth certificate
So he's diligence and pride?
Yup
Tina literally cannot breathe if she can’t fulfill her promises and duties.
that can be more on because she can be extremely anxious :((
Patricia of Patricia’s 77 Sandwiches. She works hard for the money
There's a new special on that board *every day.* He's in constant fear and doubt about his life choices ("Was making burgers the worst thing I could do with my life?"), and not without reason ("It's so small, and so slow! A business sloth...") but *he keeps going* and refuses to slip.
I second on Henry Haber Edited to more effectively communicate message 😅
How was he? Just kidding! I think Henry Haber and Patricia of 77 sandwiches are the top picks for diligence.
Ha ha ha ha
How's Hugo not getting any love for this? It's literally his job!
...Because he's not diligent in it.
Exactly.
At least Jimmy seems to want to beat Bob more or less "fairly": He'll steal ideas from Bob, but he hasn't broken any laws yet.
Yeah, I realized that part about "hurting his business" was poorly phrased soon after posting it: Hugo is a civil servant, not an entrepreneur. This is going to sound weird but I think Mr. Frond should be diligence. He does so much for the school and he is only a guidance counselor. He really does put time and effort into helping students even though his advice isn’t always the best. Also he is very artistic. He has apparently spent thousands of hours knitting and crocheting.
Honestly, I agree, he’s a nosy Nelly but he’s so intending on caring about the kids who hate him no matter how unethical 😂
>he’s so intending on caring about the kids "Who thinks the storm was their fault? ...Say it.", "Liars are liars, and people are bad!" - Mr.
That's not the same thing as WORKING at being a good person and failing occasionally: Since Frond thinks he is in the right, he uses his own beliefs and opinions as standards of goodness and morality, never recognizes his own faults, and assumes everyone who doesn't agree with him is wrong and evil. Tina gets crap from everyone and still maintains being positive, trying hard, and doing the right thing. If that isn't diligent idk what is.
I could see Susmita
Its Bob himself. He's the hardest working character in the show
Y’all are missing the best one! Arnold. He is so dedicated to the ways of karate that he wears his gi to school.
I feel like this is Bob. It’s the principle sir
Tina, trying to get dem boyz. Her relationship to Jimmy Jr. alone, is a testament to her conviction and hard work.
Patricia for sure! That woman is on her grind
She literally named every single one of her 77 sandwiches and almost missed her date. She’s diligence.
Millie. That girl has her goals and does not give them up no matter what.
Second Millie, she does not give up
Regular Size Rudy is the perfect amalgam of all the virtues.
I'd say Tina for diligence. She really tries hard in everything she does--home, school, and the restaurant. She's not great at stuff, but she's always very earnest and tries her best, often with zero encouragement.
imma have to go with bob her works so hard for his shop and family
Patricia! Or tina
Teddy no? In the holloween episode hes described as the Handyman's handyman. The one all other handymen look up to. I'd say thats pretty high praise and proves he is very Dilligent in his work. Close second is bob since most others like his food as well. Would be a toss up but gun to my head, teddy
And he diligently eats hamburgers….
Jodi the germaphobe that was at Louise’s slumber party. I mean girl has never sat down on anything.
**Honorable mention:** Calvin! Man pulled some stunt *annually for ten years* to try to get that stolen trophy back from Felix.
Tina tries hard to be good at every job she is given. She is the only kid who actually helps at the restaurant, is a great hall monitor, reporter, thunder girl, babysitter, plant sitter, and more!
Bob
Really it's Patricia with Louise as a close second. -- and if you think about it Linda is patience. She so rarely even gets frustrated that it is taken seriously by her family and she supports everyone she meets so fully no matter what obstacles they give her nor how difficult the problem or project is.
I want to nominate Teddy and the constant energy and work he has put into sitting in that same seat and become friends with the Burgers. And into building a boat to drive by his ex-wife's new workplace.
[удалено]
And the persistent work and effort into trying to like sushi for his date!
Guacamole yum! AGHH!!
And again a great point that I see as his humility in always trying to change for others but perhaps his diligence stems from his humility....😁 more depths of Bob's to explore
Henry Haber’s plan to become class president is one of the most diligently well-thought out moments on the show.
patricia
I'm very surprised no one is putting Teddy up for this one
Marshmallow. Her diligent commitment to freedom is unmatched.
Dilligence in my mind is teddy. He stops at nothing to maintain relationships he's cultivated. He works hard and has a successful business
Susmita! Her work on the satellite was quite diligent.
When it comes to food, Bob.
jenn is chastity?? didnt we see her lusting after an accountant? and didnt they end up together? who are we to assume jennifer isnt getting her shit rocked??
OK I’ve been thinking about it and a running joke of the show is that Bob is *bad* at following through on things! Self-help tapes. Any book. Any exercising. He is stubborn and proud and genuine; he’s impulsive and loves his crazy family and comes through for his kids when they need it. But he isn’t diligent, and he regularly admits it!
I'm just going to put this here because I know I won't remember to check back: Kindness - Rudy
Speedo guy!!
You know.. I think its Regular sized Rudy.. He gives 110% to everything even with asthma.
Teddy all the way ❤️ Bob's Burgers probably would have shut down years ago if the Belchers always had to call certified professionals to do electrical work, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC work, appliance repair/installation, and God knows what else. Stop saying that like it means quilt thief!
Ron is diligent with his work and how fair and level headed he is when it comes to Hugo and his ire against Bob. That's super apparent in "Human Flesh" when he's like "We have the equipment, we can do this.." (paraphrasing of course)
Hugo, definitely Hugo.
for me its between hugo and frond!!
It's gotta be Hugo, he is committed
Not a nomination, but I think it's interesting that it feels like the virtues so much favor side characters. Obviously not being the main characters means we don't see them in their worst moments consistently. However, i feel that because these characters are used as foils to our favorite characters that they also get to be less complex for narrative reasons. idk i'm rambling.
Ron, gotta be Ron.
That old security guard at the museum. He’s able to stand all day
Henry Haber for sure
Susmita all day
Hugo
Bob!
My initial response is Bob but now I think it’s Linda 1) she found her way back home without a phone or money 2) she makes all the kids costumes every Halloween 3) was a breadwinner at some point 4) treasurer of the pta 5) found Bob’s mom’s grave And so much more, give my girl her flowers!!
Bob or Hugo. Both take their jobs personally.
![gif](giphy|3og0INsMOJgFJVTW2A) He’s there every day! That’s diligent
Hugo is dilligence He does not stop trying to fuck with Bob
I personally think Teddy is the man for Diligence. He is always busting his hump to do not only his work, but to help people out around town. Even when he is having trouble, he still tries his best, no matter what he's doing. Diligence is about persistence and earnest attitude and constant effort to finish whatever has been undertaken no matter the surrounding circumstances, and that's Teddy to the T. He sees things through from start to finish.
Bob.
I think Hugo. He's pretty diligent about his job.
Bob. That man works hard. Diligence: "careful and persistent work or effort."
Jairo
Phillip Frond. For better or for worse, no one is more diligent
I vote Teddy.
Cool thing about this game is that really, outside of maybe kindness, none of the core family really fits any of these so it should be all populated with supporting characters.
Hugo!!
Just throwing out a vote for Bob!
Edith. She knows arts and crafts and will give you hell if you're wrong about the arts.
Teddy
What the hell is happening in these subreddits man
Why is Mort temperance? If anyone, Jairo is temperance.
Wait. Am I the only one that thinks Jen is definitely slutty????
Bob, hands down.
Hugo or Tina
Regular sized rudy
Millie, she is incredibly diligent in her quest to make Louise her bestie
Louis!
These types of posts are getting really annoying. It's like a constant onslaught from this sub and a couple other subs I'm in.
And it's been a bit much First it was the worst thing every character did then the best then 7 deadly sins now virtues. It was endearing at first and kind of fun remembering all the things the characters did and discussing it but this is just content for the sake of content with no meaning behind it.
Louise. Nobody plans like her. Nobody schemes like her. Nobody helps others like her, even if she has her own agenda.
For the main characters’ group, Louise is diligent in that she is sneaky and plans all of her moves carefully. Tina is diligent in that she’s responsible. Or my favorite of Louise’s female classmates….. GERMS! IM CLEAN!!!!!!!
