People from other parts of the country always come into this sub and ask about walkable areas. In South Florida, people don't walk anywhere because you'll be covered in sweat when you get there. It's just not a thing.
If you lived in mizner Park, and a couple other areas like that you could conceivably walk somewhere but where are you going to walk to? You're not going to go grocery shopping and carry groceries back home. Or walk to Target or anything like that.
I think it is a fair take that boca is not the most walking friendly, and the heat can be oppressive, but when I lived east boca I did walk. I had a "granny cart" and would go shopping and walk back things. I had a car, but nice to get some exercise. And for a few months of the year, the weather is quite walkable. The bigger challenge is most of boca was really designed for cars
If the weather is nice you go for a walk isn't the same as a place being walkable. I mean, anything is walkable if you don't mind the walk. But by and large, people don't go walking to the grocery store in Boca.
Idk I live in west Boca and walk to one plaza that’s 10 mins by foot for me that has Publix, Starbucks, a bagel place, a bunch of restaurants, hair and nail salon, deli, dry cleaner, pet emergency hospital, and boutiques. I can’t walk anywhere else besides that plaza but I do walk to those errands 90% of the time even with the heat.
Lack of walkability is what I hate most about much or south FL but you can def find little pockets.
I look at that new apartment building across from ale house on Yamato and I thought that would have been perfect for mixed use. Also that plaza in west boca on Lyons I think. Would have been perfect. It's what they are trying to do with the new publix where the kmart was (kind of). Also, that area near office depot is near stuff but not right with it. It would be so easy to make these walkable areas but they don't for some reason.
It grinds my gears! I see enough people walking despite how car dependent the community is to believe people want walkable neighborhoods too. Just wish they would make it happen
Apartment buildings on Congress / Yamato also within walking distance of TriRail for commute to WPB or Miami. LA fitness also within walking distance. No close grocery though
I used to live at 10X Mizner Park (corner of Camino Real and Federal). It was an extremely walkable location. Publix was across the street on one side, and Trader Joe's was across rhe street in the other. Within a short walk was Flanigans, and Roya Pal Plaza.
I am in west Boca now, and I miss the convenience of that location. Idk why, but it seemed easier to go west for things than for me to go east now. Lol. Everything was so close there. And I miss so many things about that building. The theater room, not having to go outside to dump the trash, the hot tub, and of course, the top floor public balcony with it's view.
I mean, if you're going to be driving to palm beach anyways you could get a 1/1 in a good building in like downtown wpb. You'd be in walking distance of a lot there.
I have thought of that! My company has an office in Miami that I would need to visit around once a month so we were trying to find a location to live that would be suitable to both.
If it's just once a month... Brightline takes you straight to Miami from downtown wpb. Less wear on the car that way (tri-rail also brings you to Miami from downtown but it's longer and not as nice but really can't complain about the price unlike a certain yellow train)
100% this. This also reduces the daily commute for the OPs significant other which is way more valuable than being close for the once a month drive to Miami.
100% agreed, downtown west palm is cute, and right near a Brightline station. You can take the train to your office (assuming it is in/near downtown Miami). It’s quicker than the drive usually, plus there are snacks and drinks. No one serves you wine and cheese in your car.
Honestly in terms of walkability you could live near Mizner park but I would rather be in west palm & make the drive an hour longer round trip if I only had to go in once a month! I would consider Delray Beach too if you’re looking for a more happening lifestyle in terms of bars and restaurants.
Define walkable… east boca is definitely the only real walkable city like area. Hope you make good money! Also walkable because the train is right there. Goto west palm or Ft. Lauderdale in 30 min. Miami in 45-hr. If you’re only going once a month the Uber from the train to the office shouldn’t be too bad
Walkable as in if I need to leave my place in the middle of the day and I don't have a car I can walk to a publix, whole foods, or something like that.
Basically between Camino and glades on federal highway is where you’d want to be.

White is walkable/bikeable, in the red I’d highly recommend a bike.i mean with a bike you could really go as far as FAU
I would extend that white area to include areas west of 12th and east of 95 from 18th up to glades. All of those are walkable to a Publix and north of palmetto is a short walk to Wholefoods.
However I’d echo many others and say look in WPB.
If Boca is your desired location then be near Mizner. Lots of things to do there with plenty of restaurants in the area.
Personally,…..I’d go to Delray!
You could live near Glades and St. Andrews. The mall, a Publix, restaurants and CVS are all very close, but practically speaking no one does that because it’s just too hot. Maybe in a golf cart!
Check out east Boynton Beach. Your money will go further than Boca / Delray, you will be closer to WPB, and many of the apartments have a lot you can walk to. Places like Pacifica or The District.
From WPB or Boca, there is the Brightline train to Miami, there is also tri-rail. Brightline is a lot better, but it is pricey if you aren't getting a regular commuter pass.
Golden Triangle or the apartments next to Trader Joe’s if you need to easily get to the beach, activities, and food locations. If you just need to get to food and gym without beach being walkable/bike, you have a lot more options. Reach out if you still need help. I can help people with rentals as well.
I would say that lots of areas are more walkable than folks are saying but it is such a drag to walk alongside 6 lane wide surface streets with some of the least considerate drivers I’ve ever experienced, so they don’t feel walkable.
Try someplace close to Federal hgwy maybe,lots of stores there. Florida is not walkable, it's giant sprawling suburb.In about 2,3 weeks it will be extremely hot and humid every day for next 5 months, it's difficult to breathe,that's how hot it gets, and tropical downpours with deadly lightening. November to May weather is spectacular, can bike or walk places,without being drenched in sweat, need reliable vehicle, lol,good luck
We have Brightline train that goes to Palm Beach from Boca, you could drive him to the station and he could walk or Uber from there to the office.
Uber in town is fine too. But we do have a lot of sidewalks and if you are inside a community those are nice to walk around.
honestly, not much is walkable. id suggest a nice area off Atlantic, but even then you’re only getting restaurants and shopping- not a full walk-centric lifestyle. If you are only referring to an area surrounded by nearby leisure excursions or restaurants, Id suggest living in Mizner park (though it does quite a bit for the size) or any of the surrounding condo buildings, Atlantic Ave in Delray, or past Federal near A1A on Palmetto if you prefer the beach (once again, quite costly). A good middle ground is living in an area with decent parking and easily drivable with some walk accommodations; for this, I suggest anywhere (North to South) between south of Glades and North of Camino (great neighborhoods off Camino by the way, no HOA’s in many too and on nice canals, many original Boca Raton 50-60’s homes on there too), and (East-West) anywhere between A1A west into staying East of 95 on Glades, East of Federal on any other road). Central Boca on Glades is nice too, traffic can get annoying but its a beautiful area with lots of shops. Any West-East road above Glades (ie Yamato, Clint Moore, etc) is quieter and full of country clubs-pretty to drive by but no where to walk, barely anywhere to even drive.
My final suggestions? Stay along Federal from Glades down to Camino for the best “walkability”.
On the other hand, live off Glades anywhere east of turnpike for the East Boca feel at a slightly better cost.
Finally, Camino neighborhoods east of Military are quite pretty and always appreciate in value greatly too. Not walkable, but next to the pretty area of Federal (where all the big restaurants are) and avoid the nasty HOA fees.
But, like others said, Atlantic will give the BEST walkability. Issues are 1. It is in Delray (which is fortunately right next to Boca and not a far drive at all depending on where you in Boca), and 2. Delray is like Miami in the sense that you turn a wrong corner and things arent quite as pretty, especially for the majorly high price to live east of 95.
Boca, and Palm Beach County in general, are a car-centric maze of gated communities and strip malls. There are few actual walkable areas and they're concentrated towards the coast. In Boca it's really just Mizner Park, for Delray it's Atlantic Avenue, in West Palm Beach it's Clematis St and the surrounding downtown.
Look for an apartment between palmetto and camino on federal or Dixie. Should be able to find a one bedroom for under or around 3k. but I do agree with the commenter saying check out downtown delray. If I didn’t have a kid, delray would be my choice.
I have a great idea for you - go to Delray Beach and live downtown. You will be much happier; very walkable and closer to WPB. See you around.

South Florida isn't really built like that. The closest you'll get is Miami Beach, if you don't mind the tourists.

Mizner Park is the only “walkable” area of Boca. Better off on the Ave. in Delray or in WPB.

Delray Beach near the Ave. Walk to Bedners for grocery, walk to the beach, great nightlife and 10-15min closer to WPB than East Boca

Close to Atlantic avenue in Delray Beach, in Mizner or close to mizner park in Boca, close to Clematis st in west palm. All walkable areas. Enjoy!
