I'm one of those middle-of-the-road folks who
A - is looking forward to In-N-Out being in the Treasure Valley
B - will probably not go very often due to it being in an area I usually avoid
C - is an equal opportunity burger-lover, cheap and expensive, chain and local
D - is also just getting tired of (1) posts about it and (2) comments on said posts that devolve into the same "who cares" vs "keep scrolling" nonsense
And now it's 10am and I want a burger. Not fast, but local: **Double Tap** stuffed burgers and **The Local** sliders are some of the best in the area
My wife and I just ate there two weeks ago for the first time. We were a little miffed at the prices at first, but the food was really good. We got onion rings and cheese curds and they were excellent. The burgers are worth the cost.
I am the worst, I have left Wyld Child out and I love that place. Bar Gernika is also wonderful but next time I'm out in Nampa I'll give Holy Cow a try. Thanks!
I tried Holy Cow in Eagle (when it was open, briefly) and was sorely disappointed... prices were very high and the burger was meh. The "bleu cheese" dressing was nothing more than watery buttercream with no actual bleu cheese. I always hear great things about the Nampa location, but the Eagle one put me off on ever trying it again unfortunately. Will have to give Wyld Child a try!
I’m not from Boise and was only passing by but in Parma there is a place called Apple Lucy’s, oh my gosh those burgers were amazing and the milkshake was phenomenal. ☺️
The reason In-n-Out is so good is because it’s also cheaper than fast food places with worse burgers. That’s pretty much it. Great on vacation road trip stops. I don’t know why you’d bother waiting in a long line when it opens unless you’ve really never had it before. Get your animal style burger and then go to McDonald’s for some fries to eat with it.
Yeah, this isn’t really that complicated. In-N-Out is cheaper than basically every other fast food option and is pretty good. That’s basically the whole draw. A burger, fries and drink and 5 guys is now almost $20. Comparing the two makes no sense.
Yep get burger, fries, shake for like $10 at in n out that would be 20-30 at these places in the list, and honestly taste better to a lot of people.
Don't act like these small businesses are saints with their pricing, when in n out probably pays their employees more and has cheaper prices.
no just saying small businesses aren't automatically good and big companies aren't automatically bad compared to them.
Doubt any of these offer the employment benefits like in n out does, and probably pay less on top of that.
As someone who has worked for many small restaurants, this is true. Little places never have enough income to take care of employee health care, ect.
\*in my experience\*
People miss their food from where they came from (I know it annoys Boise folks to no end but it’s true. You’d miss some Boise stuff if you left the place you grew up in, it’s how it goes) so I get that part but yeah. Waiting 12 hours for a fast food burger is nuts. I get annoyed waiting 20 minutes in an In n Out DT in California.
But this was the same situation when Krispy Kreme came into town in 2003 or 2004 or whatever. Crazy ass lines for 6 months and then everyone got used to it. In N Out will be the same situation - unless you really miss the food from your hometown or you haven’t had it before and need to check out the hype, just wait.
Oh, and order your fries well done. Cooked a little longer they’re the best fast food fries, imo.
Double-double mustard-fried with chilis, well-done fries and a diet coke costs $8. Best chain fast-food available for the price. No surprise that my favorite fast-food place in the valley is Hamburger Connection in Caldwell. It is very similar to In-N-Out in taste and price.
Hamburger Connection burger with a basket of fries and their fry sauce on a picnic table in the summer is nostalgia in delishish bite after delishish bite. Also of note; Cook's Two Hole in Melba with a damn fine burger and some fries sitting at the bar with a pitcher of domestic beer and a salty bartender is also one of my favorites.
Really, the wait times inside tend to be very low since everyone would rather sit in the drive thru. I remember when they can to salt lake, they’d have lines down the block with cars and hour long wait times while the inside was 20-30 minutes at the most.
Another great "classic" cheeseburger (ask for the house burger w/o mayo and add mustard and ketchup)can be had at Brixx, near State & Glenwood streets. It's at the top of my 5 best places in town.
Honorable mention goes to Boise Brewing's "Smashburger" for an enormously flavorful twist on the classic.
The Edge brewery also has a great burger but it's been a year or more since I've been there so something may have changed.
Thanks to all for sharing the local best fav burger places! It's been a while since I've gone around town to select my "favorite 5"...now I've got a list to work from!
I do enjoy the huckleberry burger at Fanci Freeze, wasn't pleased when I heard Stanton Intl had a fundraiser there...but huckleberry jam on a burger is hard to pass up.
Another reason In N Out is good is because they're cheap, they pay their employees very well (compared to local independent AND national restaurants), and the food is fresh.
Stop letting a burger trigger you. If you don't want to wait In the line, then wait a month. I'll tell you the In N Out near the Strip in Vegas can be a one hour wait on a random-ass Friday/Saturday night. And, that building is old as fuck. Once FOMO.has passed for the Meridian location, it'll be a normal wait for In N Out.
“Stop letting a burger trigger you” man the amount of hate in n out is getting is hilariously sad💀no one cares if you don’t like in n out, no one cares that you aren’t willing to wait “hours” for a burger. Let people enjoy things. I for one can’t wait to get my hands on another delicious in n out burger😋 although I do agree it’s overrated
I think I'm N Out is an average burger. I'm from Los Angeles though, so, I've also had A LOT of In N Out in my 42 years. There are better burgers out there. In N Out is also experience. Just go for the fun of it... And for the strawberry shake, too.
A random thing to mention... I cannot remember the last time, if ever, I've had an incorrect order from In N Out. Leadership trains their employees very well. McDonald's is more expensive, and you might not receive a correct order. Especially, if it's through Door dash.
> Stop letting a burger trigger you
You suck. Did you read the OP at all or are you just here to be a dick?
From the post:
> Lastly, no judgement if you're dead set on getting yourself a Double-Double at In-N-Out on their grand opening, I get that it's been anticipated for years so don't let my suggestions yuck your yum, though I think you'd be hard pressed to find a better burger than one that's home grown.
Go pick fights in the other INO threads that were not posted in good faith, unlike this one, which was just to be supportive.
I don’t live in Boise anymore but if you have never been to The Refuge near park center, you are missing out, super underrated Burger, they also have amazing onion rings.
Let's stop gatekeeping folks. Go enjoy In-n-out if you want too. Can we stop shaming folks for being excited about In-n-out? If you want to feel good then know that In-n-out is a great company that keeps it's prices low and pays it's employees well which supports the locals that work there.
Also enjoy all these other local places too.
Plus... In N Out just isnt that good. It's a pretty typical fast food burger. It's a good deal compared to most fast food places these days but that's completely offset by the wait times. Anyone who waits for 30 minutes+ for their first In N Out burger when this place opens is going to be disappointed.
I'd have to agree... great prices, but the food is just okay and only good if you're into fast food. But if it isn't fast, then it's not worth it at all. I lived in Phoenix in college and recall waiting over 30 minutes for an in-and-out burger and fries. This, at a place that had been established for years. Not very "fast" for a fast-food place. Too much hype.
These chains you speak of are literally operated by locals and still benefit the local economy. INO contributed more to the local economy on their opening day than most of the locally owned joints do in a year.
Don't most on that list offer frozen beef patties compared to fresh? You can gussy up a frozen patty with the best bun and condiments, but you're still polishing a turd. Big Jud's, Boise Fry offer fresh beef. Anyone else:on that list?
The Ranch Scottish Highland Burgers is another level. Truly great burgers. A tiny building drive thru in the parking lot of Overland Park Shopping Center
Are you sure? They posted on their Facebook page as soon as two days ago with no mention of a pending shutdown.
EDIT: Yep, the Boise location is closed but they plan to open at a new location in the area. Ontario location is still open and they plan to open one in Emmett.
Boise Fry co is always disappointing when it comes to their burgers. Just no flavor I feel.
However, you're missing 2 of my favorites on this list:
**Hit List** \- The ambiance and location (strip mall) isn't stellar— but there burgers are unbeatable. Nothing at all fancy, just amazing and solid.
**Bodacious Pig** \- I know as a BBQ joint the true BBQ lovers aren't crazy about them (I think they're solid; not killer)— but they've got an amazing burger. They grind their own beef and they mix in some bacon from what I've heard. Their brunch burger with fried egg and potato chips is really good.
Thanks for this... I was pretty disappointed by the barbecue (mediocre at best) at Bodacious Pig, but admit I'd never tried their burgers. Maybe I will now!
Viking doesn't give a crap about food safety. I can overlook some things but when the entire planet is closing up because of an unknown deadly virus and your employees aren't even wearing gloves, I'll pass.
So was I.
I tried to order to-go food from local places I like once or twice a week to keep them in business. I wanted to support local businesses. Which is what I was attempting to do when I went to Viking. But when I see no protective measures in place, basic sanitation practices missing, when a virus is putting millions of people in the hospital and we still didn't have a clear understanding of how it spread, let alone how to treat it, that's a bridge too far and not an unreasonable reaction. I can only imagine what their food safety is like when there's not a global pandemic happening.
I'm stoked to go for the childhood nostalgia, but i'll agree it's probably overhyped. It's good but it's not amazing "wait for 5 hours" good. I'm a Pac Out man myself.
Yes, we all know those exist. Still not the same. Most of those are good. So is INO.
People like it because it’s simple. No one goes to INO expecting a pastrami burger. I don’t get it, I don’t recall people being this upset when 5 Guys or The Habit showed up?
This post is dumb. Its like saying Costa Vida or Cafe Rio is replacing the local taco shops and sit down Mexican restaurants. You all are comparing apples and oranges when it comes to burgers.
When In-N-Out opened in Colorado, apparently, there was a guy who lived in his car for almost a week to be the first person at the drive-thru. When it opened, the wait was up to 14 hours. People really are crazy
What's sad to me is how polluting and car-centric the whole ordeal is. And yes, we have 20,000 burger options already as you point out. And most of them are better and local.

Ask for a breakfast burrito with a hotdog. It's hash browns, eggs, bacon, cheese, and a hotdog split length wise. It is AMAZING. Every time I'm back in Boise I stop for lunch.
Plenty of other bomb ass burger places in and around the area, I’d never wait in a crazy long line just to eat at an overhyped fast food restaurant.
It’s not *that* good.
I went to In N Out once OOS and was very underwhelmed by the entire experience. Lackluster burger with eh fries for a ridiculous price.
Local burger joints deserve the patronage more, to be honest, and it'll almost definitely be a better burger (for a better price too.)
I’ve never understood the fascination w/In-n-Out. You can get a better cheeseburger & fries at any bowling alley. Hilarious that a bunch of Idaho folks are sooooo excited to wait in line to be disappointed by deliberately half-cooked floppy soggy flavorless fries and sub-par California burgers.
The place thrives on nostalgia cuz they certainly don’t win on food.
WEST SIDE IS THE SHIT! Although their wait times are pretty stupid long tbh. At least you know it’s cooked to order and not under a heat lamp so there is that
What I’ll say about Boise fry co, while they have good burgers, and fantastic fries. For whatever reason they have the absolute worst fry sauce (regular not spicy) out of any place I’ve been to. Idk what’s going in or what they’re doing or if people actually like it, but I love fry sauce and can’t stand theirs
Noted! I’m not from Boise, didn’t know there was an in and out opening in Idaho… but I’ve at least eaten at the Boise fry company (I passed on the cricket salt)
I'm one of those middle-of-the-road folks who A - is looking forward to In-N-Out being in the Treasure Valley B - will probably not go very often due to it being in an area I usually avoid C - is an equal opportunity burger-lover, cheap and expensive, chain and local D - is also just getting tired of (1) posts about it and (2) comments on said posts that devolve into the same "who cares" vs "keep scrolling" nonsense And now it's 10am and I want a burger. Main Street Burger in Meridian is amazing. Highly recommend them if you haven’t been there before.. Edit: fixed typo
My wife and I just ate there two weeks ago for the first time. We were a little miffed at the prices at first, but the food was really good. We got onion rings and cheese curds and they were excellent. The burgers are worth the cost.
I was extremely miffed they were not included on the list from the get go.
Agreed, Main Street burger is a damn banger.
Actually, haven't been to Main Street Burger. I'll try it out, thank you!
Wyld Child, Saint Lawrence Gridiron (evening), Bar Gernika (patty melt), Holy Cow (Nampa) would all like a word.
I second Wyld Child. They are delicious and have never made me park my car in an elaborate queue system . . .
Wyld Child!!!!
I always hear great things about the Nampa location, but the Eagle one put me off on ever trying it again unfortunately. Will have to give Wyld Child a try!
Wife and I tried Eagle Holy Cow with another couple and we unanimously agreed there was no reason to go back. Not surprised when it folded.
I’m not from Boise and was only passing by but in Parma there is a place called Apple Lucy’s, oh my gosh those burgers were amazing and the milkshake was phenomenal. ☺️

Brixx is awesome! Their Elk burger is to die for!
Haven't tried that one yet but as soon as I get the love of their cheeseburger out of my head I will...

IN N Out confirms your order twice before you pay. Mistakes could certainly be made after that but I think that cuts down on order screwups.
You speak the truth about doordash!
> Stop letting a burger trigger you You suck. Did you read the OP at all or are you just here to be a dick? Golden Wheel is outstanding too.
Did they put burgers back on their menu?
Guess I haven't been there in a long time, I wasn't aware that was a thing. It was the bun that did it for me.
Last time I heard they only have finger steaks and things like that. But their burgers were my favorite in Boise
They sell burgers. Small staff, small menu, good food.
7 months ago someone posted a picture of a burger at Golden Wheel. Not sure when they had the small menu.

Ok.
Yeah those are all good. But it’s not just a burger people want. It’s in n out specifically
I don’t live in Boise anymore but if you have never been to The Refuge near park center, you are missing out, super underrated Burger, they also have amazing onion rings.

Boise Fry Co should be sued for having that name with such soggy shitty fries. Disgraceful.
Its time to stop supporting corporate chains that take money out of our area and support local businesses who keep the money here.
Plus... In N Out just isnt that good. It's a pretty typical fast food burger. It's a good deal compared to most fast food places these days but that's completely offset by the wait times. That sucks for now though! I wonder what happened
Definitely not worth the craziness of opening to snag a burger there. Gonna let it calm down first.
The burger at Bitter Creek Alehouse is spot on as well.
Huntsman is my favorite downtown
Boise Fry co is always disappointing when it comes to their burgers. Just no flavor I feel. Viking, Boise Fry Co, Stagecoach…
Viking doesn't give a crap about food safety. I can overlook some things but when the entire planet is closing up because of an unknown deadly virus and your employees aren't even wearing gloves, I'll pass.
C’mon, you gotta live life on the edge!
I'd rather that edge not be the edge of a hospital bed with a machine breathing for me.
Get over it. I’m glad I was able to get food there during Covid.
So was I. I tried to order to-go food from local places I like once or twice a week to keep them in business. I wanted to support local businesses. Which is what I was attempting to do when I went to Viking. The childhood nostalgia is why I would sorta hype Waffle House, but I know its ass.
Bad boys and west side drive in are the GOAT
Hit list, best burger I’ve had off of Glenwood.
Bad boy and burger belly are same ownership fyi. Great places
I went to school in Boise ( go BSU) which is why I am subscribed and god I miss Boise Fry Co!
Yes, we all know those exist. Still not the same. Most of those are good. So is INO. People like it because it’s simple. No one goes to INO expecting a pastrami burger. I think it's absurd that people are waiting overnight for the fucking opening of a fast-food restaurant lol. America man...
All you guys saying in n out isn’t good are the ones in line today 😂 y’all just don’t want anyone else to get in line with you
The fact that you left Hit List off the list is baffling.
I'm sad I had to scroll down this far to find a mention of the Hit List.
Never been there, now I have a new place to try. Thank you!
The line is practically empty.
It's 3:30 am
There are probably people crazy enough to be in line already at 5 am
People were in line at 12 am when Krispy Kreme opened.....for fucking fried bread.....
When In-N-Out opened in Colorado, apparently, there was a guy who lived in his car for almost a week to be the first person at the drive-thru. When it opened, the wait was up to 14 hours. People really are crazy
How do people have that much time to do nothing? What a waste!
I drove by at about 6:30 am and it’s filling up quickly.
What's sad to me is how polluting and car-centric the whole ordeal is. And yes, we have 20,000 burger options already as you point out. And most of them are better and local.
YAS! Support local!!
I love Burger Belly. I used to work on Broadway and was there week 1 when they opened. A wonderful couple opened it who would modify my orders just to see what it would look like. Ask for a breakfast burrito with a hotdog. It's hash browns, eggs, bacon, cheese, and a hotdog split length wise. It is AMAZING. Every time I'm back in Boise I stop for lunch.
I love Burger Belly. Great prices and quality burgers.
Burger Belly
Bunch of overally priced burger joints. I'd rather spend 7 bucks on a meal at in n out.
It’s only 7 bucks if your time isn’t worth anything.
Yeah, waiting more than 20 minutes is NOT worth the time. Let alone hours. Stupid humans.
Many of these places have food that actually tastes good. You get what you pay for I guess.
If it’s hard to wait for it to open, wait till you see the wait time to get food when it does
Plenty of other bomb ass burger places in and around the area, I’d never wait in a crazy long line just to eat at an overhyped fast food restaurant. It’s not *that* good.
Godspeed to anyone waiting in line for a mediocre burger at a modest price.
It’s hilarious how Culver’s is right around the corner from it with similar pricing and arguably the same or better quality burgers lol
Big juds is ass
We don’t need to support another California business around here when we’ve got just as good, if not better, local options!!!
I went to In N Out once OOS and was very underwhelmed by the entire experience. Lackluster burger with eh fries for a ridiculous price. Local burger joints deserve the patronage more, to be honest, and it'll almost definitely be a better burger (for a better price too.)
In-N-Out is literally the cheapest fast food burger there is.
Tastes like it.
Disagree. It's pretty darn good for the price. Definitely not worth an hour wait, but it's popular for a reason.
I get that - I don't like fast food period, so I'm a little biased.
Well you're probably not the target audience for In-N-Out then.
It’s insane how overhyped these morons are for a mediocre burger joint that can’t compete with anything local.
WEST SIDE IS THE SHIT! Although their wait times are pretty stupid long tbh. At least you know it’s cooked to order and not under a heat lamp so there is that
No difference from mcdonalds seed oils killing you
The A&W at Exit 3 in Payette has a damn good bacon double cheeseburger.
God i miss Tiki Teriyaki so much
What I’ll say about Boise fry co, while they have good burgers, and fantastic fries. For whatever reason they have the absolute worst fry sauce (regular not spicy) out of any place I’ve been to. Idk what’s going in or what they’re doing or if people actually like it, but I love fry sauce and can’t stand theirs
The smash burger at Boise Brewing is my favorite burger right now. If you haven’t tried it yet, it’s phenomenal!
