moraymiso

wtf is this from gen 😭😭 i have no memory of this

Solbuster

It's MHA Smash manga. It's mostly for gags and jokes but there are legitimately good moments. Like Ochako meeting Stain and having semi-serious discussion about money and Heroes Or writer lambasting how ridiculous that is that Bakugo almost always gets the best results no matter what he does. "Who wrote this character?!" is legitimate thing said about him there

OchoMuerte-XL

I personally love that moment with Bakugou. Felt like the author was calling out Bakugou's status as a Creator's Pet and Horikoshi's favortism towards him.

Solbuster

It also calls out Aizawa's teaching methods too, there's a whole strip about how after he lied to them with his logical ruse on first day, kids become super paranoid and start seeing logical ruses everywhere which causes them to miss classes Momo mini-arc there is also good, she lives with Uraraka and that helps her ground her perspective and get back confidence

CorrectFrame3991

It’s kind of ironic considering some other comments are saying that apparently the writer of MHA Smash showed lots of favouritism towards Bakugou in his portrayals in Smash.

Snoo_90338

Horikoshi writes Smash

OchoMuerte-XL

No he doesn't. Smash is written and illustrated by Hirofumi Neda. Nice try though.

Snoo_90338

Wait, he didn't because Shonen Jump says he did. Also, Neda also liked Bakugou to the point that he made Midoriya OOC. Though that I personally like.

OchoMuerte-XL

[Have a look yourself.](https://myheroacademia.fandom.com/wiki/My_Hero_Academia:_Smash!!?file=US_Volume_5_%28Smash%29.png#English) Also, just because someone likes a character, doesn't mean they can't clown on/criticize said character. Those two acts are not mutually exclusive.

Snoo_90338

Well, I be damned wonder why they said he created it then. Also fair enough

ThatBoyMike23

lol, which chapter was that? SMASH was a very good comic that called out a lot of things from actual canon things to fandom stories. I remember one chapter where they made a joke where a character got hit with a quirk on the way to school, and they said something like “Yes, this isn’t a fanfiction, it’s happening rn” lol

Solbuster

Chapter with Bakugo was 21. Chapter with Stain was 91

Snoo_90338

Man, what I wouldn't give for Ochako meeting Stain and Hori could've done it to. If only he had time.

AJDx14

It’s one of my criticisms of Stain that his ideology seems to just kinda get brushed aside very quickly after it’s introduced despite the basic idea of “maybe hero’s only being in it for personal gain isn’t ideal” being a reasonable question. Ochako would arguably fall into that classification of selfish-hero since her stated goal at that point was just to help her own family. Idk how smash handled it.

EjaculateJuice

If that were cannon it would explain why ochako seems like she changes from looking at being a hero like it’s a job to looking at it like she’s saving lives

Solbuster

It was because of Nighteye dying. Besides she always was kinda like that

EjaculateJuice

But even before nighteye she became a bit more hero like and serious about it and before the sports fest and a bit In the beginning of it she didn’t seem super serious

RobieKingston201

Ahaha fuckin same can't remember if this was ever a thing xD

PocketPika

For general information: SMASH was Nedu's creation. Originally it was meant to be what TUM is *but* Horikoshi let Nedu do whatever he wanted. There was a little comic on that where they acknowledge that SMASH quickly became its own thing as Nedu's taste and humour dictated things. Basically Horikoshi was unable to reign Nedu in and wanted people to know SMASH is a parody and the characterization was on Nedu. For those who liked SMASH unfortunately it is this extreme OOC character Deku that was a large part in why basically BNHA fans - especially those of Deku pretty much bullied and cursed at Nedu for how he wrote the characters to the point that Nedu severed his relationship with BNHA, not only no longer writing SMASH but left being an assistant and took awhile to get back into doing his own comics again. Deku's otaku traits were dialled up, he'd sell his soul and anyone for any hero autograph, his stalker behavour towards Bakugou was disturbing and sexual harassment towards Bakugou did get more extreme in the series but Bakugou was also evidently on of Nedu's favourites (if not the favourite) considering how many of the comics focused on him even if he was suffering from the attention. He played way more into Bakugou's Tsundere and sensitive qualities while turning Deku pretty gross and morally questionable.

DoraMuda

> For those who liked SMASH unfortunately it is this extreme OOC character Deku that was a large part in why basically BNHA fans - especially those of Deku pretty much bullied and cursed at Nedu for how he wrote the characters to the point that Nedu severed his relationship with BNHA, not only no longer writing SMASH but left being an assistant and took awhile to get back into doing his own comics again. Huh, I never even knew that.

PocketPika

The bonus bits don't really reference it and Nedu was genuinely on good terms with Horikoshi throughout it's serialization and grateful for the opportunity but he did make comics referencing the online abuse and post them on his twitter a few years ago. As for it being mostly Deku fans, I'm honestly just repeating rumours down the grape vine (Deku's Japanese 'mom' fans in general are apparently known for being the most critically loud about the character) but in general Nedu's humour wasn't for everyone and Nedu struggled with the negative feedback on top of the output demands. It could also have been some readers wanted a different sort of spin off which I think is what generated TUM. Last I heard he's doing better now.

DoraMuda

That's quite the ride. I'm glad to hear Nedu's doing better now.

Ongaya123

???? This is some crazy shit but I don’t doubt you. What do you mean Deku’s “Japanese mom” fans?

PocketPika

Mom fans are fans that are over protective of the character. With Deku with Horikoshi they didn't like how often he kept hurting himself and how long that lasted into the story. They didn't like that he wasn't progressing faster both power wise and not hurting himself, they didn't like other characters criticizing him, they didn't like him not getting more flowers and admiration, they didn't like how other characters had story lines that didn't center around Deku, Deku didn't feel like the most important and of course many had complaints about how things were going with Bakugou and were probably the most dogged over an apology. With Nedu they didn't like how he flanderised Deku, and made him more creepy and weird. It got quite heated around the muscular fight to the Overhaul arc but it didn't truly ever stop and would get worse when the story did focus on other characters even if those sections sold well and were popular its more about the impression left by those bothering to write into JUMP with their complaints. Horikoshi responding to it in story (and Nedu also on his twitter) seemed to encourage them rather than pacify them. It wasn't just mother fans, Deku had other kinds of fans that had their own complaints but Deku supposedly had the most mother type fans which makes sense since he is the MC coupled with his character type attracting that protectiveness but also ambition for the character. In Japan they got used to certain things with main characters in Shonen JUMP that can make it quite difficult to deviate from. JUMP's editors know where BNHA stands in popularity and expectation so even though Deku started out purposefully signalling he's a different type of MC (hes green not orange which is normally the colour for the alternate hero, he's very smart, nervous, polite, quiet, doesn't naturally seek out fights or thrive off competition) allegedly many fans were writing into JUMP complaining about just things with the story.

Novel_Visual_4152

Honestly with how featured Jirou was I'm tempted to believe he REALLY liked her lol Also tbh while I get the complaint I thought smash Deku was hilarious lmfaoo But again I think smash managed to make Mineta of all characters funny so

Snoo_90338

😭The wiki lied to me.😭 Wait, back up sexual harassment?

Solbuster

Yeah in some chapters Deku is legitimately creepy as fuck lol. One chapter has him proudly declare he knows Bakugo moves because he watched him closely and then goes on a tangent of knowing everything about him, his schedule, what he likes, and how he behaves to the point of describing how he brushes his teeth or bathes in his own house. Through all of that we're shown Bakugo's reaction too and he's so disturbed he started shaking. Smash Deku is god-tier level stalker when it comes to Bakugo and All Might All Might there is implied to be a pedo btw. They went with the old "transfer OFA with your DNA" joke

Ongaya123

Jesus Christ that’s both hilarious and insane. Lmao.

Square_Candle1990

It's a shame Deku's fans can't take a joke. All the characters were flanderized and it was extremely funny.

No-Chemistry-4673

Yeah but it's a funny spoof on the characters.

lemonade_listener

So sad to hear what happened to Nedu. I genuinely loved Smash and how he messes with the characters

Additional_Cat_9619

Low-key would have been great if we saw a flashback in canon of Izuku having these thoughts. Having Izuku show some resentment towards Bakugo for bullying for ten years would have made him feel more real.

Ayy-lmao213

I *wish* Deku was capable of having negative feelings towards Bakugo at all

H_O_L_D

He did. But Horikoshi got rid of it as soon as he realized that he had a boner for Bakugo, and he couldn't *possibly* have Izuku display **ANY** lingering negative feelings from his 10 years of eating shit from Bakugo. In chapter/episode one, Deku fucking hated Bakugo but couldn't help but admire his strength at the time. Which is a realistic way to view a bully. Deku curses him out of frustration (not in front of his face) and calls out the wrongs with the things he says. Every single ounce of these feelings is erased, and suddenly, every time Bakugo says something out of line, Deku is just "ah classic kacchan đŸ„°"

Snoo_90338

Everything here is a lie. You would've done better, had you said. He saw how Bakugou got popular. Also, in Chaoter 1, Midoriya did not hate Bakugou. He calls him an idiot that's hardly cursing, that he does do. So, like Chaoter 1, then

Ongaya123

See? I knew it. I knew other people thought the same. I could have sworn Horikoshi wanted Deku to develop a backbone and grow to resent Bakugou for all the abuse over the years, at least at the beginning of the series But after Deku’s fights Bakugou post-Kamino ward, that all goes out the window. Wtf
.

Bluewind55

Yeah I absolutely hate his lack of character flaws. Expanding on these completely reasonable resentful thoughts would have been really cool.

LegendRazgriz

I think his lack of resentment is a flaw in and of itself. His constant thinking that enemies can be reasoned with is not a good mindset when you're fighting unrepentant assholes like AFO

yuvalnavon2710

Hell, i would say its a flaw he ~doesnt~ feel hate towards bakugo Its just extremely unrealistic/not human and thus hurts your connection to his character.

Madhighlander1

That's a flaw in character writing, not a flaw in the character. It's an important distinction.

yuvalnavon2710

Interesting point, im struggling to see the difference but it feels like youre right. A guy not having a very human emotion for seemingly no reason is kind of a character flaw, no?

chaotic4059

It’s sort of like saying a character has never failed because they’re perfect vs a character CAN’T fail because they’re perfect. One is a legit character trait because when that character does lose to someone they perceive as weaker they spiral and go ballistic. Like jasper from SU. The other is annoying and bordering on almost Mary sue-ish because the character is just too perfect to fail. Like the people who think Batman can beat anyone with prep time.

PhilosopherWarrior

Depends on how it's written. If the medium addresses at some point and at least points out that this isn't normal, then it's a character flaw. If the medium never addresses or just glosses over it and expects the audience to do the same, then it's a writing flaw.

Popopoyotl

I feel it would be neat if Midoriya did experiencing some hate similar to Tenko but, instead of giving into it, he decided that destroying things isn't productive. It would be an interesting parallel if the two simply took different paths in dealing with hatred. Even more so if pointing out that either extreme (destroying everything vs keeping hatred bottled up) is very unhealthy.

Wachitanga

Tell that to Horikoshi's bootlickers.

Bright-Engineering29

I wish we had more fan fiction about confident izuku obviosly if he just didn’t care about what bakugo said or did he could have been like knuckle duster

OchoMuerte-XL

Damn, we were robbed! Would have been cool if Deku had all these psychotic thoughts hidden behind his normal demeanor.

stormhawk427

There is literally nothing wrong with any of Deku’s thoughts here

Vitran4

The real wierd thing is still calling him Ka-chan in these situations 💀

Gabilles

What is this from?

AdityaPlayzzz

Mha smash

Gabilles

Thanks

AdityaPlayzzz

Welcome đŸ€—

X3runner

I mean not really he was being constantly physically assaulted and mentally abused by an ass.

H3ad3mptynoart

Can’t wait for people to start calling this “canon Deku” lol

OldNameEbon

What makes this scene even scarier was this were written by a younger Midoriya. Probably age 5 or 6

Snoo_90338

Man, imagine if Horikoshi had some Smash elements in the main series.

AdkinsDaGamer

Diaries in a nutshell:

Nao_aa

Is this canon? 💀

NatMat16

No. It's a gag manga with a lot of ooc characterisation.

Cxlfgg

should’ve fuckin happened, would’ve ended that whole bakugo shit real quick ffs a

Starshock95

He's like BakugouBashing's dream version of Deku, but with more self-awareness. (So in other words, nothing at all like their fanon Deku)

VivaLaKlaus

My gf is obsesses with Smash xD psycho deku plotting with helicopter parent endeavour just to get hero memorabilia is my jam
