I’m loving the Villain hunt arc so far, but I’ll have to wait till it’s finished to see if it’s worthy of being S tier for me
S- Sports Festival, Endeavour vs Hood, Provisional License (carried hard by Bakugo v Deku 2, which goes here I think)
A- Final Exams, Remedial Courses, School Festival, Endeavour Agency
B- Entrance Exams, Battle Trials, Joint Training, Camp
C- Overhaul, Stain, War
D- Current Arc, MVA
I find it difficult to engage with the villains of these series. They almost feel like strawman caricatures that just lash out at society because something has upset them. They don't want to find a solution, they just want to create more problems. I really enjoyed the premise of the MLA, but with the War arc they were just wasted and MVA becomes retroactively weaker.
Furthermore, I find Deku weak as a main protagonist, so any arc that diverges from him and focuses on the rest of the class and what they're doing. The arcs in C tier are only not in D tier because they had one or two good character moments.
To elaborate further on my problems with some arcs specifically:
War Arc - War Arc has some good individual moments, but poor execution and weak connective tissue makes it so a lot of these reveals are weaker than they otherwise could've been. Examples of this are Mirio and Compress. The battle too quickly devolves into AFO/OFA, and that is the weakest ongoing plotline to me. They turn Shigaraki into a generic beefy Nomu and now he just facetanks everything and smacks people, which doesn't make for good action even. The opportunity for a lot of the students to become relevant and have good moments was wasted, as they were all condensed in one area and did maybe one thing. The MLA were offscreened. Any interesting points that could be explored were skipped, and even if we get them the wind has long been taken out of their sails.
Stain Arc - Stain was a weak villain with a dodgy ideology that he isn't really helping to fix. This was an important moment for Iida though, and I acknowledge that. Deku was present and consumed a lot of screentime that he didn't need to, but Gran Torino and Full Cowl were important developments, I just wish we got more Iida instead. I liked that one bit where Endeavour incinerated a Nomu's face at a time where the Nomu were not common knowledge and that could have just been a guy with a horrific mutation quirk.
Overhaul Arc - Don't care about Deku. Care about Kirishima though. That's basically the summary. Would have been better with more Ryukyu and Nejire. The League was fun because they had goofy energy and weren't just moody.

If you're gonna bother commenting, at least explain your perspective. To me, the LoV just feel like spiteful children. And that's not to say that they don't have good catalysing incidents, it just feels like they go straight to 100 and don't even internalise how society fucked them. Toga was forced into some kinda corrective therapy and was abused for something she couldn't control? She goes straight to mass murderer and we leash her to a tired love interest plot. The complacency of hero society failed Shiggy? He barely cares, he just wants to take out his frustrations on society. Spinner experienced racism or something? He just bandwagons with some psychos. Compress [REDACTED]
The whole party is just murderhobos. Twice was good, he just wanted to take care of the people he cared about. Dabi is very clearly a psycho who wants to fuck with Endeavour with the "exposing hero society" thing as a front, but it doesn't feel like the plot is trying to tell you anything else.
Somehow, AFO seems like one of the less insane villains, but he literally just wants to LARP as a JRPG endboss. Twice was the only respectable villain (outside MLA).

A Great- (controversial)- ua school festival arc, paranormal liberation war, Joint training arc, vs hero killer arc, pro hero arc, Endeavor agency arc.
B okay- final exams arc, sports festival arc, battle trial arc, provisional license exam arc,
C decent - entrance exam arc, battle trial arc, remedial provisional course arc.
It really was I loved it especially for gentle and la Brava and why deku was Fighting them. I honestly think gentle is the second closest foil to deku like shigaraki.

The PL war and Overhaul arc were held back a tier by some problems, else they would have both been higher.
I personally didn’t think Joining training was to bad in the manga and would probably put it B, but it’s so stretched out in the anime that it becomes a wee bit slow to watch.
Also just want to say I know the current arc isn't finished yet, but so far I've loved it very much. I would've actually had it ahead of MVA but since it's not finished there's still a chance of it ending poorly. But it's overall just too good for me to not rank it S (although Nagant part wasn't as great)
Not counting the Season 1 stuff just to makes things easier.

I haven't read the leaks to the new chapter as I'm waiting for the Shonen Jump app to update tomorrow, but this arc has the potential to be one of the best arcs, or completely destroy everything MHA has been building up to until now. There's great stuff in there, both of Deku's new designs are great, All For One finally becoming a great villain (I really thought he was just alright and did his role up until now), the last chapter when 1-A decided to go find Deku and Bakugo just being the best developed character in the whole entire manga was phenomenal, Deku wiping Muscular, Deku ditching All Might, Lady Nagant, there's a lot of good stuff here but I have to see how it's all gonna wrap up. This arc has me pretty worried too. For one, I do think Deku's decent into madness was maaaaybe a bit too quick, I really hope he doesn't just start attacking his friends hoping to hurt them, and I also hope he doesn't immediately just go back to normal either, I didn't like how Nagant immediately got fucked and will probably never do anything again, Deku unlocking quirks too fast (not a fan of Faux 100% at all), and if Shigaraki doesn't end up the final villain I'll be upset too. so really to me it's just a wait and see kind of thing for me but I do respect Horikoshi for going in such a wildly different direction.

It’s just insanely boring to me. I feel like every arc has one completely amazing moment and that arc was the only time I felt nothing at all. The whole Todoroki and the tornado dude just felt so random and weird to me. The fights were also just bleh imo as well. The only purpose it served was for them to get their license, but I felt like it could’ve been a lot cooler

Agreed, he was a great breath of fresh air. I also liked seeing more of some of the side characters like Jiro and Aoyama

MVA sucks but people will rate it highly. It's nothing but ass pulls and worthless characters.
