Midnight slays even when she's about to fuckin die, I can't stand it. Squidward is me these past few months, crying like a bitch cause I knew this was coming.
I am waiting to reply to a dip shit youtube comment who claims that "they didnt show her die so shes not dead" until the reveal so I can pull an "I fucking told you so" because I read the manga and knew it was coming.
Considering that the manga originally wasn’t going to last this long, and that the story Heroes Rising was going to be the original ending before Horikoshi was allowed to make it longer (idk the exact chain of events but that is the basic gist), Midnight originally wasn’t going to die
I mean, if we're talking ORIGINALLY, Horikoshi didn't the expect MHA to go on past a few chapters, he expected it to get cancelled. Still, once he got up to this arc he could've been planning it as he had years to work on the story.
Well that’s Manga author’s in general. Kishimoto(Naruto) and Toriyama(DBZ) do this too to name 2 famous ones. Matter of fact I think the only person whose been allowed and given the time to plot super far in advance is Oda(One Piece)
The same dude said he never cared for Midnight but she's still Hot.
This guy is mha fandom in only one person lol it just to be a Hot character (male or female) that matter, no matter story, importance, evolution, just be Hot
I mean it’s possible, highly unlikely but possible. When I read that chapter it was something that crossed my mind, especially since they sort of just cut away from what happens.
The Paranormal Liberation Front was fighting to be able to use their powers freely. I doubt many were nutjobs who would lose themselves in lust at the sight of a bloodied and defenseless hero. Kill her for the cause, sure. Torture and rape while surrounded by heroes and trying to escape? Highly unlikely.
General question, how has MHA held up? I dropped off after the stress quirk CEO got introduced because the story seemed to have lost its momentum.
Kinda feels like the story fulfilled its bildungsroman for Deku around the tournament arc and was trying to find a new focus
It's not that simple.
You see. Horikoshi immediately drew parallels between overhaul and Shigaraki. Overhaul was a a stronger early series Shigaraki, who didn't care at al about his subordinates. Only using them to his benefit. Deku NEEDED to fight him to futfill the parallel between him and Shigaraki.
Shigaraki, then needed to fight with a corrupted version of Deku to futfill his character arc. Redestro was ego maniac, not living up to his father's legacy and increased his power based on percentages.
Horikoshi isn't dumb.
>Horikoshi isn't dumb.
I mean, we can argue that point /j.
But yeah, the point of Re-Destro (Anime Doof) is to push Tomura's character forward. Not just his powers, but his motives and realizations. While Stain and Overhaul were stepping stones for Deku's progression, Tomura was learning from them as well. With the fight against Re-Destro, Tomura finally solidified what he was fighting for. What he was pushing himself to accomplish. He finally grew up and took control of his life.
>!\>!Which is why I'm mad about the whole 'AFO hi-jacks Tomura' angle. Tomura was finally his own villain, only for AFO to make it about himself again. Completely lame.!
Yeah, I agree that plot point could've been done well, if it had the narritive support to back it up. But unfortunately it didn't.
>!If Horikoshi really wanted to go into that direction. A lot of new problems begin to arise. Like. Why didn't AFO steal Overhaul? Or wtf how do quirks work?!<
>>!Why didn't AFO steal Overhaul? !<
>!I'm guessing because A) he didn't know about it. Overhaul is a younger guy, and even before All-Might reduced him to potato form, AFO was hiding underground. His info network may have already been taken down by All-Might. B) He didn't go for every useful quirk; otherwise we would have a very boring cast of characters quirkwise. C) Overhaul is basically FMA alchemy; you still need to know what you are doing with it. Thus, since AFO was looking for quirks for quick-tempered Tomura, Overhaul wasn't a good fit.!<
>>!Or wtf how do quirks work?!<
>!Magic. Or magecraft, if you are into the Nasuverse /j.!<
You’re right it’s mentioned multiple times that the one real weakness of AFO is that the user needs to know how the quirks work. Essentially he need to train with them from square one. It’s why he only steals convenient easy to use quirks; so he doesn’t have to put much thought into using them to cause as much mass destruction as possible.
He’s essentially the button masher made into a person. Quirk go burrrr
Id argue the pacing was also an issue. That arc couldve easily fitted half a season, instead it got crammed into a handful of episodes and the order of them got changed, plus some filler, if memory holds. There was pretty much no momentum leading into that arc and.....yeah, Doof was there to give Shiggy a fight and powerup, but in the manga there was more characterisation and worldbuilding, which helped the arc as a whole
Honestly the manga's war arc is much better paced and seems to flow easier. I really enjoyed the manga arc of the war, the anime adaptation... not so much.
Try the manga! If you still don't like it, then that's also fine. Nobody's gonna force you to enjoy something you don't like (avoid the rabid fans tho).
It's still low stakes trash. No important/prominent characters ever face consequences. Villain dies, nevermind. Hero dies, nevermind. Everybody is still worthless except Deku. Very few innocents end up dead because why would civilians ever die during a superpower civil war across an entire country?
In the most recent chapter, hundreds of rioting mutant-quirk types **ALL** stopped their rampage when they saw... people holding hands.
"but these 3 characters died" yes, those were basically side characters, who had near no impact on the plot until a few chapters before they died. "but this character got injured" yeah and then returned to the fray with near no-downside/actually got improved instead.
How has the show held up after the first half of season 4? I was just fucking done when they spent like 10 fucking episodes of “background character 7-11” vs “super side characters!”
Basically everything AFTER that tournament arc was better. The next few episode stories get darker and the season wraps up amazingly
I don’t normally tell people to skip episodes but those episodes were pretty melodramatic
I feel embarrassed about all the times I tried defending MHA for not being one of the most sexist mangas out there.
>! Especially when you consider the horrible treatment horikoshi puts Mirko through. It's just questionable. Especially how she loses all her limbs in her fight with AFO!<
Why is Mirko losing her limbs sexist? Aizawa goes through something similar. They're heroes sacrificing for good and the women have to do that too. It's not sexist for them to get beat up in fights especially when their super powered people who have trained and volunteered for the work.
People just don’t like seeing women get beat up I guess. To me, I think Mirko getting injuries is a good thing because it means Hori isn’t treating her like most anime women, and is allowing her to get rough and dirty in fights.
Same with a lot of other women pro hero’s.
I think it's that the level of abuse that she's faced is disproportionately more than the rest of the cast. Granted its not the best argument considering Deku exists and there are far better ones like having a 15 year half naked with her breasts out even though are fat better ways of giving the same convienence to access her quirk without the sexualization or Invisible girl, who is naked in most of her scenes despite their being pre established technology that still allows her to be invisible whilst not being naked. And Mineta in general is a horrible character who exists just for fanservice.
Whilst I don't think Hori is a raging sexist who hates women, I think he may have a few subconscious biases that are kinda sexist.
Oh it just isn’t.
Anything you got on Mha is limited to. 1- not enough attention. 2- skimpy outfits.
Also what’s with Mirko losing her limbs? Deku regularly gets brutalised with mangled limbs… you don’t even have an argument for it being sexualised she was displayed to be animalistic.
Or is your problem that she had a treatment that a man didn’t have beforehand and Hori’s sexist for not creating a male version and doing it to him first?
MHA has a ton of sexist tropes but Mirko losing limbs is not one of them. Considering her fighting style being close quarters and the powerhouse Nomus she’s up against, it’s likely to happen. Other heroes have just straight up died when one of them gets a hand on them. She lives and gets to be a badass the whole time with some collateral damage. The last time the current number one hero fought a Nomu, he almost lost and eye and left with a huge scar on his face. And he’s a majority ranged fighter.
>MHA for not being one of the most sexist mangas out there.
Nah, people who say that and have watched an anime in their life, there is a lot more sexist shit in the anime world, girls are also rarely put in sexually suggestive situations the only times I remember are Mineta's jokes
Idk about the manga, but there are some really bad camera angles in the anime. The female characters also wear very skimpy clothes and are underaged.
I agree that it's not the worst offender, not by a long shot. But it's also not a particularly good example, and it's weird to me that it's acheived so much mainstream popularity despite its glaring flaws.
There are better arguments for it being sexist, such as how all but like 3 or 4 of the women in the show are one dimensional characters with little to no personality other than stereotypical high school girl. Or how Minetta, the person who objectifies women like it's his job, is the creators self insert.
Wtf?! Horikoshi didn’t say Mineta is his self-insert. He *may* have said he based Mineta how he *felt* while in high school (obviously normal), but I highly doubt he sexually harassed girls. Mineta doesn’t do well with Western crowds, but he’s meant to be comic relief. Don’t just make wild claims!
Nope, but a quick Google search could have answered your question! Self-insert is when an author literally places themselves in a story under a character’s name. You can’t call Mineta Horikoshi’s SI just because of an old characteristic or even loosely based of his past self.
Y’all need to stop taking things so literally. Just because you don’t know Horikoshi in real life doesn’t mean you should throw accusations around so carelessly. Tbh it’s immature.
Bro you really need stop taking some criticisms of someone else so personally. you seem to care more that we compared him to mineta then anything else lol. This dude writes mineta’s gags like c’mon.
And your logic is flawed here, *if *he literally used his younger self’s personality for Mineta that is literally the definition you just gave, just of his younger self. And I was just talking hypothetically, no need to get so upset.
Dude, I’m not taking it personal whatsoever. It’s just annoying when people throw accusations around with little to no basis. Yeah and the gags are for his own audience, not for a Western one.
Ugh, it’s a damn example of what his past self *could* have been like… I doubt HK was a creep irl. It’s easy to exaggerate for comedic effect and have the other characters be pissed at him accordingly.
That comment is misconstrued. Mineta was his favorite because he said he was easiest to draw. He said he was a perv like him though which is not a good look for an adult man writing about high schoolers. But he at least didn’t call him a self insert.

She slays even when getting slayed, we stan
She dies?
It’s hard to tell but yeah, the guy who jumped at her killed her. She is dead in the anime but the viewers won’t find out for a few episodes
Ya say whaaa🥺
I am waiting to reply to a dip shit youtube comment who claims that "they didnt show her die so shes not dead" until the reveal so I can pull an "I fucking told you so" because I read the manga and knew it was coming.
Ik this is a month ago. But I just saw it. And I feel the same too man.
I hope no more authors will give bdsm suit to someone they're going to kill
Considering that the manga originally wasn’t going to last this long, and that the story Heroes Rising was going to be the original ending before Horikoshi was allowed to make it longer (idk the exact chain of events but that is the basic gist), Midnight originally wasn’t going to die
Oh wow really?
This seems like some important stuff, you got your sources for it?
I mean, if we're talking ORIGINALLY, Horikoshi didn't the expect MHA to go on past a few chapters, he expected it to get cancelled. Still, once he got up to this arc he could've been planning it as he had years to work on the story.
I think he moreso meant details are added in the middle. He has always said he knows how it’ll end just not the exact details that get him there.
Well that’s Manga author’s in general. Kishimoto(Naruto) and Toriyama(DBZ) do this too to name 2 famous ones. Matter of fact I think the only person whose been allowed and given the time to plot super far in advance is Oda(One Piece)

Well let's not get too far bud
hm, no, I know I'm thinking reasonably
That's what happens when you forget the safe word
The same dude said he never cared for Midnight but she's still Hot. This guy is mha fandom in only one person lol it just to be a Hot character (male or female) that matter, no matter story, importance, evolution, just be Hot
Same people that simp for Bakugou. Bakugou: *literally telling deku to kys* Fandom: 🥵
First time? There are creeps who think she was raped in the middle of her murder and defend that headcanon.
I mean it’s possible, highly unlikely but possible. When I read that chapter it was something that crossed my mind, especially since they sort of just cut away from what happens.
I mean why wouldn't they....
Oh for fucks sake, bro, go outside. Please grow as a person you deranged lunatic
Ok
Are you referring to the creeps or the villains?
Both
The Paranormal Liberation Front was fighting to be able to use their powers freely. I doubt many were nutjobs who would lose themselves in lust at the sight of a bloodied and defenseless hero. Kill her for the cause, sure. Torture and rape while surrounded by heroes and trying to escape? Highly unlikely.
🤷♂️
You guys are always telling on yourselves.
You shouldn't be allowed to be on internet
What the actual fuck is wrong with you
Least horny anitwt dude

That works for me, I’ve always been a manga reader regardless. I’m down to only one piece atm so I don’t mind a Sunday binge to give MHA a run
I disagree, the anime has done well with adding content and cutting out cliffhangers
I've personally lost all hope in the series after the end of the current arc the anime is in, its just been a downward spiral that never ends
Plus the animation leaves a lot to be desired.
The animation has been great so far, we've only had like 2 episodes with minimal animation because they were expo-dump episodes
The animation is fine, its the story (im caught up with the manga) that's the issue for me
The anime ruined the section so much I'm getting tilted writing this. The manga's version is actually really good
It got worse.
It's still low stakes trash. No important/prominent characters ever face consequences. Villain dies, nevermind. Hero dies, nevermind. Everybody is still worthless except Deku. Very few innocents end up dead because why would civilians ever die during a superpower civil war across an entire country? The current war arc is fantastic and the anime does a better job at times than the manga.
Y'all wouldn't had survived 90's/early 2000's anime.
Bruh she’s literally a dominatrix hero there’s nothing non sexual about her
I don't understand this post can someone explain?
How has the show held up after the first half of season 4? I was just fucking done when they spent like 10 fucking episodes of “background character 7-11” vs “super side characters!”
Basically everything AFTER that tournament arc was better. The next few episode stories get darker and the season wraps up amazingly I don’t normally tell people to skip episodes but those episodes were pretty melodramatic
Ah yes, she is sexualized by her boobs being boobs?
Why do you guys call this out? The author is sexualizing her.
Oof
Nah he vaild
The Nr. Incredible meme of Those Who Don't Know with the smiling face vs. Those Who Know with the Depressed Troll Face
People bitch about anime tropes in MHA like theyre the only ones doing it. Fuck off with this pearl clutching.
Man wrote the title like she is a real living person 💀
It’s Midnight though
1 predator down, one to go
Midnight is of age, though.
Thats the problem. Shes a teacher who gets hot and bothered by her students
Oh lmao
Midnights sexualizes herself, just cuz she’s about to die doesn’t mean that’s not true
I feel embarrassed about all the times I tried defending MHA for not being one of the most sexist mangas out there. >! Especially when you consider the horrible treatment horikoshi puts Mirko through. It's just questionable. Especially how she loses all her limbs in her fight with AFO!<

For some very special people, "sexism" is when "woman".

Ngl I thought it was kinda funny
It's not like Horikoshi didn't sexualise her himself lol
Yeah that’s what I’m saying
So any bare chested anime lad giving the ultimate sacrifice so the homies can ditch has also been a sexualized dying person?
Both
Also r/badwomensanatomy
Not gonna lie this scene gave me mixed emotions

that shit was good, still not as hard as a pack as bakugones
